Biography

Stone Road Band consists of Beverly Monte Calvo,
Ed Newkirk and Dan Monte Calvo.

Bev Monte Calvo, on bass and vocals, was born and raised in the United Kingdom. She has been singing since she was a child, loving old English
hymns, and traditional music of her country. When she moved to the United States, she was introduced to Bluegrass by her husband Dan and gradually found herself drawn to the music. The songs she sings will move you, as she sings with all of her heart and soul.

Ed Newkirk, who has been playing guitar since he was eight, fell in love with rock and roll guitar in the 50's. He has opened for some of the great 60's and
70's acts such as the Moody Blues, Captain Hook and the Beach Boys. Ed's band was also on the bill with Charlie Rich, Lynn Anderson and Ray Price.

Dan Monte Calvo started playing the banjo in the late 70's and has always loved that hard drivin' sound. Dan¹s greatest influences have been
Earl Scruggs, J D Crow, Bill Monroe and Danny Barnes. Dan brings his own style to his playing, blending melodic melodies in with his Scruggs-style
banjo rolls. Dan sings lead and harmony vocals.

Keith Allen Bowers
mandolin, guitar

Growing up in Southern Ohio to the sounds of Flatt and Scruggs, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Loretta Lynn in his father's electronics shop, Keith began picking the guitar at age eleven, puzzling over how Merle Travis and Chet Atkins could make so much music with one guitar and a thumb pick. Having survived the Midwest HardRock bubble and the bleak Disco pandemic years of his teens, Keith earned a his BA degree in music theory, composition and classical guitar while teaching private guitar lessons to the young future stars of the video generation. In a questionable attempt to maintain his sanity, Keith entered a career as a designer of professional recording studios and radio production suites during the early days of the digital audio revolution. At this time Keith also produced music for a number of TV and radio commercials, consulted on digital recording for David Copperfield's touring magic show and in
1998 released his first recording "Radiance". Selections from Radiance were featured on syndicated NPR progamming in the late 90s.
In 1999 Keith was honored to be selected as a recipient of the Artist Trust Award for Washington State. As technical director of the Whidbey Island Folk Festival 1995-99, he was inspired music of the 14th 15th and 16th centuries and produced an album of new settings of this music for guitar and mandolin entitled "Circle in the Meadow".
Keith wrote the musical score for the 2002 Richard Evans film "Harry Monument" and will be writing music for the upcomming feature film "Bottle of Rain" to be released in late 2006. Performing at numerous festivals and events through out the Pacific Northwest is a continuing joy and Keith still loves the Travis-Atkins thumb pick style of guitar playing.
