“Garden State quintet James Arlowe and the Ruffian Circus released their debut LP, “Insignificant Fire,” on Oct. 2, and it’s a winner: 10 prime cuts of expertly executed retro blues rock. Album opener “Blue Bouquet” boasts captivating psychedelic and baroque flourishes, “Be Gone Evil Eye” is an awesome five-and-a-half-minute rage and “Letters to Caroline” feels like a relic from a mystical jam session between Tom Petty and The Beatles.”
- Alex Biese, Asbury Park Press

"Wow. This album kicks ass. It simply kicks ass.
Driving blues, soulful vocals, steady bass and drums, and hooks, hooks, hooooooks! They can do bouncy blues (Letters to Caroline), jammy drama that’ll make you think of The Allmans (or maybe even Sabbath’s first record) (Irish Funeral), and rock single/ballad (Man is the food of Man)…They can do it all. Come to Virginia, guys, I need to see you!"

“The best part of The Insignificant Fire is its variety. There is something on the album for everyone to latch onto whether it’s the powerful songwriting of Arlowe, the edgy pop tune “Be Gone Evil Eye”, the accordion accents in “Irish Funeral“ or the spot on bass solo in “Carry Me Along.” The production on the record allows every sound its room to breathe and from the short time I spent with the band, they sound pitch perfect live. ”
- Eric Castellazzo, AsburyRising.net

“With his scruffy beard and newsboy cap, Arlowe looks like a young Bruce Springsteen and, like the early Boss, creates engaging rock ’n’ roll from myriad influences. Elements of country, soul, folk, blues and classic rock mesh to create songs that stand apart individually, but blend into a seamless whole.”
- Jim Testa, The Star Ledger/NJ.com

"These guys are pretty amazing. James Arlowe & The Ruffian Circus is just pure rock 'n' roll. This debut disc full of blues-driven rock ‘n’ roll will, without a doubt, put them on the map, musically speaking."
- Tim Louie, The Aquarian Weekly
__________________________________________

“Combining an array of musical inspiration from genres all across the board, The Circus has created a sound all its own. James Arlowe, the group’s tenacious ringleader, fuses together rock ‘n’ roll, folk and bluesy soul in a way that only he could dream up. With their explosive chemistry, powerful anthems and ability to play to the crowd, James Arlowe & The Ruffian Circus make every stage they play their own performance ring.”
- Megan Baylies, Daily Targum (Rutgers)
