Cambridge, MA – If you devotedly watch "Seventh Heaven" reruns, you've heard it. If you just can't get enough of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, you probably hum it in your sleep. But even if you were just surfing channels, you probably heard the title track from Fooled By April's self-released EP, Nice to See You, which recently became the soundtrack to ABC Family's promotion of its fall line-up. The ad for "Smallville" and "Gilmore Girls" ran on every channel on the dial, from ABC and NBC all the way to ESPN and the Cartoon Network.

Perhaps it's an unlikely spot for FXA, but the band has always defied easy categorization. Some describe them as the bastard sons of Cheap Trick and Fountains Of Wayne, while others compare them to what the Clash might have been had they listened to a lot more KISS. Perhaps the most apt label that has been applied to them is "Hi-Fi Garage," acknowledging that as much as they bring a ragged rock-and-roll enthusiasm to their music, it is always tempered by the need to get those four-part harmonies just right.

In addition to the many TV and film placements through MTV, Sony, Disney and several independents, the EP (produced by Whiskeytown's Mike Daly) has turned some heads by being the #1 seller on CDBaby.com in its first two weeks and a continuous top-seller since, and as one of the top ten most added records in the country in its first week at radio, later breaking into the CMJ Top 200. Not too shabby for an unsigned band doing it all on their own.

Meanwhile, Fooled By April continues promoting their record the way they always have, with relentless touring of the Northeast and Midwest—a schedule that has already brought them to showcases at the CMJ Music Festival in New York City, the NEMO Festival in Boston and the prestigious South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX. And this January the band is back in the studio in Brooklyn, preparing their next release for the spring, which promises to be even stronger than their debut.

Fooled By April, a Boston quartet, is such a band. Incredibly poppy -- and crafted with pleasant hooks - the band's self-released CD, "Fooled By April," is radio-friendly rock at its warmest and most accessible. Fooled By April -- Jordan (drums), Pete (bass), Joe (guitar) and Gordon (vocals) -- strips it down by playing up the vocals and keeping the melodies simple and emotional. "Nobody Knows" is an excellent blast of FM sugar. Featuring cool lyrics and an understated rhythm section, it is honest and forthright. The up-tempo "Don't Want You Around" has echoes of the Ramones and XTC. It is rich with pop edges and would fit in on every Boston station from WBOS 92.9 to KISS 108. "Come In, Chicago" is crafted with a "less is more" approach. The sound is stripped down, placing heavy emphasis on Gordon's excellent vocals. Fooled By April constructs songs that are direct and catchy. In short, the band boasts modern pop music played with energy and feeling. It would be wise to keep tabs on these guys; they're probably going to be very well known someday.

Setlist

Our sets generally consist of eleven (11) originals and, depending on the venue, one (1) or two (2) covers (e.g. The Who, The Pixies, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Rufus Wainwright, Big Star, and more depending on venue...). Set time is generally 40 - 45 minutes, but we can easily play up to two hours.
