Biography

Take a splash of electronic madness, mix in the goodness of acoustic instrumentation and you have the makings of something special – Jay Okesene & The Dubtronics!

Jay has taken Drum n Bass, Dub reggae, Dance/Electronica and Hip Hop, thrown them into a pot to cook up some delectable Dubtronica. Creative influences come from Jay’s local surroundings of the South Pacific…the sights, sounds aromas and vibes of Aotearoa New Zealand.

This line up of Brass Section, Guitar & Bass, DJ and Vocals has brought its infectious energy to many local gigs and festivals around New Zealand. Pasifika festival in Auckland (2009/12), The Auckland International Carnival (2010), Parachute Festival in Hamilton (2011-13), The City Showcase festival in Napier (2012) and the Brisbane edition of the Scorcher Festival in Australia (April 2013).

Releasing the 7 track EP ‘We Bring The Noise’ in March 2011, the single ‘Light’ debuted the following month in the Top 20 for Auckland electronic radio station UP FM. The second EP is in its final stages of recording and promising to offer more up lifting feel good music that is designed to be enjoyed in any season.

Often described by listeners as a cross between Fat Freddy’s Drop and Shapeshifter with everything in between, this is one Artist to look out for!
