Artist Information

Biography

UK jazz guitarist Neil C Young is a gifted guitarist who is establishing his unique talent internationally and in 2011 received a Grammy Award nomination in the improvised jazz solo category..

Incorporating aspects of bands led by John Scofield, Keith Jarrett, George Benson and Pat Metheny, his music is ‘full of soul and energy’ and, ‘the arrangements are beautiful’, writes Eric Elias from the US magazine “Just Jazz Guitar Magazine”.

Neil uses a raw combination of expression and technique across a variety of influences and styles from Be-bop to bossa with a hint of his Rock roots. With the solo Jazz Guitar at its heart, his music is ‘harmonically sophisticated’ said Bill Milkowski (writer of the biography of Jaco Pastorius) in his 2011 review of the last album ‘Where’s yours?’

The Neil C. Young Trio released ‘El Camino’ in the autumn of 2011, the follow up to the acclaimed ‘Where’s yours?’ and is set for distribution through Canadian American Records (U.S.A) and WOA Records (India.)

One of his original compositions, 'Next', featured on the WOA Records’ popular Goa Chillout Zone Volume 2 which reached the heights of number 2 in the Indian Album Charts in October 2009 and since then has had regular airplay on Indian commercial radio with singles from his last 2 albums which were released by Canadian American Records (US)

In a contemporary musical climate which is often overcrowded with an eclectic range of guitar styles, Neil not only acknowledges these various influences, but also displays an in-depth knowledge of performance and composition, which were key to his studies with Gary Boyle and with Fred T Baker at renowned Birmingham Conservatoire.

Away from the confines of the studio, the Neil C Young Trio are a tight, exciting and fresh live outfit, and performances feature beautiful harmonic interpretations of both standards, and original compositions.
