Biography

Lyric Dubee is a rock/pop/blues/jazz artist, born and raised in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. When listening to his music you can hear the influences of all those styles blended into his music, which is why he’s created his own personalized genre called Revolution Rock.

Lyric began his early musical career at the young age of nine, when he first picked up his father’s guitar. A few years and many lessons later, Lyric at the age of fourteen has already released his 2nd full length album and has played in bars, coffee shops, benefit concerts and even large music festivals all around southern Ontario.

Many people consider Lyric to be an old soul with a sound that is new and refreshing. Lyric is influenced by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Linkin’ Park and John Mayer. His sound is unique but appeals to a variety of all ages. Most people are surprised to learn that Lyric writes all of his own music and Lyrics.

Lyric has come a long way in the past five years. His first album, 'Broken Dreams' was released when he was just twelve years old. The CD release party, which was held at the MacLaren Arts Centre in Barrie on May 28, 2011, was a huge success and brought over 150 people out to listen to the new performers sound. Again in May of 2011, Lyric was inspired by a texting and driving video to write a song titled ‘You Instead’ about the issue. The video and song merged together and was then used as an educational tool by the Ontario Provincial Police.

Lyric has been featured in various online interviews and has had many articles written about him. Lyric was featured in an article on cashboxcanada.ca, which stated “He stopped people in their tracks; a fourteen year old playing like Greg Allman is not something you see every day”. Randy Curry from Insider Music Trivia said "We were amazed at the talent, industry connections and multi-genres this Canadian musician plays for his fans. We predict that Lyric Dubee will go far in his own country, as well as on the international music scene". Virgil Scott, a musician and new friend to Lyric said "It's always such a treat being on stage with someone like Lyric. What a passion and spirit at such a young age... He's my brand new best friend...an Old Soul for sure...Can hardly wait to be on stage with him again..Look out Canada, we got another one coming up in the ranks".

There's no doubt that Lyric Dubee is on his way to stardom, already having two full albums titled 'Broken Dreams' and ‘Alive’ under his belt and is currently writing new music. Lyrics talent and passion for music will continue to impress all of those who come across this extremely talented teenager.

  This spring the 13-year-old released Broken Dreams, a seven-song album that he created almost entirely on his own.
  
  Lyric isn't new to the local music scene.
  
  He's played at the Barrie New Music Festival, Music on Main and Groundswell Coffeehouse in Alliston, and is a member of Baxter Central School's band, Baxter Band.
  
  Broken Dreams is his debut album and is already being received well.
  
  The Ontario Provincial Police is using his song You Instead for its campaign against distracted driving. Also, around 200 people showed up to celebrate his CD release party held in Barrie at the end of May.
  
  Wherever the Grade 8 student goes, he has fans, especially young girls. Having followers doesn't surprise the young musician though,
  
  "I just want people to enjoy my music," he said.
  
  He said his songs are inspired by movies (Vamp is about the popular Twilight series) or videos and, sometimes nothing in particular.
  
  His musical inspiration ranges from Linkin Park to John Mayer to Jimmi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.
  
  "I like people who have a special sound that people don't imitate," he said.
  
  Already Lyric has a rhythm for bringing his songs to life.
  
  It always starts with a guitar, that's the instrument he said he's the most fluent in. From there, the vocals come together, then other elements such as the bass and drums.
  
  While recording an album was a lot of work, Lyric liked that he had to work hard for it and enjoyed hearing the songs come together.
  
  "You do so many tracks and only one would fit," he recalled. "I knew it would be a lot of work, but I didn't think it would be that much."
  
  Hard work isn't holding the teen back, but the money to cut another album is.
  
  He has plenty of songs to put together a new album. With the time and money it takes to create it, however, Lyric is looking to record his second album in 2012. Until then, look out for Lyric at local festivals and events.

  BARRIE - With a name like Lyric, this Barrie boy was destined to be in music. Twelve-year-old Lyri...BARRIE - With a name like Lyric, this Barrie boy was destined to be in music.
  Twelve-year-old Lyric Dubee is one of the artists taking part in this weekend’s Barrie New Music Festival.
  
  “This is my third time in the festival,” he said. “It was the first real festival I ever played in so I keep coming back.”
  
  The guitarist/vocalist, who lives just south of Barrie near Thornton, performs a mix of blues and new rock. His inspirations are Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer.
  
  “I am also inspired by bands like Theory of a Deadman and Headly, but my biggest influence is Buddy Guy,” Dubee said.
  
  Recently Dubee has been hard at work writing his own music, which he will unveil on the New Music Fest audience.
  
  “I was listening to a lot of music, and decided to give writing a try. My first song was horrible. But I’ve kept at it. I start with a chord progression, then add in some cool sounds.”
  
  For the festival Dubee has recruited a few friends to accompany him on drums and guitar.
  
  While the young rocker is looking forward to performing at the festival, he said his ultimate goal is to work behind the scenes.
  
  “I’d love to have a job working in a studio somewhere and writing music for other musicians,” he said, “I’m working on learning the bass guitar and piano right now, and I’m getting back into vocal lessons. I just love making music.”
  
  Lyric Dubee performs 8 p.m. Friday at Hooters.
  
  
  Wristbands for the New Music Fest are $15, and available in advance through Ticket Break, or in person at Liquid Chrome and both Comfort Inn locations in Barrie.
