Biography

Tyler Kealey is a songwriter who sings with a passion and conviction to match his emotionally driven lyrics. He uses a keen observation of human nature to create evocative melodies that shift from folk to straight ahead rock and roll, and has an uncanny knack of holding audiences in the palm of his hand.

Tyler has a natural ability to play anything he hears and is in high demand as a backup musician, including playing keyboards for Juno award-winning artist Charlie Major and recently touring with ZZ Top.

In May 2010, Tyler gained a whole new fan base while completing a successful 6 city, 11-show tour of China, playing in Guangzhou, Shenzen, Nanjing, Shanghai, Beijing, and Xi'an.

In addition, his songwriting is being discovered by the film and TV community. Three songs from Characters, his last CD, have been included in the Indie film, “Shaky Grounds.”

Past shows include opening for the Irish Descendents at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, and playing several double bills with Graham Greer of the Barstool Prophets in Ottawa, Barrhaven, and Cornwall.

Tyler was also the opening act for Metric at the 2011 Ottawa Bluesfest, and appeared nationwide on CTV news, as well as performing locally on 2 Ottawa morning shows.

He is the recent recipient of a FACTOR grant and is currently at work on a new album for release in 2012.

  July 29, 2009 - [P]laying at the Sheep in this week is Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies, who is ...July 29, 2009 - [P]laying at the Sheep in this week is Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies, who is opening for jazz/blues pianist Tyler Kealey from Low for his CD realease party July 31 for his album “Characters.” One might think it odd for such a big name to be opening for a local musician from Low, but according to Paul Symes of the Black Sheep Inn, Kealey will draw more fans than Hearn will.
  
  “Tyler will probably bring in about 100 people and Kevin about 40,” said Symes, adding that the combined crowd will be perfect for this type of show.
  
  Another issue with booking Hearn in a headliner slot was the fact that the booking request came in last minute and Symes’ programming was already booked solid.
  
  “What am I going to do, bump Tyler Kealey? It’s his CD release party,” said Symes.
  
  “It wouldn’t be fair.”
  
  Symes added that Hearn will be a perfect opener for Kealey as the two are a “mirror image” of each other, as they both play keys and have a similar sound.
