Folk/blues singer/songwriter, Ali Towers was born in Robin Hood country, Nottingham, England, raised on his parents’ John Lennon Records and imported to Perth, WA around the turn of the century.
Ali has just released a solo EP called The Used Future through Newmarket Music. The EP was recorded at Sumo Studios, Perth with Laurie McCallum (Anime Fire/Fools Rush In) and mastered by William Bowden (Bob Evans / Paul Dempsey) in Sydney.
Ali’s soul is with the Blues and Folk side of Pop in the vein of Van Morrison, Ray Lamontagne, and Tom Waits, but he has a diverse back catalogue, venturing into trip hop, rock and even theatrical pieces for the Edinburgh Festival. In 2002, Ali co-wrote and recorded the successful dance track, Stay High, which debuted in Ibiza and the Miami Music festival where DJ Tall Paul added the track to his set.
Before coming to Australia, Ali had been lucky enough to travel through Europe and America and has managed to play at some inspiring venues including the great CBGS’s, before its unfortunate close. Ali aspires to masterpieces such as Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, Jeff Buckley’s Grace, Radiohead’s Ok Computer, Pink Floyd’s Darkside of the Moon and relishes in their ability to send shivers with powerful and lulling melodies, embedded with poetic lyrics. These factors were at the forefront of Ali’s mind when he set foot in the studio to record The Used Future EP.
The Used Future EP features 5 of Ali’s most haunting yet commercial songs to date. As well as providing a great taster for what is in store, the EP also works as a great piece itself, its dark tales told with the aid of a string quartet, flute and lamenting Spanish guitar. Already “Album of the Week” and Number 1 on Australian Internet Radio, it is now available nationally through Newmarket Music at both major and independent retail, and online stores including Amazon and iTunes. Track 2- Hold On (The Sky’s Burning) has just achieved 2nd place in the Pop category of the Australian Songwriters Association Contest.
Ali Towers is currently touring to promote the EP both solo, and with a 4 piece band, and recently supported Thirsty Merc and Village Kid.

  English expatriate Ali Towers has had a interesting musical journey according to his biography, both genre-wise and in life in general. Having traveled through Europe and America, he has experimented with trip-hop, rock and theatrical pieces before returning to his roots in folk-pop. The Used Future is his EP showcasing five tracks of mature, mid-paced songs in the same vein as bands like The Whitlams.
  
  The five songs features impressively lush arrangements featuring a string quartet, a flute as well as a piano alongside the traditional guitar/bass/drum setup. From the first piano chords of The Used Future to the last chords of Only The Fit Survive, Ali Towers manages an impressive consistency with his tunes, tied together with lyrics dealing with the fragility of life. The highlight of EP is the last track Only The Fit Survive, with its slow-burn feel and a wonderful string ending.

  By the time Matters of Fiction started, the Amplifier was packed - they drew quite a crowd to watch them launch their EP 'All You'. They played a similar kind of music as Grand Central, but with the addition of a keyboard and harmonica, neither of which were used enough in their set in my opinion. The harmonica especially was a nice touch when it came out... it's an instrument commonly used by quieter acoustic acts, but rarely by louder rocking acts. It really spiced up the song it was in.
