Biography

The Sad Lives Of The Hollywood Lovers is a Virginia based group that infuses new sounds and old styles with an original pop sensibility that will make Molly Ringwald dance her way out of detention. With influences varying among the great arrangers of yester year, the pioneers of hip hop, the roots of alternative rock, and the innovators of modern electronic music there is little to indicate what will come next, or where their songwriting ability ends. The one thing that is evident in their evolving musical arsenal is the consistent larger than life sound which mixes both the warm and organic with the cold and artificial. The Sad Lives; Hunter (vocals, keys), Mark (vocals, guitars), Harrison (drums), and Sean (bass) combine their innate electricity to forge a live show with the explosive power of an atomic bomb.
There is no way to stop the rock, so you might as well dance.

With the trend comes a new neo-New Wave and Staunton’s Sad Lives of the Hollywood Lovers. The Silencer EP picks up right where our precious Echo left off, with standout tracks “Fedora,” “We Are Neon Lights” and “Running from the Paparazzi” sweating more profusely than Billy Idol. Think of them akin to XTC or Joy Division, except more electronic and less dead. We need more current comparisons: The Bravery with less narcissism, The Killers with sharper teeth, Bloc Party with a much closer zip code. Until the impending releases of DangerDoom and the Wu-Tang/indie-rap collaboration, this fascination with anachronism dominates my summer days. —Tony Borash
