The band is offering STRANDED, an energetic chompin' guitar tune with a catchy melody, available for download online. Just teetering on the edge of a commercial sound left me wanting to hear more!   So when I first got this album I was looking forward to what appeared to be a young street punk band...So when I first got this album I was looking forward to what appeared to be a young street punk band. But then I read the title of the disc, "Schoolyard Riot" and I thought maybe these kids are really young, but atleast they would play stripped down punk rock. All of my initial images of the band have been dashed with the first track, "Everything To Me"... It's a catchy pop-punk gem that is fast-paced, upbeat and features a sing-along chorus. Not really what I expected. But the disc doesn't stop there, "Stranded" sees the band sounding a lot like Green Day, more pop punk, but it's getting better. By the third track, the band manages to hit their stride with "Hurry Back", a dark and gritty love-hate tribute, that creeps into horror-punk. The fourth track on the ten song album is something along the lines of a slowed down ska tune... I don't think that the band is schitzo, it's that they have a lot of influences and haven't quite found their own individual sound. The remainder of the disc gets better and better, as the band manages to locate a sound that fits them very well, that being catchy, punk rock, not pop-punk, but straight-up good ole punk rock music that has you singing and dancing along with every beat. Not Quite Rebels wraps up the album with a great ska tune, "Dead To Me", that blends a lot of the previous songs into one. Utilizing both ska, horror rock, punk and pop-punk lyrics with a twist, the band pulls it off very well. Not Quite Rebels have got tremendous talent and can write appealing tunes, let's hope they find a sound that they can stick to, instead of bouncing around as many genres as tracks on their albums. -MG
