Millbranch String Theory

Genre: Acoustic
Secondary Genre: Avant-garde Bloomington, Indiana USA Contact

MST pushes the acoustic genre into nearly undefinable territory. With whimsical improvisation, groove-based progressions, a touch of bop and plenty of classical, MST reinterprets unwritten rules of traditional acoustic music while respecting the capacity of traditional Bluegrass instrumentation.

Biography

Jason McCulley, Originally from Nashville, TN, comes from a family immersed in traditional, acoustic music. At an early age, Jason was exposed to many styles of music and displayed an amazing aptitude for multiple instruments, especially, guitar and mandolin. Jason flies through jazzy scales on guitar as readily as he tears through old Celtic tunes on mandolin. His emotive picking and driving, rhythmic accompaniment pushes this trio’s sound toward both intense and soulful.

Stephen Harms, originally from Mesa, AZ. While improvisational on many instruments, including cello and guitar, Stephen is a bassist first. He bows through ballad leads as smoothly as he thumps a funk groove. Both his solos and original compositions reference multiple genres respectfully yet creatively. His playful attitude charms, as he conveys a sublime confidence on stage. The low and melodic tones provide the backbone to this expressive ensemble.

Nick Einterz, was born in Indianapolis to a family of singers. Originally, Nick aspired to sing professionally but later developed a curiously novel, three-finger technique on both guitar and banjo that often sounds classically influenced. His sense of melody delivers seamless lines over the often intense rhythms. Aided by a truly exceptional ear, Nick attacks notes fervently and cleanly, exposing a crisp, elegant smooth sound of the banjo that is unique and refreshing rounding out the sound of MST.
