"Tiny Hearts – “Snow Cold” Video"

I’m an idiot.
I’m in the gym the other night, and I cue up my “MISC” playlist for the workout. This is a playlist of stray songs that I just throw together when I don’t really care to organize anything at the time. Drake’s “We Made It” just faded out, and in came another song that completely caught me off guard. “What the hell is this? This is NICE!!!!!!!!” Looked at the iPod: Tiny Hearts : Snow Cold.
Took me a while to register, but then I vaguely remember FWMJ sending me a link or something at 3AM about a month before. (He does it all the time). I literally kicked myself (don’t ask me how) for waiting an entire month to listen to this song, and it ended up being the only song that I listened to for the rest of the workout. I asked FWMJ about it when I got home, and he hit me with a snarky “duh” or “you slippin”, as he’s prone to do . Then he linked me to the Bandcamp. Credit card info memorized. Bought. Downloaded. Immediate fan.
End of stanning. Please watch their newly released video for “Snow Cold”, appropriately titled for the weather that most of are enduring. - Rappers I Know

"Video: Tiny Hearts – “Snow Cold”"

Tiny Hearts today drop their video for the synthy "Snow Cold" on the most fitting of NYC days. Marvelous use of subtle light. - Giant Step

"WATCH TINY HEARTS' VIDEO FOR "SNOW COLD""

If you're on the East Coast right now this song, by LA-based trio Tiny Hearts, is extra appropriate. As a blizzard rages outside, singer Dede applies her glacially seductive tones to the hypnotic, synth-stuttered, Moroder-esque single "Snow Cold"—crafted by fellow Tiny Hearts, Waajeed (a founding member of Detroit's Slum Village and Platinum Pied Pipers) and jazz-trained producer Tim K. The video is similarly film noir cool and slickly styled to boot (nice Maison Martin Margiela perspex wedges).

Dede from Tiny Hearts had this to say about it: "The video documents a journey of a character from the depths of an underground garage to the edge of civilization. The dreamlike bokeh offers a study in binary sequence as the simple code and structure of a technologically advanced society. Lights blink off and on, smeared and unfocused, bubbling and reflecting the buzzing analog synthesis of the music."

Tiny Hearts' EP Stay is out now. - Noisey/Vice

"The Collective: Getting to know the electronic vibes of Tiny Hearts"

Anthony Valadez of The Collective Powered by VEVO (airing every Thursday at 10pm ET) always has his ear on the ground when it comes to new sounds and bands. This time, he is introducing us to the electronica sounds of the group, Tiny Hearts.
Comprised of a trifecta of talent with vocalist Deanne Reynolds, producer Jeedo X, and producer and composer Tim K, the group is fairly new having come together in 2011. Working with producer Waajeed, the group feels like they stepped up their game. When asked what are their influential music genres, soul, R&B, post-techno, post-house and with a little bit of jazz seem to cover it. If you’re into something that is mellow, a bit nuanced, this may be your sound. - Nuvo TV/ Vevo

"Take to Hearts: Electronic Music’s Haunting New Trio"

One of the most talented and nicest blokes that I know is Tim K. Tim K is a classically trained musician and a member of the band Tiny Hearts. Tiny Hearts is an electronic, post-trap trio from Los Angeles and Detroit that consists of fellow producer Waajeed (Slum Village, Platinum Pied Pipers), singer Dede Reynolds, and Tim K himself (Les Nubians, Dam Funk, Esthero). Their music is an intense study in music juxtaposition, combining the aggressive and futuristic programming of Waajeed with Dede’s haunting vocals. They just released their EP Stay, along with a really amazing video, below. I expect big things from these kids.

"Ears Wide Open: Tiny Hearts"

Equal parts Brooklyn, Detroit and Los Angeles in origin, the trio Tiny Hearts makes music that is equal parts electro-soul, jazz-hop and synth-pop, like a cross between Poliça and Portishead. Composed of vocalist Dede Reynolds, composer/producer Tim K and producer Waajeed (one of the founding members of Platinum Pied Pipers and Slum Village), the three met at a bar beneath the J train in Brooklyn a few years ago and subsequently began collaborating, resulting in the Stay EP. Its infectious title track “Stay” opens with synthy bass line that blossoms into a buzzing symphony of layered electronic textures and grimy trip-hop beats, anchored with Dede’s slightly modulated and icy smooth voice. Her dreamy and seductive tones shine on “Snow Cold,” gliding across funky and futuristic soundscape brimming with beats and flourishes. The EP is available for purchase on both analog and digital platforms. - Buzzbands.LA

"LISTEN UP: 12 ARTISTS TO KEEP ON YOUR RADAR FOR 2014"

Ah, a new year. Here’s to new adventures, ambitious resolutions, and, of course, new music. We’ve compiled a preview of some great new—and not-so-new—musical acts / tracks you should have on your radar for 2014.......

.....TINY HEARTS: “Stay”
Comprised of singer DeDe Reynolds, jazz trained composer Tim K and producer Waajeed of Platinum Pied Pipers fame, Tiny Hearts came together on a fateful night in a bar in Brooklyn in 2011. Since then, the trio has relocated to LA, and wowed us with their debut Stay EP. Waajeed and Tim K create a gritty cocktail of melodic and lyrical potency, while Dede Reynolds' ephemeral vocals bring the whole thing home with an affect that combines a bit of enigmatic gypsy mysticism with a healthy serving of old Hollywood charm. - LA CANVAS

"Pigeons and Planes- VIDEO PREMIERE: TINY HEARTS – “STAY”"

As a follow up to their stellar debut Stay EP, eclectic electro-soul trio Tiny Hearts give their single of the same name the video treatment. Its a surrealistic portrait of domestic life, depicting two children happening upon a living room full of floating men who spring to life and start dancing. Strange and often beautiful, “Stay” isn’t the sort of video you’d necessarily envision when listening to the song that inspired it, but it’s a treatment that creates an intriguing, abstract new accompaniment, a set of images that don’t reveal clear purpose immediately. Offering the potential for interpretation on repeat plays, “Stay” is a fitting companion to layered and rewarding music. - Pigeons and Planes

"KCRW- Tiny Hearts: Artist You Should Know"

Tiny Hearts caught my attention via producer Waajeed.

Another lifetime ago, Waajeed was a dj/collaborator in Detroit hip hop group Slum Village. He then moved onto a project that went under the moniker of Platinum Pied Pipers (PPP) which, at that time, caught the attention of many music journalists and DJs. It was nothing like his earlier production work — Rhodes, off tempo snares and vocals were the most dominant elements in the PPP sound.

Waajeed ended up using the name “Jeedo” and began putting out instrumental projects here and there.

Then, out of nowhere, appeared Tiny Hearts. Formed in a bar somewhere in Brooklyn, Jeedo hooked up with Tim K and Dede Reynolds to create something new and different.

The track “Centerfold” caught my attention with its bouncy synth and live drum element. Dede’s vocals are dreamy, spacey and just right in the mix.
Now based mostly in LA, the band plays a show at the Bootleg Theatre this Wednesday. I’m excited to open for them and to see this project come to life!

If you want to know more about this trio, check out this interview I hosted recently about their creative process and find their EP here. - KCRW

"TINY HEARTS – STAY EP"

The comrades of Tiny Hearts ® (Waajeed, Dede Reynolds, Tim K) met at a bar beneath the J train in New York City. Cadillac margaritas and invisible hands pushed the three to a southside basement for a late night listening session. Resulting remixes led to original mixes, and the group was formed. Voices from the beyond, esoteric concepts and milkshake metrics all played a role in this groups’ fruition. The result: a reflection of intention.... - The Orange Press

"[SONG] TINY HEARTS - STAY"

I don't know about you guys, but I like my electro pop a little uncomfortable. A dissonant sound, contrasting lyrics or purposeful ugliness are a great tempering element for pop's potential for saccharine sweetness. It's like salted caramel.

That's what I'm loving about "Stay," an electro pop single from relatively new group Tiny Hearts. It starts with a minimal beat, something an indie band like The Blow would turn into a sparse pop tune. But then a yeti adds a layer of distorted growling to anchor the whole song: "tell me when to stay / never let go / tell me when to stay / never let go." It's the kind of sound that defines a songs appeal. But there's another secret ingredient -- Dede Reynolds' soulful voice that seems to glide over and through the beat. It's a small thing, but it shows off their ear for soundscapes and forward thinking tastes.

Tiny Hearts is Dede Reynolds, Jeedo (aka Wajeed of Slum Village) and Tim K. They recall some of the great R&B fusion work of bands like Little Dragon or the cutting edge composing of artists like Jai Paul. It's sharp, moody and refreshingly modern. "Stay" is the stand out, but you can find even more of their work at their SoundCloud.

Stay EP is out November 5 on Dirt Tech Reck.

"Song Of The Day: Tiny Hearts “Snow Cold”"

Producer Waajeed has a track record that goes back to work with J Dilla and Slum Village on Detroit’s hip-hop scene. He then went on to redefine nu soul in the 2000's with his Platinum Pied Pipers project.

Then he disappeared.

Or rather, he laid low for a few years to re-tool his sound and develop new concepts.

The result was Dirt Tech Reck an eponymous label and recording project that took his rugged beatcraft in a more twisted and raw direction.

Waajeed’s sabbatical also yielded Tiny Hearts, his new vocalist/electronic hybrid group.

“Snow Cold” is my favorite track on their introductory EP, combining a filthy musical backdrop with a forlorn, delicate vocal. - DJ D-MAC

"TAIL MAGAZINE- TINY HEARTS COVER AND INTERVIEW"

LA based trio Tiny Hearts fuses electronic, ruff melodies into an original sound that, though challenging, owns a distinctive feel good factor. They define their approach as a reflection on intention and present their sonic and conceptual complexity on their amazing debut, STAY. Consisting of Jeedo (former producer to Slum Village), Tim K. and Dede Reynolds, every member provides something exceptionally unique to the project, ending up in a well-rounded musical venture that got us so excited we chose Tiny Hearts for this issue's cover. - TAIL MAGAZINE

"Tiny Hearts – Stay EP"

If you missed Tiny Hearts new Stay EP, make sure to stream it on Bandcamp.

Amongst the multitude of brilliant releases, you might have overlooked Tiny Hearts’ Stay EP. We covered the artistically decorated video for Centerfold and now it’s the turn of their first release. The group comprising of Sampleface favourite Waajeed, Dede Reynolds and Tim K, fashioned the four track EP after a meeting in a bar in New York and the mix of Waajeed’s techno and hip hop background and Dede and Tim K’s dreamy synth pop (the latter of whom form their own group, DEDE) make both themselves and their productions bob like buoys in the electronic-heavy sea of modern music. Nothing is superfluous or wasted on the EP, from moody title track to the expertly-produced Snow Cold.

"TINY HEARTS – STAY (EP)"

While everyone is up Lorde’s vagina with the ever quickness I have to say y’all just hit the snooze button on Dede Reynolds, Jeedo, and Tim K are doing it right. I saw on the Twitter’s that folks wanted to see Kanye and Lorde do a song together well go ahead and listen to “Stay” and you tell me that doesn’t sound like something they would do? I’ll wait. The only exception is that Dede, in my humble opinion, is better than Lorde. Yes I just said that. So if you have a problem with it put up or shut up. Don’t Sleep. - Original Mattress

"Potholes In My Blog- Tiny Hearts – Stay EP"

Tiny Hearts - Stay EP
Dirt Tech Reck: 2013

Dynamic. Erotic. Cinematic. Those are the type of clear adjectives that describe the feel of Tiny Heart’s Stay EP. It’s 15+ minutes of singer Dede and producers Tim K and Waajeed’s metropolitan late-night wave. The trio carefully pivots around the roots of r&b, soul and 80s pop to craft a sound that is intimate and magnetic, while being contemporary and futuristic. While the bastard children of rhythm and blues continue to whore themselves out to the latest trends on the mainstream (terribly singing and dancing about empty sex in lavish clubs), Tiny Hearts adds to a list of progressives like Muhsinah, Sonnymoon, and Cocaine 80s incubating that weary spirit in the now.

The lead single/video “Centerfold” is a stuttering concoction of razor blade bass, airy synth, and electric ambience that envelops Dede’s voice just enough for her to sweetly break on through. The EP’s opening song “Stay” sounds like it could easily sit on contemporary urban radio with its trap-ish undertone and pitched-down vocal harmony. Yet, the song is equal parts tender and elegant that makes one want to throw light ‘bows while reminiscing about a past love. The real winner on the EP though is “Snow Cold”, which sounds like theme music to a sci-fi flick about robot trying to escape termination. Tim K and Waajeed create these oscillating funky low-ends within the song that bleed into anxious textures Dede angelically glides over; it’s simply one of the best songs I’ve heard all year.

While I don’t want to over-hype a four song set, I do hope this EP gains Tiny Hearts a healthy fan base that will not be satisfied with this short sonic bliss and bring us a full length soon. Dede’s voice (while not a towering power), has a tone that sooths, guides, and seduces the listener through the layers of Tim and Waajeed’s dreamy fragmented boom. The music sounds like crushed glass reflecting images of lovers, insects, and aliens revealing life’s little secrets across the best cityscapes. Let’s hope this small humble beginning echoes through the internet and begins to make some serious noise. - Potholes In My Blog

"TINY HEARTS BOOTLEG THEATER RECAP"

This was Tiny Hearts first official live show (other than the Boiler Room set) and the trio had the room moving. As they began their set the room begin to fill full of spectators. Tim K kicked off the harmonies with his voice box as Jeedo laid down samples and drums which had the heads bopping. Dede took to the stage and owned it! This was a great live set by the trio and I hope to see more of them! It was also great to bump into KPFK’s Morgan Rhodes and J Rocc in the building. - ANTVALA

"Tiny Hearts - Stay"

We are very happy to share the great new video for Stay by Tiny Hearts, directed by director Justin Kelly (The Gossip’s “Men in Love”) and cinematographer Chris Blauvelt (Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Bling Ring’).

Tiny Hearts consist of producer Wajeed (Platinum Pied Pipers / Slum Village), singer Dede Reynolds and jazz-trained producer/composer Tim K. Last month saw the release of their brilliant debut EP, also called Stay. Listen and buy on bandcamp.

You can watch the video for Centerfold, by the Dario Argento-inspired director Aron Kantor, right here. - Colectivo Futuro

"Pigeons and Planes- BEST SONGS OF THE WEEK"

Tiny Hearts - "Stay"
To try to rigidly classify Tiny Hearts' music is to do it reductive injustice. Poppy without being corny, alternatively icy and warm, indebted to experimental soul, Detroit hip-hop, and a laundry list of other influences, "Stay"–the opening track to the trio's EP of the same name–manages to mix its constituent parts without feeling like some horrible genre-jumping Frankenstein. It's a whole greater than the sum of elements, never losing its mystical melancholy for the sake of exploring any particular inspiration, remaining cohesive and succeeding because of its commitment to mood. - Jon Tanners - Pigeons and Planes

"Okayplayer- Video Premiere: Tiny Hearts – “Centerfold” (dir. Aron Kantor)"

Tiny Hearts (Waajeed, Dede Reynolds & Tim K) present the video for “Centerfold” from their forthcoming STAY EP, dropping September 17th via Jeedo’s Dirt Tech Reck. The group formed following a chance meeting at a New York bar that led the trio to share tracks and ultimately collaborate on a few remixes. Waajeed and Tim K bring their vast musical experiences and expertise to the table to create a gritty foundation that relies heavily on melodic and lyrical potency. Those elements are employed in a delicate balance that marries the trio’s homegrown influences by pulling from the best of their sonic foundations in Detroit and Los Angeles. Dede Reynolds brings the whole thing home with an affect that combines a bit of enigmatic gypsy mysticism with a healthy serving of old Hollywood charm; her floating vocal absolutely kills over the thumping bass synth on the track. Following a glowing endorsement from Benji B and two years of work on the project, the STAY EP is finally ready for your ears. Director Aron Kantor has stepped to the plate to deliver a stunning visual for “Centerfold” that draws artistic inspiration from Dario Argento, providing a solid introduction for the uninitiated. There is nothing small about the sound of Tiny Hearts. Check the footage below to get a taste of “Centerfold” from Tiny Hearts. Who is Tiny Hearts?
Tiny Hearts ® is a collaborative sonic emulsification between music makers Waajeed, Dede Reynolds, and Tim K. Representing origins of Detroit, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn, the group’s diverse sound reflects influence of trip hop, trap and electronic music. The trio met at a bar beneath the J-train in New York City in 2009. After rounds of cadillac margaritas, invisible hands led them to a basement studio on the south side for a late night listening session. "The Mahogany Blog- Introducing… Tiny Hearts"

J Dilla affiliate Wajeed is founding member and producer for the trip-hop [esque] trio Tiny Hearts. The Detroit via LA threesome make dreamy hip hop with an electronic tang. The swung, knocking beats are galvanized by zapping synths (played by Tim K) and the aforementioned is all nicely polished off by Dede’s ethereal vocals. The recently released EP ‘Stay’ is a strong effort; short and sweet- all of the tracks are pretty awesome!

Asynchronous, moody, futuristic and still funky, The Stay EP by Tiny Hearts is a must listen. We thoroughly enjoyed this aural journey, which is the same time dark and silky. Enjoy. - Soulhead

"Forever 12- **NEW MUSIC** TINY HEARTS"

I am (and most likely will always be) a fan of Waajeed. Seems like no matter what he puts his hands on, it turns to awesome! Same holds true with his latest co-lab group – Tiny Hearts. Comprised of producer/composer Tim K (Tim Kvasnosky), vocalist Deanne Reynolds of DEDE and Waajeed of course, they’re sound is what I like to call “Electro Space Boogie” – its triply and sexy and dark and fun all at the same time!

"Original Mattress- TINY HEARTS – CENTERFOLD"

The Grinch had one off these and he was like Oscar the Grouch times twelve and lived in a cave with a gangly looking runt of a dog. Okay, that literally has nothing to do with this video or song, that is jamming by the way, from Tiny Hearts. Jeedo is fucking underrated as shit and this Stay EP that dropped on the 17th is so good. Aron Kantor directed, edited, and did some cinematography on this mind fuck and you should watch it because, well, who doesn’t like to get fucked in their mind? Exactly. Don’t sleep - Original Mattress

"Okayplayer- DeDe X Waajeed “Phantom” (Remix)"

Our man Waajeed recently joined forces with Brooklyn-based indie-duo DeDe and created this spacious, atmospheric remix of their joint “Phantom.” Hit the jump to read what Jeedo had to say about how this project came about.

The irony of one of my happiest finds last year just happened to be in the worst place. Rent so high that all the real artists moved out, hipster heaven Williamburg, Brooklyn — The Burg.We were introduced by my homie JT Donaldson that I used to DJ with at the W Hotel in Union Square. I met Tim K there and later met his darling partner in crime, Dede Reynolds. Together they are DeDe.

One late night after several Cadillac margaritas inspired by Dam Funk, we stumbled back to their apartment where I heard their yet to be released project. WHOA! I asked to remix the single on the spot. That was the genesis of a brewing relation that would turn into a group (more about that later). In the meanwhile have a listen…Rejoice. -Jeedo

"Life is a Banana- TINY HEARTS – CENTERFOLD"

Tiny Hearts is the new collaborative from the veteran Detroit beatmaker Wajeed and the singers Dede and Tim K. The music sounds much more mellow and soulful than the usual stuff made by Wajeed stryctly destined for the hip-hop head.

"Up All Night- Stay - Tiny Hearts"

Los Angeles based artists, Tiny Hearts have all sorts of sounds going on with them and there the kind of sounds you won't be able to stop listening too. From their first EP Stay I wanted to share with you guys my favorite from the four track song list, "Stay" because the fact the song carries so much swag from beginning to end. The combination of the bass line and vocals deserve a round of applause on its own and when that chorus hits you'll lose yourself into song and find your thumb and pointer finger snapping back & forth non-stop.

It’s available now on Bandcamp for only $4 so head there now to make the purchase. - Super Superb

"Santa Cruz Bonkers Music Group- Tiny Hearts - Centerfold"

Waajeed, who now prefers to go by the name Jeedo, has been relatively quiet lately. Today, though, he breaks his silence with a slightly more refined project than what we have seen from the Detroit producer in the past. Teaming up with Dede and Tim K, the trio have formed Tiny Hearts. Their debut comes by way of single “Centerfold”, a transformative piece that sees contrasting sounds come together for a blissful listening experience. Track is taken from "Stay EP", out on Dirt Tech Reck on September 17th. Directed, Edited and Cinematography by Aron Kantor. - Santa Cruz Bonkers Music Group

"Grindin'- WAAJEED INTERVIEW"

Next month Robert O’Bryant aka Jeedo aka Waajeed meaning ‘finder’ or ‘seeker’ in Arabic will be touring Australia. Presented by Grindin’ there will be two shows in Melbourne and one in Sydney, Byron Bay and Adelaide. Jeedo is a man with his fingers in may pies, notably he is one half of Platinum Pied Pipers; Dirt Tech Reck is his record label; he was mentored by the late and great J Dilla; designed the cover for Slum Village’s Fantastic, Vol.2 album – he is also a visual artist (reader take a breather).
As a seeker, like his name suggests, he believes in musical progress. Kiwis Ladi 6 and Parks went and recorded their upcoming album with him in Detroit and he’s looking forward to do more work down under. After living in New York he’s now back home in Detroit he says, it’s so he can ‘defend and contribute to my community’. A more recent project of his has been with the duo, Tiny Hearts from Brooklyn. The three of them now have an upcoming EP titled Tiny Hearts Stay that’s steadily generating a demand on their Facebook page. What’s notable about interviewing Waajeed is that he lives and breathes his work. What’s refreshing about him is he’s not keen for people and their bullshit. He needs you to be open minded. He needs you to recognize that Detroit had Motown, but they also made Techno. He needs you not to be a snob and love music for the music and if you won’t, well then he expresses, you can fuck off. In the interview with Grindin’ we get an insight into what he observed of J Dilla and how his art and life, to him, are one and the same.
What can your fans expect from the “Tiny Hearts Stay” EP when it drops?
Nothing like they’ve heard from me previously. Progressive electronic genreless music........ - Grindin'

"Bringing Down the Band- Tiny Hearts “Centerfold” Video | @TinyHeartsMusic"

With football, Beats And Breakfast activities, and plumbing issues all filling up my day, I didn’t get around to sharing much of anything today until now. Tiny Hearts‘ Stay EP is going to be dope, and this video for the “Centerfold” track from the project was revealed a few days ago. I highly suggest you give this a listen/view and pre-order from Submerge. Check out some more info on Dede, Jeedo (Waajeed) and Tim K below. The cinematography, direction and editing was done by Aron Kantor. - Bringing Down the Band

"Sampleface- VIDEO: Tiny Hearts – Centerfold"

Waajeed aka Jeedo teams up with Dede and Tim K to form Tiny Hearts and this is the video for their latest synth-laden track, Centerfold.
We hope you’re still not sleeping on Waajeed. The Detroit-native has been spreading himself across a multitude of genres all the while keeping the music strong and expansive but this latest foray into electro-soul/R&B is quite robust. Jeedo has put together Tiny Hearts with pop duo DEDE (Deanne “Dede” Reynolds and Tim K) and their latest track and video, Centerfold, is refined in colour both musically and visually. The off-kilter synth lead works immensely with the acoustic drum beat and the kaleidoscopic scenery are the perfect backdrop for Dede’s echoey vocals. Really enjoyed this and I’m liking this direction for Jeedo.

- Sampleface

"This Kid is a Problem- TINY HEARTS: CENTERFOLD (VIDEO)"

When I say “Strictly For Headz Only” on a post it means this record is not for mainstream audiences because it’s too sophisticated for their ears thus they are not ready for it and maybe never will, but that said this song by US act Tiny Hearts just rocks. Tiny Hearts is Dede, Jeedo and Tim K. The track “Centerfold” is taken from their forthcoming Stay EP which is out on Dirt Tech Reck on the 17th September. - This Kid is a Problem

A chance meeting in a NY bar led singer DeDe Reynolds and producers, musicians Tim K and Waajeed of PPP / BLing47 to form the group Tiny Hearts. Check out the mystifying visual for their single “Centerfold” and be prepare for their debut Stay EP releasing Sept. 17th on Jeedo’s Dirty Tech Reck label. The vinyl will be a serious limited edition. - Kevin Nottingham

"Vice- SUB.CULTURE DETROIT: DETROIT TECH NOW"

Mainstream media always makes it seem like only bad things come from Detroit: urban decay, crime, bankruptcy, D12. But as any electronic music fan knows, Detroit is also a hotbed of creativity, passion, and promise. From the 1980s—when fellows like Juan Atkins and Derrick May ingested New Wave and Kraftwerk and spit out a template for what we know today as techno—to the present day, with new blood producers like Kyle Hall, Mark Flash, and Monty Luke creating forward-thinking tracks, Detroit continues to be a source of inspiration and power in the worldwide dance arena. In our SUB.Culture: Detroit series, we look at Motor City past, present, and future.

A star-studded cast—including Mark Flash and Jon Dixon of Underground Resistance, Jeedo (aka Waajeed), and H-Fusion and Aaron Siegel of FIT Records—appears in the third episode of our SUB.Culture Detroit series. In this video, we take to the Submerge building, the Dirt Tech Reck offices, and the streets to find out what's quaking with the most current crop of exciting electronic music producers calling Motor City home. Along the way, we find out what influences give music from Detroit its unique heart and soul. "Pressure can make diamonds or break pipes," explains Waajeed. Many diamonds in here for sure.

"ANTVALA- IN CONVERSATION | TINY HEARTS"

I knew Jeedo was in town so I had to grab him and his new project Tiny Hearts for a chat about this brilliant new project featuring Tim K and Dede. One of the magical moments for me to witness was hearing the three vibe off each other while I simply stood back and narrated. There was lots of energy and hearing the three talk about the creation process was informative. You get a sense the three are on a creative high and really really enjoy working with each other. Listen to the chat and go buy the EP! Links are below. I hope you enjoy this week’s chat w/ Tiny Hearts. - ANTVALA

"Okayplayer- Tiny Hearts In Conversation With Anthony Valadez"

Tiny Hearts take Anthony Valadez on a walk through their brand new Stay EP and the creative process that led to the birth of the project on the Antvala Podcast. Waajeed, Tim K and Dede describe their group as an equal partnership based upon trust and originality. The music built around Jeedo’s beats and Tim’s vocal production is a collection of sounds derived from their collective desire to push themselves to a place of discomfort. Evil and chaos take thematic precedence on the project driven by Dede’s beautifully ethereal vocal and a massive amount of blood, sweat and tears; Tiny Hearts have chosen to handle all of the production, art direction, sales and promotion of the project in-house. Check the track below to listen to the full discussion with Anthony Valadez and Tiny Hearts. Purchase Tiny Hearts’ Stay EP via Dirt Tech Reck.

"Okayfuture- Tiny Hearts’ Stay EP via Dirt Tech Reck"

Fresh off their Boiler Room LA debut last week, Tiny Hearts is bubbling with their debut Stay EP on Dirt Tech Reck.

Tiny Hearts is a collaboration born in Brooklyn between nomadic soul vocalist Dede, jazz composer/songwriter Tim K and Jeedo a/k/a Waajeed of Platinum Pied Pipers and Slum Village lineage.

The trio is soundly in the intersection of soul and electronic production elements; playing with the balance of dark and light, hard and soft. “Centerfold” stands out as a showcase of the sound that Waajeed really developed in his Platinum Pied Piper days with Georgia Anne Muldrow and Tiombe Lockhart (of Cubic Zirconia).

The project travels into unchartered territory with “Snowcold,” “Calling” and “Stay,” which has awesome pitch adjust and some autotune/melodyne vocal effects that were tweaked to sweet perfection. Loving the hook, it is so obscured that it leaves the exact words up for interpretation. Today it could be: “Tell me when to stay/never let go.” Tomorrow it could morph into something else. Great complex layers on these moody anthems. - Okayfuture

"Pigeons and Planes -STREAM TINY HEARTS’ “STAY” EP"

With roots in New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit, trio Tiny Hearts–consisting of singer Dede Reynolds, producer Tim K, and J Dilla affiliate Waajeed–pulls together influences from the cities that spurred its growth.

Packed with buzzing post-Dilla basslines, snapping, swung drums, dreamy synth textures, and a loosely jazzy sensibility, Tiny Hearts’ Stay EP grafts a thumping, modern backbone on its lounge pop, perfect for a late night spent alone or for the loudest speaker system you can find. Clocking in at just under 16 minutes, Stay does more than enough to whet the appetite and leave room for more, a succinct statement of a well-honed sound that recalls retro-futuristic groups like J*Davey while carving a distinctive tribute to the locales that birthed and groomed its creators.

Stay impresses by feeling full without being overstuffed or confused, clear and comfortable in its identity from the opening notes of the title track. Stream it below and buy it on the group’s Bandcamp if you’re so inclined. - Pigeons and Planes

1. Janet Jackson + Phantogram = Tiny Hearts
Asked to describe Los Angeles trio Tiny Hearts' sound in three words, vocalist Dede Reynolds offered "gritty, icy, evil." There's certainly something glacial and emotionally detached about the band's new single "Snow Cold." - Zimbio

"TINY HEARTS’ SNOW COLD"

Electronic Trio of Tiny Hearts presents nothing minute about their sound with the greatness that is Waajeed injecting the smoothest of all undertones throughout. "5 Songs We Can't Stop Listening To"

Tiny Hearts- Snow Cold

The song Snow Cold by Tiny Hearts sounds like something that you might hear at a basement listening party of an electronic producer after you had drinks at a bar under the J train in New York. That is probably because that is how the group Tiny Hearts was formed in 2012. After their premier on BBC1 in the same year, they have been featured on KCRW, NPR, and 88Nine’s own Are You Feeling This?. Dede Reynolds ice cold voice makes this song as cool as it can be. Though we’re a little late, the Potholes team will always show love to the trio of Tiny Hearts. “Snow Cold” is their latest video from their fantastic Stay EP (I wrote about it here, back in October). While their first two videos took a more evocative surreal art house approach, their third video opts for the minimal and abstract. LA by way of Detroit and NYC electric trio Tiny Hearts drops a stirring visual for “Snow Cold” their latest drop from their recently released Stay EP. "BEST INDIE SONGS - WEEK 8"

Introducing Brooklyn trap hop trio, Tiny Hearts. No, that isn't a typo. I genuinely meant to type trap hop. It's okay, you can have that one. Although explain to me why this only has 290 views on YouTube? Half of which belong to BitCandy. All your views belong to us! I can't help it, this has to be the most infectious song I've heard this year. Be right back, I'm going to play it over again. - Bit Candy

"Tiny Hearts “Snow Cold” Video"

Even in today’s internet age, in which “different” is the in-thing, you’ll be hard-pressed to find an EP as unique as this one. This Detroit collective blends genres, breaks rules, steps out of the box, etc. The production on this EP can best be described as “dream-like”. If you’re looking for something new to vibe to, this is perfect. - Sicker Than Your Average

Bio

Tiny Hearts is a collaborative sonic emulsification between music makers Waajeed, Dede Reynolds, and Tim K. Representing origins of Detroit, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn, the groups diverse sound reflects influence of trip hop, trap and electronic music. The trio met at a bar beneath the J-train in New York City in 2009. After rounds of cadillac margaritas, invisible hands led them to a basement studio on the south side for a late night listening session. Resulting remixes led to original mixes, and the group was formed. Voices from beyond, esoteric concepts and milkshake metrics all played a role in this groups' fruition. The result: a reflection of intention.

Waajeed, a founding member of Detroits Slum Village and Platinum Pied Pipers, was in a period of deep introspection when he met Brooklyn duo DEDE (Dede Reynolds, Tim K). As a key figure in the collaboration, he shapes the sonic palette now known as Tiny Hearts.

Dede Reynolds, a freethinking chanteuse, contributes her icy/pure vocal texture, creating the stark contrast to Waajeed's gritty tracks that defines the sound. Her love of French pop, vintage fashion, and Italian horror shapes the auditory and visual representations of the band.

Tim K., is a composer and producer with classical jazz training who has contributed his two cents to Les Nubians, Esthero, Dam Funk, and numerous others. His lyrics, melodies and curators vision bring together the extreme temperatures needed to form this unique alloy.

Tiny Hearts first debuted on Benji B's BBC radio show in late 2012. Word-of-mouth yielded further support from KCRWs (including Garth Trinidad, Anthony Valadez and Aaron Byrd), KEXP, NPR, BBC 1, East Village Radio and countless others worldwide.

Stay, the first EP from Tiny Hearts, is the result of two years of trans-continental collaboration and friendship. The four-song debut is as hard as it is soft, as Detroit as it is L.A., equally well suited for seriously getting down or not-so-seriously kicking back with a glass of something. Blog giant Pigeons & Planes featured single "Stay" as a song of the week. Bandcamp featured the release on their weekly podcast, and Okayplayer streamed the EP upon it's release. The trio performed and previewed the EP in an invite only Boiler Room session at LA's HVW8 gallery on September 2013.

The band has spent most of 2014 in a deep studio incubation period working on their first full length debut, to be released in early 2015.
