Biography
Since forming on the West side of Montreal in 2006, Line Spectra’s indie-rock grooves and addictive hooks have warmed the hearts of many. Kathy Perlini, Diana Lalla and Vanessa Morelli make up the power trio, who burst onto the Montreal music scene with their first, independently released, self-titled EP in 2007. The band is as known for their melodic, energetic, and eclectic songs as their infectious bubbly personalities.
After the release of the self-titled EP, Line Spectra went to work on the full-length follow-up, “Maps & Directions”. The album, released January 2010, comes at a pivotal point in the life of the band; writing and recording was balanced with graduating from university and working to fund the album. “Maps & Directions”, written and produced by Line Spectra, was recorded and mixed at Mountain City Studio by Juno Award winner, Joseph Donovan (Sam Roberts, The Dears) and mastered at Lacquer Channel by Noah Mintz (Broken Social Scene, Stars).
The band recently released a video for their song City Stars and its French counterpart, Les Etoiles. The songs are a tribute to Montreal - the wonderful city the band lives in. City Stars was included in an episode of Much Music’s DEGRASSI and is currently featured on the websites of Musique Plus and Fashion Magazine. The band was interviewed in CTV News' segment "What's On With Christine Long". They were also heard on CHOM 97.7's "Montreal Rocks With Jay Walker", as well as radio stations K-103.7 Kahnawake and 94.7 HITS FM's "Local Music Segment With Java Joel" and "Future Hits".
PRESS
"A refined debut by a trio of local ladies, [mixed] by Joseph Donovan, in the key of Britpop, Can-pop and, in its French finale saluting our city, a touch of Queb. " - Montreal Mirror
"Line Spectra’s hook laden take on indie-rock. They really shine on “Summer, Oh Wait!,” a much more upbeat number that will have you humming along. “City Stars,” sung both in English and in French, could double for a Montreal anthem since it captures the allure of the city so well. A lovely full-length release from homegrown talent. Hopefully they’ll continue on the right path and we’ll hear more from them soon. " - The Concordian
"These ladies wield their instruments with a fancy, sparkle and a twist. ... This band is just getting stronger and their sound is getting sharper. Line Spectra are on the rise and catching the wave along their journey is the best part." - The McGill Tribune
"Line Spectra is [a] Montreal band featuring three girls who provide a tasty dose of rock’n’roll. " - Dead Sexy Magazine
“Maps & Directions is definitely worth a listen. The songs are upbeat, and a breath of fresh air” – Panoram Italia Magazine
"It would be a mistake to call this a pass time for these girls." - The Suburban
