Biography
The Roalde Dahls are an Indie/Rock/Electric/DIY/Art outfit from Chicago. We started this project with the intentions of making music that felt raw and unsoiled by the cliches that have been known to clog up the industry. Not before long the songs took on a life of their own and grew to sizes we could have never predicted. All our personalities and influences, all of it became a distinct and definitive sound. We are more then just mere musicians; we are a band of writers, poets, directors and philosophers. We are pioneers; a youthful group of creative and exotic role players that have combined a unique combination of sounds and styles to create a specific emanation of raw energy that is said to be "incredibly contagious". You would be hard pressed not to feel something inside while listening to the Roalde Dahls. The band recently won first place at Reggie's Rock Club battle of the bands. They were the first band ever in the competition to not be a headliner and win.
OUR SOUND:
The Roalde Dahls' rare blend of artist influences is what sets the basis for their unique melting pot of a sound. When asked what genre they are, they have coined the simple term “Dahl Rock”. The only way to fully grasp their sound of the indie/rock/electronica, is to understand how all their influences fit together in the fluid puzzle they call a band. The bassist/lead vox (Dylan) was born from the grooves left behind by the genres of Funk, and Motown. He combines this with the rawness of Velvet Underground's grit. Dylan’s interesting pull and slide style allows him to create the driving, funky, low-end backbone that sets an energetic tone as well as an accessible feel to the music. The lead guitarist (Jason) is a mix of most classic rock powerhouses, keeping the band's sound of rock music traditionally at its core. The synth and keyboard player (Nikko) brings his take of minimalist Brian Eno-esque landscapes and his love for the dramatic heart pinching chord progressions. He blends them in with splashes of 8bit tones and nostalgic electronic dance sounds to combine them into a portrait painting of sound that complements the bands aspects of rock in an equal but opposite polarity. Lastly the drummer (Esteban) takes all these sounds and unifies them with his precise modern indie dance/rock drums, drawn from the styles of Arctic Monkeys and The Yellow Magic Orchestra. The mix of drums is what allows The Roalde Dahls to effectively project their energy into the crowd. All the role players that makeup The Roalde Dahls see differently when it comes to the music they appreciate, but it is that appreciation that allows them to infuse all their different influences into one distinct sound (Dahl Rock).
