Artist Information

Biography

It was a combination of love, serendipity and the explosion of a grapejuice supernova that launched The Space Chums into the universe. A cosmic coming-together of 3 talented artists from astronomically different disciplines with a common passion for performing and making music for kids that is truly awesome and will get lifeforms of any age up on their feet/flagella and dancing!

The Space Chums are: Lost Disco-Cosmonaut Boris Nikolai (alter ego: Ian Goodtimes). Space Ninja Linda (alter ego: Lindsay Goodtimes) and Galacto-Fashionista Gussy (alter ego: Kate Keenan)
.
In another dimension, Ian is a musician and composer who played with Sean Cullen for many years and fronted a popular rock band for over a decade. This die-hard rock n’ roller even opened for Iron Maiden!

Lindsay is a trained modern dancer and wildly skilled circus performer who also fronted an all-girl punk band.

Kate is a classically trained actor who was a therapeutic clown at Sick Kids and founded the critically lauded Shrimp Magnet Theatre Company with whom she wrote, directed and performed musical comedies for kids of all ages on Centre Island and across Canada.

The Space Chums first debuted on Planet Earth at Labcab in Toronto in September 2011. The roar of the crowd was detectable from the Kupier Belt. Since then, they have rocked out at Evergreen Brickworks, Roncy Rocks, The Queen West Arts Crawl and numerous street festivals and parties throughout the GTA.

In summer 2012 they were thrilled to be included on the lineup at Hillside Festival in Guelph and released their first album, “Blast Off!”.

The music of the Space Chums is an eclectic mix of genres from disco-pop to ska to 80’s rap. Their sound is big and bright but with enough of an edge that it won’t rot your teeth with sweetness. The lyrics are witty and wry with a healthy dose of the absurd, in keeping with their quirky, interactive and mega-high-energy live show. Think B52’s meets Parliament - you know, for kids!

The Chums are on a mission across the universe to discover the wonders of every galaxy and all the groovy creatures who inhabit them. So far, the crazy stuff here on this little blue planet is really blowing their minds! So they’re looking for some help from some seasoned pros who have lived here for a while (like 2-8 years) to show them the ropes and help them explore nutty things like trees and clouds and chihuahuas.

It’s been a wild ride so far and the Chums are looking forward to more out-of-this-world times here on the third planet from the Sun.
