Biography

POLLY WOOD is a drummer and songwriter with a purely revealing and enchanting voice. She sings while she drums, letting rhythms guide her intelligent lyrics and buttery, percussive vocals straight into the heart of the listener. Think 'morning songbird meets nighttime rhythms'. Her prolific songwriting ranges from softly cutting social commentary to honestly sweet love ballads to uplifting edu-tainment which she backs with her rhythmic beats on the djembe, tounge drum, canjon and drum kit. Her sound, which hearkens the sound of a different era, has been called 'Appalachian Jazz Percussion' and 'Acoustic Rhythmic Love Spirituals'. Polly holds an MFA in Creative Inquiry and an MA in Women's Spirituality and has performed extensively in California as well as the northeast US.

TRAVIS KNAPP has been writing and performing his original music for 10 years, and in 2008 won BMI's John Lennon Songwriting Contest for his song "Before You Go." With influences from soul, blues, folk, jazz, and pop styles, Travis' piano and guitar playing are a comfortable extension of his body. His deeply soothing and breathtakingly beautiful vocals have the ability to both transport and transform the listener. Travis studied piano and voice at Ithaca College, where he served as an accompanist for many fine singers. As a member of Ithacappella (IC's premier male a cappella group), he entertained audiences of all ages, from Ithaca and New England, to New Orleans and California. As half of the community education duo "Rot and Roll," Travis writes and performs composting and ecology songs, including "Raw Veggies and Greens" from the Grammy-nominated album "Food for Thought."

TOGETHER, Polly and Travis sculpt their songs into delightful excursions that are both fun and emotionally moving. Audience proclaim that their chemistry in live performance is palpable! They will happily play in the intimacy of your living room or to a grand concert hall.

Since February of 2011, POLLY and TRAVIS have been collaborating on their original tunes in a fateful blending of sounds. After playing for a community Valentine's Day event and an intimate house concert, they hit the road to perform at homes and venues in MA, VT, NY and NH, then around the San Francisco Bay Area. The summer of 2011 finds Polly and Travis as resident musicians and gardeners at the Body Mind Restoration Retreats and Performing Arts Center (Ithaca Zen Center), where they contribute to the healing and delight of guests and staff.
