Artist Information

Biography

A born musician and performer, Tanya Brody understands what it is to tell a story through song and the art of giving life to the words and music that flow from her lips and fingertips. Her traditional repertoire is vast and covers several centuries of traditional Celtic and British folk music. Her original music ranges from songs that sound like they were written hundreds of years ago, to music that sounds like it should be performed by the likes of Taylor Swift and Loreena McKennitt. Her voice has been compared to the latter, as well as to Mary Black, and a member of the heavenly chorus. She accompanies herself on the harp and has played all over the country as a solo performer and as a member of several other groups.

A Harper/Singer/Songwriter from Minneapolis, MN. Tanya has been performing professionally since the age of 6, and playing music either for fun or as a profession for most of her life. She as performed all over the world, either as a solo performer or as a member of various other groups during her long musical career. She plays multiple instruments, the primary being the harp, and sings “with the voice of an angel” according to her many fans. She performs both traditional and original music and has 9 albums to her name, 4 of which are solo, the rest are with either The Muses, her professional touring Celtic band, or with Sailor’s Dream, a 3 woman a cappella group.

Tanya has returned to her roots as a solo performer and to her childhood home of Minnesota, bringing her talent and love of music back to this appreciative audience. People around the world have heard her music, on the radio and via the internet. She hopes to be able to continue creating beautiful sounds to share with all who will listen.

Setlist

My repertoire includes songs from Britain, Ireland and Scotland, as well as the US and Australia as well as original pieces. Depending on the setting and requests of the presenter, I'll pull from various different traditions and styles.

I do have a holiday repertoire for the winter holiday season.

I can play up to 3 hours without repeating a song from my standard repertoire.

I perform concert style and as background music for events.

Specific educational programs include:
“Songs of the Sea”; An hour full of sea shanties and sea lore. Focusing primarily on the lives of sailors aboard the whaling and shipping vessels but also drifting into the realms of legend and love.
“The Ballad as History”; The true history was written by the people. Many of the best ballads tell the story more accurately (and poetically) than any historian could ever contrive. We explore actual historical events and how they were recorded in song.
“Legends and Fairy Tales”; A magical path leads us through the realm of
sirens, knights, witches and fair folk. Weaving tales of love, betrayal, help and healing, even drunken rides through the haunted woods. Enchantment awaits.
"Love Songs Through the Ages"; Tracing the path of the love song from the middle ages through to modern times, using both traditional and original songs.

Upon advanced request, I can write a song for your event or occasion. Please see http://www.tanyabrody.com/CustomSongs/customwrittensong.htm for more information.
