Biography

Ace Elijah journeys through many styles and genres from jazz to soul to blues and traditional pop. Ace's rich, baritone voice paired with his 18 years of experience on acoustic guitar adds to his powerful storytelling and completes the whole package for this 22 year old singer/songwriter. It's no surprise that people from all over the world are finding themselves captivated by his performances.

"When I'm on stage, I'm the happiest I'll ever be" says Ace, "I love recording, don't get me wrong, but every night I play a song it will be different then the last and it can be very subtle."

Ace spent his earlier years in London, where he received his first guitar at age 4. His taste for jazz developed much later when he moved to America and saw a movie with a soundtrack that intrigued him and sparked his interests. Contrary to what many fans believe, Ace was never trained in school for Jazz guitar, but he did spend many years studying with private teachers who guided him in the right direction.

"I will always considered myself a student, I recently started reading Nelson Riddle's book on arranging, and I know no matter how much knowledge I gain; there's always so much more out there."

Ace began playing publicly about 5 years ago, at age 17, beginning with open mikes and showcases in the Washington DC/Annapolis MD area. Within those 5 years and countless gigs and international tours not to mention three well-recieved full-length albums...Ace has really begun to make a name for himself.

Ace's newest release The Lonely Night's Are All That's Left (on MARVA Records) have been selling like hot cakes at shows and online since its launch in October. "I really think this album shows where I want to go with my songs, and how much I've developed from my previous two albums."

This is only the beginning for Ace Elijah. Expect, as many already do, to know by heart these memorable standards that Ace is writing. His songs have powerfully catchy melodies built on classic chord changes reminiscent of the great standards, and have been described as "well beyond his years". It's easy to forget that Ace is only 22 years of age. He has a long and very promising career ahead of him, and he is thrilled about the ride.

  There’s nothing more satisfying than watching an artist develop out of the artist development hell t...There’s nothing more satisfying than watching an artist develop out of the artist development hell that can be “open mike night.” Ace Elijah paid his dues crooning his unique brand of gentle, jazz-inflected pop to many a deaf ear in saloons around Annapolis and now that he’s old enough to legally imbibe himself, those beer-soaked gigs are beginning to pay dividends.

  Elijah plays finger style, but in more of a strumming style with a couple of things going on with hi...Elijah plays finger style, but in more of a strumming style with a couple of things going on with his right hand. He plays some interesting chords and the songs are toward the complex side of things. There is some originality here. His voice is a very rich strong presence throughout. I struggled to place a comparison, which is more common for me in folk than it is in rock. I was leaning to a sound like someone in between Bobby Darin and Fred Neil, perhaps. It just did not sound like the 1960s and there was a lounge jazz feel much of the time. He provided a good clue with a cover song written in the 1930s or 40s. He was coaxed into a few more songs by the crowd and ended on a high note...It was a lovely melody indeed.

Setlist

And I can perform 3.5 hours of jazz standards and other covers.
