Biography
JIP is an independent four piece rock band from the Chicagoland area.
JIP’s sound can be described as, “indie alternative rock with a smile”.
JIP was created in 2001 as a solo project by singer/songwriter Jim Gwynn.
In 2011, as the project reached its 10th year JIP transitioned from solo home recordings to creating the album JIP: Year X at Million Yen Studios in Chicago with producer Andy Gerber. The 2011 release Year X found critical acclaim from the tracks such as, “Not Alone, Summer Lows, and Voices”. Year X also included a guest appearance by Grammy nominated artist, Tracy Bonham. JIP toured as an acoustic-duo in 2011 w/ Spencer Watson wrapping up the year with a closing show at Double Door in Chicago.
The success of Year X spurred the urge to work with other artists for songwriter, Jim Gwynn. This collaborative songwriting journey created the 2012 release JIP: Sparks, Flames, and Names. Sparks, Flames, and Names is a “breakup” album of sorts featuring 7 guest artists on 7 different tracks. The guest artists included, “Shaun Hague, Grammy Winner Buick Audra, Nickolas Blazina, Jess Godwin, Joanna Stanielun, Rachel McClusky, and Edison”. SFN came upon great reviews for the concept album and a growing fan base in this timeframe. Songwriter Jim Gwynn also worked with Grammy winner, “Anand Bhatt” as part of an anti-bullying campaign in 2012.
2012 was full of tour dates and a changed lineup as JIP became a 3 piece rock band. The power trio setup included Mike Charbonneau (Drums and Percussion) and Joe D’Onofrio (Bass).
JIP closed our 2012 with headlining shows at Hard Rock and Subterranean in Chicago.
Entering 2013 JIP has become a full force four piece rock band. The lineup includes all past JIP performers as the band works on the full length release LAST CALL at Million Yen Studios in Chicago with Year X producer, Andy Gerber. The new tracks are an inspired, up tempo, and have a full sound.
The release for LAST CALL is slated for late summer 2013. JIP will be actively touring in 2013.
