Biography
Black Books are a 5-piece from Austin, Texas who make an atmospheric mix of dreamy, visionary pop and epic southern rock. Formed in 2010, Blacks Books heart-wrenching, epic, sun-soaked melodies have already turned heads. Many compare the lush orchestral qualities of Black Books to contemporaries such as My Morning Jacket, Grandaddy, and The Flaming Lips.
Black Books have been featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered and EarthSky, KUT Texas Music Matters, Daytrotter, and BBC’s Mark Radcliffe Show. In addition, their song, ‘The Big Idea’, was used for the TV Show Californication as well as for The Moving Picture Company’s (Harry Potter, The Watchmen, Pirates of The Caribbean) Industry Film Reel. Most recently, their music video for ‘Favorite Place’ racked up over 100,000 views in three weeks after being featured in The Huffington Post, Spinner, Buzzfeed, and Vimeo Staff Picks.
After one hundred live shows around Texas and two solid showings as official SXSW acts, Black Books are set to embark on their first overseas tour, including a two-night stand opening for The Flaming Lips at London’s famed Roundhouse this May. When they return, Black Books are slated to film The Good Music Club series at Austin’s North Door before heading out on a tour of The USA.
