Biography

Clearly born in the wrong decade, Chelsea Carlson is truly a rocker at heart. Don’t let her blonde hair fool you – Taylor Swift she is not. In a world where it seems every female singer is a popstar, this rock musician is a welcome change. Chelsea took the music scene by storm two years ago when she decided to “go solo” and begin performing acoustically throughout the New York / New Jersey area. What began as appearances at local open mics and a dream has led to the release of two original singles on iTunes, performances at highly acclaimed venues, sharing the stage with well-known musicians, interviews at WDHA and WNTI, a 3-song EP, and collaborations with amazing songwriters. Her journey so far caught the eye of the Daily Record, who featured her among the top ten people to follow in 2013.

Influenced by Robert Plant, Janis Joplin, and Roger Waters, Chelsea is not your typical “singer-songwriter.” Her original music has been described as soulful, powerful, and even cutting. Her vocal style has been compared to that of Grace Potter and Anne Wilson. Chelsea hopes to take the heart of classic rock and blend it with the intensity of the blues, energy of modern rock, and raw emotion of alternative music, into something new and exciting.

Over the years, Chelsea has played in numerous bands and at many venues, including the Hard Rock Café in Niagara Falls, Stone Pony in Asbury Park, and Bitter End in NYC. Chelsea’s shows are energetic and captivating. Whether she is performing solo, with a full band, or in an acoustic duo, Chelsea’s performance will leave you wanting more. Her setlist not only includes original music, but creative covers ranging from Jefferson Airplane to the Foo Fighters. No matter the venue or band, her true home is performing onstage.

Chelsea recently completed her third semester at Berklee College of Music, where she studied bass guitar and music business. Currently, she is working on putting together a full album of her original songs, and performing throughout the area. In December 2012, Chelsea was asked to join Half Moon Revival, a Janis Joplin tribute band featuring some of New Jersey’s greatest musicians and scheduled to debut this winter. In addition to performing, Chelsea also hosts the Singer/Songwriter Night at Robin’s Nest Rhythm & Blues, NJ’s only blues juke joint, and teaches music lessons at Valley Music Center in Long Valley.

In a rapidly changing music industry, Chelsea Carlson is someone you will want to keep your eye on!
