Artist Information

Biography

Four years ago, RAIN was an acronym for Regal, Angelic, Intelligent Nubian. The Norwalk, Connecticut powerhouse (about 5 feet 2 inches, in height) burst onto the local music scene reeking havoc. First showing off her lyrical ability on industry instrumentals, Rain came with a harsh and deliberate attack on the music industry, with the freestyle record, called "Come High". She then released her own original record, "Thuggz LuvHer". The song went number 1 in Connecticut, for ten consecutive weeks.

The fact that Rain could re-vamp some of the hottest hip hop instrumentals, and yet, create original music that held its own against the mainstream, earned her the title of "CT's 1rst Lady of Hip Hop, RnB Soul". The Connecticut music pool DJ's embraced her with open arms, hoping the world would do the same.

Today, "Rain" defines her name as a woman of action, one who "gives in abundance".

Perhaps, the change in meaning can be supported by her resume. Rain has worked side-by-side with Oscar Nominated, Will Smith on a music project for 8 months. She has opened for several major artists (Ja Rule, Ne-Yo, Jagged Edge, Juelz Santana, Kurtis Blow, Brand Nubian, Young Buck) and starred, as a cast member, for Grammy Winner, Murphy Lee's (Nelly's St. Lunatics) reality TV show, "Da Grind". She has performed on multiple occasions, at world renowned venues, such as: Toads Place of New Haven, CT, and Sounds of Brazil (S.O.B's) in New York.

One could say, it is her recent coronation, by the Connecticut Holla Back Music Video Awards, as the 2008 "Best Female RnB Artist of The Year", that helps define her talent as a generous gift to all who hear it.

She has supplied her supporters with an album, a mini-magazine, an Underground Music Award Nomination for "Most Promising Female Singer of 2008", and a win on BET's 106 & Park Wild Out Wednesday Competition, all in one year!

Still, whatever the reason for re-defining "Rain", it is obvious that she has plenty to offer the world of music.

Rain's voice is able to comfort, excite, chastise, and coax with every coo and hum. She has a unique soulful, jazzy vocal style. Part R&B, part hip-hop, part classic soul, in equal measure. Her music is a unique blend of solid RnB melodies, classic soul harmonies, and clever hip-hop lyrics, offering something fresh, interesting, and compelling to music-lovers everywhere!

With the release of her second album "The Grey Area..." (currently available on Myspace.com/IamRain2) Rain has proven that she will not stop showering listeners with beautiful music. Growing more powerful by the moment, her sophomore album speaks volumes over her debut, "eavesdrop..." (currently available on iTunes). Both records, however, are a cut above the norm and a testament to her consistency as a singer, song writer and performer who is willing to continue growing.

With Rick Steel and Buck 3000, of Murder Inc. Records affiliation, on the production and mixes, respectively; "The Grey Area..." has 8 undeniable tracks. The album was recorded in the Murder Inc. Studios, and Rain is said to have outdone herself, but still hasn't sat down to enjoy it.

Instead, Rain's future is in her new nickname, "The Lady Bug". She has shed her dreadlocks of 6 years, to prepare for her third album, "Sincerely, Ms. Raphael...(The Lady Bug Album)" This third album can be described as an effort possessing the soul and grace of a modern day Billie Holiday, in jeans. Promising to deliver true stories from the life of a woman who has endured many growing pains.
She plans to take a new approach to music, ever changing and evolving, but always "giving in abundance". Supplying her fans with meaty lyrics, chunky musicality and heavy swagger. It's a lot to swallow, to say the least...but fulfilling for those who try!

For, "Into each life, some Rain must fall..."

  • "The Grey Area..." is Rain's sophomore release. Currently available on iTunes, the album is said to be her "best- work- to-date." Having worked with The Inc Record's producer, Rick Steel ("Sunset" - Ja Rule ft The Game and Stefani- "The Mirror") and recorded the entire album in The Murder Inc Studios, Rain promises an undeniable penned masterpiece; and some of the most honest, and romantically controversial topics. But this is still too current. Let's take it back to the begining. Read on...

  • Rain stepped on scene in 2004, with sassy singles like "Thuggz LuvHer" and bangin' mixtape singles like "Come High". Though lyrically competitive and sometimes vicious, Rain's music balanced her writing with soft soothing vocals that hover over a high hat, making a complex style that is all her own.

  • "Come High's" edge rocketed Rain's original myspace views into the thousands. The buzz attracted big names. So, while filming "The Pursuit of Happyness", Will Smith asked Rain to join him on a music project, but after 8 months the deal fell through.

  • But when one door closes on the determined, another opens promptly after. In 2006 Rain was asked to represent the East. The show was for five rappers, but Rain was an exception. She brought her lyricality and beautiful melodies to a reality TV series called "Da Grind"- Hosted by Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics. (The pilot was shot and has not been picked up.)

  • In between all the highs and lows and openings for major artists (Ja Rule, Ne-Yo, Jagged Edge, Juelz Santana, Kurtis Blow, Cormega, Young Buck etc.), Rain RaphaeL managed to uncover a softer side of her and show off her vocal range, with the release of her debut album, "eavesdrop..." Now available on iTunes!

  • Refusing to be still, Rain made her bubbly infectious personality, matched with swag and vocal poise, known to the WORLD on November 7th 2007! Crowned 106 & Park's Winner of the "Wild Out Wednesday" Talent competition!
