Artist Information
Biography
Written from the gut with relatable lyrics and tasty musical hooks, Jessica's sound is contagious. Routed in pop traditions and nurtured by bad behaviour, she pulls from confessions, lives lived and loves lost and found.
November 2012 - Aachen, Germany. Recording commenced on her third studio album. Canadian and European releases are scheduled for March of 2013.
Jessica's latest single, “Warning Signs,” co-writen and recorded with Producer Jeff Dawson, (Daniel Powter, State of Shock, The Dudes) was announced as a finalist in the 2011 International Songwriting Competition for the Adult Contemporary category. "Warning Signs" shows a more pop-centric side of Jessica and trended well on AC Radio.
She has opened for notable bands such as Headley, Wanting Qu, Simple Plan, Mobile, Lily Frost and SilverSun Pickups.
Her recent exploration into co-writing with the SAC landed Jessica a placement with international Asian pop stars S.H.E. who recorded and released the song "Take Me" (Shouliú wo) on their 2010 album "Shero". Their 2010 album was the third best selling album in Taiwan, with over 120,000 copies sold.
With comparisons to artists like Fiona Apple, Adele and Amy Winehouse, her sound is well-received on both commercial and campus radio.
BACKGROUND
Growing up, she was exposed to a broad range of music - everything from skate punk to club dub.
As a child Jessica could often be found lying under the stereo, belting out tunes along with Sam Cooke and Linda Ronstadt. At age five, her father rescued a piano from a church basement and refinished it in their garage, allowing Jessica to channel her creative energy.
As a teenager she bounced across the country between Victoria and Toronto before landing in the middle, making her home in Calgary. There she began recording demos with a local producer at Organic Sounds Studio, releasing her first independent EP in 2003.
In 2004, she won Calgary's 'Unsigned Vibe' contest, allowing her to record her Sticky Hands album and produce three music videos for the singles; "Change," "The World" and "Sticky Hands." The album's 2006 commercial debut obtained national distribution in Canada, charted radio airplay and video play on Much Music and MuchMore Music.
Jessica’s 2009 studio release, For Your Protection gained continued radio airplay and demonstrated the consistent strength of her songwriting.
Jessica has established a diverse catalogue of music throughout her career that represents her growth as both a songwriter and performing artist.
