Joe is an award-winning Nova Scotia-based lyricist and songwriter.

In 2005, Joe was awarded the Grand Prize in the first song and lyric competition he entered. His contemporary country love ballad, Picture This, won the Grand Prize in the 2005 Nashville International Song and Lyric Competition.

Picture This tells the compelling musical tale about the power of love between two people as seen through their photographs that chronicle their twenty years together. Listening to Picture This is like being a fly on the wall (visit the audio button on Joe's EPK to listen to demo). You get to witness the verbal exchange between two people whose love for each other has stood the test of time -- and they have the pictures to prove it.

INDUSTRY TOUTS 'PICTURE THIS' AND OTHER DOIRON SONGS

In 2006, the prestigious Unisong International Song Contest based in Hollywood gave the nod of approval to two of Joe's songs, Picture This and January June. The latter is another original haunting love ballad, the demo for which was recorded in Nashville (visit the audio button on Joe's EPK to listen to demo). January June juxtaposes the cold and hot times that every love relationship must weather. Lucky for us, the melody is hot.

Both songs won 'Honorable Mention' in the Country Category, which received over 700 entries in 2006. UNISONG representatives noted that achieving " ... two Honorable Mentions out of that many entries is no small feat."

Also in early 2006, Picture This was selected by Los Angeles-based Songwriter Universe Magazine -- overseen by industry heavy-hitter Dale Kawashima -- as one of 'Five Best Songs of the Month' for February, 2006 (Visit www.songwriteruniverse.com/contestwinner31.htm to listen).

NASHVILLE'S 'CATCH A RISING STAR'

High Society was just nominated by a panel of Nashville-based music industry professionals to appear on a Compilation CD that profiles a select group of promising new songs and songwriters. Titled Catch a Rising Star, the 2008 CD is in production and will be promoted to music industry professionals. This is Joe's THIRD nomination to Catch A Rising Star; Picture This (2005) and January June (2006) were also nominated to appear as one of twenty top new country songs on this annual Catch A Rising Star Compilation CD.

A GROWING CATALOGUE OF ORIGINAL SONGS

Joe's depth as a lyricist and songwriter is like the proverbial well that springs eternal. His growing catalogue of original songs include 'Make Me a Minor Miracle', which makes you ache for the songs varied subjects whose grip on life is held firm only by their faith -- and the song's excellent arrangement. Other lyrics and songs like 'Hurry Up and Break My Heart', 'Forbidden', 'Start With a Step', 'Days Like These', 'Venus and Mars', 'Easy Street', 'We All Need Friends', 'Maritime Home' and many others make it clear that this songwriter has much to say through his music.   July 19, 2006, Halifax, NOVA SCOTIA: The 2005 UNISONG International Song Contest sees lots of potential in the songwriting of Joe Doiron (pronounced 'Door-on'), a Nova Scotia-based lyricist and songwriter of contemporary country and folk music.
  
  Two of Joe's songs were recently given the nod as 'Honorable Mentions' in the Country Category of the 2005 UNISONG contest -- which rivals the International Songwriting Contest, or 'ISC', as one of the planets most prestigious song and lyric contests. Visit .
  
  Picture This -- which also won the Grand Prize in the 2005 Nashville International Song and Lyric Competition -- and January June, both contemporary country love ballads, were recognized as being among the top entries in this year's competition.
  
  Alan Roy Scott from UNISONG, a multiple award-winning songwriter, underscored the importance of this recognition. "Country (the category) has been and always is one of our most popular categories with more entries than almost any other category. And this year was no exception with over 700 entries in Country alone. So two Honorable Mentions out of that many entries is no small feat", said Scott.
  
  Only a very small percentage of overall entries make it to the winners circle (either top 4 winners, finalists or honorable mentions).
  
  January June was recently selected by Nashville music industry professionals to appear on a Compilation CD profiling 20 top new country songs and songwriters for 2006. Titled 'Catch A Rising Star', the CD will be promoted to industry executives this fall. Picture This also made the grade in 2005 and was included on the 2005 'Catch A Rising Star' CD release.
  
  Joe -- a member of the Songwriter's Association of Canada, Canadian Country Music Association and SOCAN -- is focused on getting his contemporary country songs covered by other performing artists and is actively seeking a single-song publishing agreement with a reputable music publisher.

  May 16, 2006: Two reputable U.S.-based song and lyric competitions have recently given 'Picture this...May 16, 2006: Two reputable U.S.-based song and lyric competitions have recently given 'Picture this' high marks in separate song evaluations, rating the song for lyrics, melody, structure/composition and overall commercial appeal. Here's a summary:
  
  6th ANNUAL NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL (NSAI) SONG CONTEST
  
  Out of ten criteria for judging songs with hit potential Picture This scored a minimum of 8 out of 10 in all ten categories, where 10 is 'excellent'.
  
  Picture This was judged to have a " ... strong opening line which grabs the listener, logically leading to the chorus and end of the song" (9 points).
  
  NSAI judges describe Joe's lyrics as " ... descriptive, clear and understandable, building on the theme of the song" (9 points).

  December 13, 2005 – Dartmouth-based songwriter and MIANS member Joe Doiron has caught a rising star. And it’s shining on his award-winning song, Picture This.
  
  In March, 2005, Picture This was awarded the Grand Prize in the Nashville International Song and Lyric Competition. Fast on the heels of this success, Picture This was nominated by a panel of Nashville-based music industry professionals to appear on a Limited Edition CD that profiles a select group promising new songwriters. Titled Catch a Rising Star, the CD profiles up-and-coming songwriters and their songs, all covered by an eclectic group of Nashville-based performing artists.
  
  Catch a Rising Star is now in limited circulation in the U.S and in Canada.
  
  Picture This, a contemporary country love ballad, tells the compelling musical tale of the power of love between two people as seen through their photographs that chronicle their twenty years together. Listening to Picture This is like being a fly on the wall. You bare witness to the verbal exchange between two people whose love for each other has past the proverbial test of time -- and they have the pictures to prove it.
  
  What’s next for Doiron? "Being relatively new to the songwriting scene, my focus now is to use this recognition out of Nashville to shine a light on some of my other songs, many of which I feel are equally as good”, says Doiron.
  
  Examples include Doiron's haunting love ballad, January June, which juxtaposes the cold and hot times that every love relationship must weather. Make Me a Minor Miracle, a tune that chronicles life's everyday struggles, makes you ache for the songs varied subjects whose grip on life is held fast only by their faith -- and the song's excellent arrangement.   “My goal in 2006 is twofold," says Doiron. "I plan to get out there so my songs can be heard and back that up with a web site. In addition, my aim is to have Picture This covered by a household name in contemporary country music. I feel it coming just around the corner.”

  MIANS songwriter/singer Joe Doiron of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia was recently awarded the 'Grand Prize' in the 2005 Nashville International Song and Lyric Competition for his song 'Picture This.'
  
  The Nashville International Song and Lyric Competition is organized by the prestigious Paramount Group, located in the United Artists Complex in the heart of Nashville's famous 'Music Row'. Since 1983 Paramount has invited aspiring songwriters from around the world to compete for cash prizes and the chance to have their songs professionally recorded and promoted to some of Nashville's top music publishers, record producers and other music business professionals.
  
  Picture This, a compelling musical tale about the power of love between two people as seen through their photographs that capture their twenty years together, won the Grand Prize over hundreds of other entries from North America and abroad. With input from Joe who wrote both lyrics and melody, Picture This will be professionally recorded in Nashville this spring in time for Paramount executives to market the song to well-known international performing artists, record producers and music publishers who are getting ready for summer recording sessions.
  
  Joe also has entered into a songwriting contract with Paramount Group to have several other of his songs recorded and promoted in 2005.
  
  Joe's songs will be profiled on his new web site which will be ready in 2006. Check back with MIANS for news of its launch.
  
  Joe's songs are an eclectic range of folk, roots, pop rock and contemporary country that reflect the social fabric of our region.
