"David Feder is a phenomenal guitarist...and one of the best kept secrets..." (Carl Hiaasen)
Feder was born in 1958, in Niagara Falls, New York,
The Honeymoon Capital of the World. At age five, the family moved to rural Pennsylvania where David began learning piano and guitar. By age nine, influenced by his grandfather's humorous folk singing and the guitar playing of the local sheriff, he started writing and playing his own songs. In fact, most of the tunes he plays today are variations of those songs he wrote as a child. "I believe we all have one song inside of us and everything we write ends up being one version or another expression of that inner song."
"David Feder took the stage next -- a real world-class act. He did amazing things on an electrified Taylor classical guitar during an incredible set.... If his sheer musicianship wasn't dazzling enough, the stories he told about his compositions were funny, moving, and he really touched a lot of people with his music."
David is an avid martial artist, practicing for over thirty-five years. He says the discipline that comes from that practice helps focus mind and body to better express the music inside. Something about releasing the the need to win allows the music to develop and flow freely. And by viewing everyone as teachers, it becomes easier to open up emotionally and share artistically and spiritually. It's really about learning how to listen with the whole self.
David studied photographic engineering at RIT in Rochester, NY and Music performance at Buffalo State Teachers collage. Along with music, David has made his living as an electronic designer, studio engineer, and underwater camera repairman. For the last twenty years Feder has lived in the island paradise of the Florida Keys, a Mecca for artists of all mediums. The diversity of culture in the islands is embraced in all of Feders recordings.
In 1995, Feder signed a distribution deal with Lyra Recordings, boosting performances in the USA and Europe. His music is now heard on radio and films worldwide. Whether performing at large outdoor festivals or small intimate settings, David is equally at home solo or with his all star band.
"And the music is so clear and true that it makes you shiver"
David's first album, "Waiting for Sara," is soft romantic Latin Jazz while "The Reason Why," is pure funk and blues. The "Black Emerald" CD is Exciting "Hillbilly Flamenco," with players from Weather Report, The Bee Gees, The Miami Sound Machine, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, and other great players. David has also created, under the direction of his Wife Suzi-Sara, a Spa/relaxation CD titled "This Time In Between." And his soon-to-be-released album, "Last Tango in Paradise," is overflowing with the beautiful instrumental solo guitar work that audiences have come to love in his live performances.
Feder is a devoted husband and father. His wife Suzi and son Nyan take center stage in his life. Feders 11 year old son Nyan is an up and coming musician in his own right. With his son standing next to him, David Feder has come full circle in a life inexorably intertwined with music.
Nyan "Hurricane" Feder - Guitarist-Singer
Nyan Feder started playing guitar at the age of two. As the son of a performing musician, concert promoter and studio owner, he is no stranger to the music world. Growing up on and around performance venues, Nyan is at home on any stage. Fortunately, many great local and international musicians he has met over his few years in the industry, generously continue to share their knowledge with the thirsty and talented student.
Nyan's main instrument is the guitar, but he also plays piano, sax and experiments with several other musical instruments.
Nyan started out playing Spanish Fingerstyle Guitar with dad, but recently he's dove into the deep end of the blues styles of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robin Trower, Albert Collins, and Eric Clapton. Nyan started writing his own songs during hurricane Katrina and continues to write whenever the muse strikes him.
In the past few years Nyan has played concerts large and small, from the Florida Keys to Ixtapa, Mexico. He has already shared the stage with rock and roll legends including, Steven Tyler, DMC, Chuck Berry, Alto Sax (from Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band), George Terry (Eric Clapton's Guitarist and writer of Lay Down Sally), and Skunk Baxter from Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers.
Currently Nyan plays shows internationally with his father David and also with the Saltwater Blues Band.
Nyan has several music festivals under his belt, and continues to surprise and delight audiences wherever he performs. In addition to schooling, Nyan spends his non music time as a skateboard enthusiast and an all star little League baseball player.
You can expect much more music from this young talent in the years to come.

The Reason Why (Funk and Blues with the Saltwater Blues Band) "If you don't want to hit the dance floor, something's wrong!" Someone once said that writing about music is comparable to dancing about architecture. There's no way to convey through the written word just how good the performances on "The Reason Why" are; I can only suggest that you get the CD and find out for your self. If you like cool jazz, hot blues, rock, swing, Michael Franks, Stevie Ray, or Steely Dan, you will love this CD. When you get the disc, turn off the phone and TV, turn the lights down low, pour yourself a glass of fine wine or other suitable spirits, perhaps light up a cigar, sit back, pop in the CD, and get ready for some great music. David Feder took the stage next -- a real world-class act. He did amazing things on an electrified Taylor classical guitar during an absolutely incredible set. Dave premiered several new compositions from two soon-to-be-released CDs called "Black Emerald" and "Leila's Dream," as well as songs from "Waiting for Sara." If his sheer musicianship wasn't dazzling enough, the stories he told about his compositions were funny, moving, and he really touched a lot of people with his music. (Black Emerald)

He engages the audience with a humorous wit as he tells stories of life on the road and in the Keys. He then breaks into some of the most progressive Flamenco Jazz-style guitar ever played. He has an eclectic 'folk meets Celtic meets Samba' musical twist to his songs that are full of smart philosophical lyrics. The audience was dazzled and delighted.

And sometimes a seasoned artist can get so lost in the seduction of mercenary musical survival that their childhood dreams are lost forever. But occasionally, in a rare moment, we are blessed with the kind of talent that waits for it's time and refuses to compromise.
After years of traveling down some challenging musical slopes David Feder has emerged as just that kind of musician with a truthful creative vision all his own. He reminds us that the struggle was worth the wait and inspires us to try it ourselves. He has gifted us with an untainted collection of musical ideas that are savvy yet innocent, intelligent yet accessible. Playing from his heart he shows us more than just a glimpse of his soul. His musicianship incorporates miles of styles, woven into a personal journey telling stories about life through the strings of his guitar.
Hillbilly Flamenco, his self-created genre, is a recipe of grits and gravy with a side of Spanish rice. The music filled with virtuosity is not just about that; the real flavor comes from the humor behind the technique, and the fusion of unlikely cultures that ultimately are tied together in a common folk heritage. When you experience Feder performing live, you get what’s it’s really about. He commands the fretboard with jazz, blues, flamenco and bluegrass riffs that become dazzling guitar dances. And the story he tells about each composition gives insight so unsuspectingly into the psyche of a man full of life and love.
Music conceived from a cross-country motor cycle ride as in "The Ride" and his own interpretation of a young girl’s dream in "Leila's Dream" shows how Feder uses his guitar not only to play but to illustrate.
He is very amusing when he tells of how "Salagua" was created in a real life club experience with his band when a request for a Gypsy Kings style tune turned into a Latin jam. It is especially touching when he shares his feelings for his wife Suzi (whose actual name is Sara) in "Saranade" and his son Nyan in my personal favorite the "Bun".
David Feder’s music needs to be heard and his show needs to be experienced. After listening to Feder this past weekend at his concert at the TRIAD Theatre in New York City, it is evident that he has much to offer to the guitar repertoire. And he brings with him an abundance of entertainment to the stage!

Singer/songwriter/guitarist David Feder has released his latest CD,titled 'The Reason Why." Featuring eleven original songs, "The Reason Why" provides even more proof that Feder continues to be one of the most talented musicians in the Florida Keys. (He's a hell of a nice guy to boot)
Unlike his previous release, "Waiting For Sara," the new disc is a collection of jazz-, blues-, and rock-influenced vocal songs. Not that there's anything lacking in the instrumental side, however, Feder is in his usual excellent form on guitar and vocals, plus guest guitarists Jimmy Hawkins and Roach Thompson lay down some tasty licks. Saxophonist/flautist Marc Berner burns up quite a few tracks as well. Suffice it to say that there are a lot of great performances by some excellent musicians on
"The Reason Why"
Stand out songs include the jazzy "Saltwater' "Captain Captain;" "Swing Out Mamma" (if you don't want to hit the dance floor, something's wrong), the cool "Poison Pillow" and "Baby;' and the hot jazz/blues instrumental "Blues for Cosmo." My two personal favorites are the beautiful "My Every Love" and the title cut, "The Reason Why," performed as a duet with singer/bassist Kim Fry.
Someone once said that writing about music is comparable to dancing about architecture. There's no way to convey through the written word just how good the performances on "The Reason Why" are; I can only suggest that you get the CD and find out for your self. If you like cool jazz, hot blues, rock, swing, Michael Franks, or Steely Dan, you won't be disappointed in the CD. It's available at many retail establishments in the Florida Keys (including Marooned In Marathon), or go to his web site at www.davidfeder.com for more information. When you get the disc, turn off the phone and TV, turn the lights down low, pour yourself a glass of fine wine or other suitable spirits, perhaps light up a cigar, sit back, pop in the CD, and get ready for some great music.

but not too much. You know what I mean? There's a rural, outdoorsy freedom that swings just where it should. There's also a hardly hidden, say, low profile kind of melancholy thread woven through it that, for me, gives David's music it's greatest opportunity for greatness, a universality. Call it a bond of sympathy among countless souls. This might sound heavy but it isn't. David's hands flutter around a guitar creating cascades of sparkling notes; some drift away, others fall into places in us seemingly pre-shaped just to hold them. Not one note is thrown away, a quality shared with only the best writers, composers.

Showing off his skills on guitar, songwriter, and indeed as a producer (production values contained within are of the peak of a professional's career), David blends Latin jazz, funk, and the traditional (and not so traditional) sounds of flamenco for a superb experience in sound. I like that he puts “Please adopt a homeless animal” on all of his CDs; it's that sort of genuine sense of earthly gratitude that so often gets misplaced in the music world. He could easily be the hottest thing out of the Florida Keys right now.
