Antero is a soulfully energetic roots rock reggae band. The sound inspires, entertains, and moves the masses with creative drum riddims, solid thunder bass, and a unique voice. These groups of seasoned musicians have come together as a major presence in Virginia reggae and a staple on the local music scene.

Biography

Current (2012): House band at local venue the National for roots/reggae genre (opening act for: Steel Pulse, the Original Wailers), Openers for Culture at Canal Club (RVA) in February, Participated in Hampton Reggae Fest: along with the Meditations, Culture, and the Itals (Hampton, VA), on the bill for Camp Barefoot in Bartow, WV (Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstafunk, Ghostland Observatory). Ongoing local gigs including Reggae Mondays at the Camel (formerly at Martini Kitchen & Bubble Bar), monthly at Siné, and frequent bookings at various local venues, other events: fundraisers (@ Whole Foods), block parties, weddings, private affairs

History: Drummer Sheroshick and percussionist Larson, joined by then bassist Sam Krivanec originally formed as the Richmond Dub Collective. With the addition of front man W. Jones in 2003, who took a brief hiatus only to return in 2007, they became the founding members of Antero. The band’s first album Do Something debuted in 2006 and features twelve tracks including “Back in Babylon”, the song that best defines the sound and vibe of the compilation as a whole. Antero helped start and popularize the event Reggae Mondays in Richmond, drawing colorful crowds and delighting audiences with performances highlighting crowd interaction and a treasure trove of special guests including being joined on stage by the horn section of national touring act O.A.R when they stopped through town. Notable acts the band has been associated with include: Gregory Isaacs, Culture, Eek-A-Mouse, Richie Spencer and Morgan Heritage.
