BAND DESCRIPTION
Caldwell Shine is a modern rock band from Austin. Imagine the Earth - relaxed, and dancing to an infectious grass-roots vibe inside a blending of rock, jazz, jams, and a little folk. For listeners of Steely Dan, Radiohead, and DMB.
The sound of this band is rich - beginning with jazzy and very rhythmic acoustic guitar chords, caressed with Gadd-like drums and rich bass expressions. The vocals will sometimes tell a story while other times, they rhyme a catchy hook - always executed with clear and full expression right from the heart and often while searching for the melody in the harmony. Top it all off with a full sonic range of lead guitar that sometimes adds touches of Santana, Tim Reynolds, and Larry Carlton. Sometimes the band puts the beat where you expect it - sometimes it's where you don't.
This band of brothers is a living, breathing, chuckling creation led by songwriter Caldwell Shine. Together, Caldwell Shine offers the listener combined musical talents from many different genres. The music is always catchy - sometimes going on a journey - always interesting, and always packing a groove to familiar and new places.
MEMBERS
Caldwell Shine
...was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Texas. He discovered a life-long love of
music from an early age. Dance music and Middle Eastern music sparked the beginning of what
has become a fantastic musical journey. As a young boy, he spent much of his time dancing
and running sound for a Middle Eastern dance studio. The beats in the music were heavy with
drums and very hypnotic, and it was during this time that he developed the passion for the
seduction of rhythm.
At age 12, Caldwell began taking guitar lessons. A little later on, Caldwell was introduced to
classical music and jazz in a band program demonstration for his middle school. From that
point forward, his love for music grew as he was exposed to new sounds, and most importantly
to performing music with other people and learning music theory. Caldwell excelled in playing
the trumpet.
He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Marketing and a minor in Computer
Science.
His current guitar instructor is the critically acclaimed Mark Tokach.
Caldwell attended the Kerrville Folk Festival's Songwriting school and learned the basics of
songwriting. From that point forward, Caldwell wrote constantly and amassed a large amount of
songs.
In 2003, Caldwell formed a band to help promote the goals of his musical vision.
Silas Parker
Silas was born in the Ozark Mountains of Northern Arkansas. His parents, both musicians, exposed their son to a variety of musical genres at an early age. He began playing bass guitar in 1990. Silas has performed professionally since he was 15 years old, living and touring the West Coast, Europe, and Texas. He lives to play good music with good friends. Silas is known to have a contagious smile on stage and loves to entertain an audience.
Clem Trout
Clem hails from SoCal but now calls the Hill Country home. He plays most things with strings and frets. After working as a touring musician/singer-songwriter for some years, he got out of the music business to pursue a career. Now, he’s back where he belongs, coaxing sweet sounds from a guitar.
Alan Vela
Hailing from Houston, Texas, Alan is the drummer for the University of Texas basketball band. An avid listener of jazz, fusion, rock, and pop, Alan brings solid and creative brush strokes to the canvas.
