Biography
The Blackbird Revue blend worn, comfortable Americana and indie-rock with seamless ease to create a sound and feel all their own, yet hinting at ghosts of The Civil Wars, Alison Krauss, and Ryan Adams. Highlighted by husband and wife Jacob and Danielle Prestidge's beautifully soaring harmonies, anchored by lush, empassioned musicianship, and showcasing literate songwriting, The Blackbird Revue's music is at once personal, impacting, and a lot of fun.
They've recently shared the stage with such luminaries as Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, Over the Rhine, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Jay Brannan, while performing at numerous venues across the midwest, including the South By Southwest Festival in Austin TX, and Kansas City's Middle of the Map Fest. The Blackbird Revue was selected as one of 24 national finalists in the Bud Light Battle of the Bands competition, and as a showcasing artist for the Chevy Music Showcase, Kansas City. The bands latest album, "The Whaler & Other Stories" has been featured on numerous radio stations throughout the region, and in publications such as the Kansas City Star's Ink Magazine, and Kansas City's The Pitch Magazine, where the band was nominated for "Best Americana Band" in Kansas City for 2012.
Here's what some folks had to say about it:
""The Whaler & Other Stories" could serve as a textbook example of how folk-inflected, country-informed rock/pop should sound." - J. Howell, Ink Magazine, Kansas City
"The Blackbird Revue puts together folk, indie, and country sounds in a very sophisticated manner. Great songwriting and execution. The most beautiful melodies I've heard all year. Get to know this band. Trust me." - Michael Byars, KCUR Radio, 89.3fm, Kansas City
"The Blackbird Revue plays country-inspired ballads and adrenaline-ridden, soaring anthems fueled by ear-catching harmonies." - Abbie Stutzer, The Pitch magazine, Kansas City
"Beautiful production, lovely melodies, and intelligent lyrics. Nice work all the way around." - Diana Linn Ennis, KKFI Radio, 90.1fm, Kansas City
With a new album due out in late October, and an ever-widening fanbase, the Blackbird Revue is a band to watch in 2012.
