Biography

Awaken I Am are a 5-piece Progressive Pop-Rock band from Australia's tropical Brisbane and Gold Coast areas. AIA have been playing shows, touring and hitting the Australian music scene for years now, cementing their name nationally. They have earned both support slots and tour support positions with some of the biggest names to come through - The Amity Affliction, Closure In Moscow, As Tall As Lions, Lydia, Dream On Dreamer, Cartel, In Hearts Wake, Tonight Alive, Parkway Drive, The Mission In Motion, Skyway, Caulfield, Rufio, Floating Me, Electric Horse, The Winnie Coopers and Surecut Kids, just to name a small handful.
Awaken I Am are easily distinguished from other bands in many ways. Their EP, Resonance, is filled with infectious guitar riffs, playful drum structures, catchy composition, and perfectly subtle synths. Their insightful, perceptive lyrics and heartfelt, energetic music can be embraced by audiences of multiple genres, which is why they draw fans from a variety of bases including rock, hardcore, alternative, pop and indie.
Awaken I Am's live show is something to be seen as well. They are teeming with energy and it doesn't take the crowd very long to catch on to their enthusiasm. They hit you with passionate vocal harmonies and instrumentals that remain as tight as they are on the album.

Awaken I Am are most closely related to bands such as Sleeping With Sirens, Saosin, Closure In Moscow and Emarosa. Most of the likeness is taken from the vocal capabilities of Adam Douglas. Recently the overseas popularity of bands and artists such as Sleeping With Sirens, Chiodos (after regaining vocalist Craig Owens), Jonny Craig and Pierce The Veil have begun to pick up dramatically. The fan base for music that is more pop based rock and a slightly higher octave of clean vocal singing is growing rapidly, especially in the US market, and we fully plan to take advantage of this trend. That is the exact style of music that we have been making for years, and we will NOT miss this opportunity. Every member of the band is fully committed, have done and will continue to do what is necessary to follow their dream through.
We already boast an impressively strong fan base from the United States, and it only strengthens by the day. Most of our contest winners and online daily interactions are with our audience in the international markets, although the Aussies come to shows in full force every time. In Japan, our EP peaked at #3 on the Rock pre-order charts, only beaten by We Came As Romans and The Devil Wears Prada.

  Their album, Resonance is an expertly executed experience that you don’t want to miss out on. The album starts off with a prelude of synths that whet your appetite for the music that is to come. The second track “It’s Just Business” bursts onto the soundscape with catchy synths, strong vocals, and an intricate web of guitars; a recipe that works for them through the rest of the album. All that paired with Adam’s insightful lyrics make this album the complete package.
  
  Their track “Lumineux” strips it all away in a vulnerable number driven by piano and strings that proves that they can be just as convincing without the hype of their catchier tracks. All in all they show a lot of versatility and a lot of talent on this album and it is definitely worth picking up. Hopefully they’ll start touring outside Australia soon so that the rest of the world can appreciate them as well.

  This quote from Awaken I Am’s EP Resonance, released in October 2011, could not define this album better. Infectious guitar riffs, catchy lyrics with beautiful melodies, and drums you can’t help but tap your feet to, meld together to form this very solid album that is over way too fast.
  
  Awaken I Am is a 5-piece Progressive Pop-Rock band from the Gold Coast and Brisbane, Australia and was formed as a fresh start from the fragments of a band known as Sleepers. Band members include: Adam Douglas (lyrics), Ashley Jackson (guitar), Dave Nankervis (guitar/vocals), Joel Goodlet (drums), and Daniel Minns (bass). In the past year Awaken I Am has toured with an impressive amount of well-known bands such as The Amity Affliction, Closure In Moscow, As Tall As Lions, Lydia, Dream On Dreamer, Tonight Alive, Parkway Drive, Skyway, Caulfield, Rufio, Floating Me, Electric Horse, The Winnie Coopers, Surecut Kids, and many more. The band is currently in the process of writing/recording for a new album to be released later this year and has a couple of that album’s singles on youtube.
  
  Their album Resonance genuinely surprised me. My head began to move back and forth and my feet started to tap out the beat from the moment I started the album. I have since replayed the album in its entirety ten more times and still find myself enjoying every second of it. Their sound is not completely unique, however it is far from a cookie-cutter pop-rock band. The album remains fresh with each listen and shows a clear distinction between each song by giving them each their own unique characteristic. Resonance starts with an eerie prelude and quickly jumps into hard-hitting vocals and exciting drum patterns with the song, It’s Just Business (one of my favorites on the album and where the quote above came from). After another catchy song called Humble, Not Humbled, the band slows it down in the song Lumineux, which includes beautiful vocals accompanied by a peaceful piano sequence and an underlying synth drum pattern. After another one of my favorite songs on the album because of its commanding guitar riffs called Time Is Not An Option, is a brief interlude that’s then followed by the remaining two songs, Walk Alone and Consider The Thought.
  
  From start to finish this album will have you moving and leave you with wanting more. In summary, support this band and buy this album.
