Declared “Songwriter of the Year” by the Virginia Sound Achievement Awards and WXGI Radio, Nancy Moran has recorded 4 solo CDs, including her latest titled “Something Old, Something New,” which is her most acoustic record to date, featuring live performances of both old (i.e. previously recorded) and new compositions. Her CDs have garnered her public and commercial radio airplay on 80+ stations coast-to-coast and have landed her on the Gavin Americana charts alongside Delbert McClinton and Joan Baez. Additionally, she has been featured internationally on radio stations in Australia, Canada, and Europe.
The Richmond-Times Dispatch called Nancy “nothing short of a [modern-day] Joni Mitchell” and “a force to be reckoned with” while Dirty Linen Magazine says Nancy has “a powerful, expressive voice…stunning.” She has performed at universities, festivals and clubs such as Nashville’s Bluebird, Washington DC’s Birchmere, Cambridge’s Club Passim and the Kerrville (TX) Folk Festival.
Her fans describe her music as "contemporary folk with a rock 'n roll edge," "a cross between Nanci Griffith and Melissa Etheridge," and "Bonnie Raitt meets Carly Simon meets Billy Joel." What makes Nancy really stand out, however, is her delivery. Her performance is often described as "unpretentious" or "natural, not engineered." And her fans report that she "sings from her soul," and that you can "hear the passion in her voice." One friend recently put it this way: "music like Shawn Colvin, delivery more gutsy like Vonda Shepard."
Nancy is quick to point out that you don't need an English degree to listen to her music and understand. "I'm not particularly 'heady' or poetic," Nancy explains. "Music shouldn't be something you have to work at. I use plain english. I write about every day subjects. I spell it out for you...maybe to a fault," she admits. "Some days, I wish I could be more ethereal or nebulous. But that's not me."
In 2005, after substituting frequently for two years, Nancy became a permanent member of the acclaimed all-female folk troupe, The Four Bitchin' Babes. Previous members have included Patty Larkin, Christine Lavin, Suzzy Roche, and Julie Gold with special substitute appearances by artists such as Janis Ian and Mary Travers.
In addition to her solo and Babes performing appearances, Nancy is a frequent key-note speaker at music conferences and events, an NSAI-endorsed music business instructor, a SongU.com online instructor, the former Assistant Editor of American Songwriter Magazine and the author of several books, audio series, and courses including, “The Songwriter’s Survival Kit,” “The Professional Songwriter’s Code of Conduct,” and “Making and Releasing Your Own CD.”
In her spare time (yeah, right), she is currently learning to sew! Nancy resides in Nashville, TN with her husband, Fett, and their two cats, Fluffy and Suzie Q.

Setlist
Two 45-minutes sets or one 75-minute set (usually after an opening act) are typical. But set lengths are negotiable and can range anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes.
Sets consist mainly of original material from Nancy's 4 solo albums, and are a mix of acoustic up-tempos and ballads. She also includes her own version of select covers from popular artists such as The Indigo Girls, Shawn Colvin, Elvis Costello, etc.
