Biography

When he decided to take up the acoustic guitar, perhaps inspired by his college friends, Julian couldn’t imagine how an important part music would play in his life (although his name, the same as John Lennon’s son, already pointed out that connection). He then bought his first instrument back in 2003, and wrote his very first song on the same day. Since then, he’s written hundreds of other lyrics, both in Portuguese (his native language) and English, that prove all his versatility. It is with utter admiration for the works of Lulu Santos, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, Bob Marley, Cartola, Dire Straits, Cazuza, among many others, that Julian goes down the path of samba, bossa nova, reggae, blues, rock, baião and ballads, always with a twist of pop.

In 2007 he wrote “Fla Maior”, declaring his love to Flamengo, the most popular soccer team in Brazil. The video of Julian performing the song on YouTube has reached over 80,000 views. That led to team supporters singing his song at Maracanã Stadium on
three different occasions.

He then founded Generais Marcianos the following year, “a band from Petrópolis of martian descent without a military agenda”. To prove that there is intelligent music on another planet, the Martians have played their own songs from early on. Julian
(vocals, acoustic guitar, guitar) shares the stage with friends Bruno Marx (bass guitar, keyboard, backing vocals, songwriting) and Viktor Corrêa Samurai (drums, percussion).

The single “Maria Flor”, available on the band’s MySpace, was released that year and quickly became popular.

In 2009, Julian won a songwriting contest on Leoni’s website, a famous singer in Brazil, with the lyrics to “Você Além de Tudo”. Leoni also recorded the song and wrote the melody.

Julian is currently busy rehearsing with the band and writing, almost as a vital need, the lyrics and melodies that so often come to his mind, many of which in English. In the new song “The Green World” he invites us all to think about the future of the planet. It
is competing on the Music for the Earth contest, a celebration of Earth Day 2011.
