At the ripe age of 20, Cambridge, MA native and Boston University Student, J. Lye is one of the newest rappers to make waves in the Boston underground music scene. Mentored by Boston rapper, Kabir Sen, J. Lye began writing at just 13, and by the age of 15 was recording his own music. J. Lye was recently featured in the ‘Unsigned Sundays’ section of popular music blog, YouHeardThatNew.com.
While J. Lye’s debut mixtape, “Before the World Was Mine,“ garnered a great deal of feedback following its May 2009 release, his rapidly growing fan base is already anticipating his second, due out in early 2011. His live performances and viral internet presence have been turning heads everywhere. “Lyes,” the most recent single and video released from his upcoming album, “Compete Until Success,” generated over 10,000 views on YouTube in only the first few days it was posted. Music blog, PaperMashMusic.com recently discovered “Lyes”, prompting a review of J. Lye stating that they “had stumbled onto a gem.”
J. Lye currently performs with a DJ, and sometimes adds a new element to his music by performing with a live band. He spends his free time working on his writing, recording music videos, and religiously promoting his music and interacting with his fans.
