Biography
Born in Cairo, Egypt in 1951 of Greek and Egyptian origins I travelled the world and witnessed endless stories of social cohesion and others of intolerance that affected me and that led me to interpreting them through music creation, novel writing and stage acting. To me, life is a stage... It is an ensemble of scenes; my music falls for all of them and wants to be heard in a film, on TV or in a documentary or even in a social dance and the skating rink!
Holder of BA in Mass Communication and Modern Drama; a 30 years scholar of music, music theory, harmony and piano and a composer of music for life themes following the master of modern drama: Constantine Stanislavski's artistic endeavour!
I am the writer of my own film-score, performer and home-producer. I studied music, harmony, theory, counterpoint, piano and composition with my second mother Signora Olympia Rossy, in Cairo, for 20 years. I immigrated to Canada in 1987 and have lived in it till this day.
My search for understanding our complex world of human conflict, has induced me to fall for each moment that touched me and to interpret it on sheet music and then to produce it in my studio. I keep sheet music in my pocket, always, ready to strike. I write on the train, in the subway or on coffee-breaks. Most of my productions have been scribbled on sheet music first. Please visit samples of my score in my web-site: www.filmmusicmontreal.com
Career-wise, I am a 34 years veteran of hotels and airlines roaming the industry in 5-stars hotels' from kitchen on to budgeting and to promoting international tourism. I am a curious contemplator of this interesting world of lovely and ugly people and a passionate interpreter of life revealing my thoughts through the creation of deep nostalgic and descriptive tunes, while performing on stage or by writing novels and short stories. My upcoming novel: The Jasmine Tree says it all. Please visit my web-site: www.filmmusicmontreal.com.
Egyptian by birth and love, Greek by origin and love, Canadian by choice and love; I have seen it all- travelling across Europe, Asia, Canada, USA and South America. Hence, my music is deep, passionate, genuine, rich and multi-shaded! It would fit films, TV, documentaries and advertising commercials. I owe my love for music, films and theatre to all those I met and who influenced me: My beloved music teacher Olympia Rossi, Olga and Xaven Katchadourian, piano concertists in Alexandria, Egypt and cousins of the master musician: Aram Katchadourian- creator of Ballet Spartacus, Helmut Rilling (Director of Bach Choir in Colone, Germany), Charles Aznavour, Betty Davies, David Niven. John Finch, Peter Finch, Dalida, Sir Richard Attenborough and others.
Several of my orchestral compositions are broadcasted on Montreal’s most prestigious classical radio station: Montreal Radio Classique CJPX 99.5, and are breaking through across the nation (Canada), USA, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Over the years, I was blessed by the opportunity to perform my own music and that of other baroque, classical and romantic masters on the piano for thousands of audiences, across the globe. I did the same with acting on live stage for major productions by Shakespeare, Chekhov, Ibsen, Pirandello, Miller and others. I was overwhelmed with tears each time my acting or music performances yielded, trophies, applause or press reviews. Please visit Testimonials on my web-site: www.filmmusicmontreal.com.
One of my most impressive and affectionate performances was the Requiem I wrote and performed for my baby brother Kamal Baladi who flew to God in August 1975 because of Encephalitis, only forty days after he departed. (Please listen to one of its movements Adagio-1 from Suite-1 in my MP3 recordings.) Or go to: http://c1.promofm.com/bands/5789/index.php and skip the tracks till Adagio-1 and read its review on the table of testimonials (second box) of my web-site: www.filmmusicmontreal.com .
My love for music and theatre has led me to obtaining various awards and testimonials, whether for piano and orchestra compositions, writing or for acting. Please visit 'about us' in my website: www.filmmusicmontreal.com
My music emerges from people I lived amongst around the globe, their stories, their lives, their hopes and aspirations. C'est la vie!
