Biography

The DB Bryant Band, is a guitar-oriented band from Possum Hollow, SC. One of the BEST original, independent, nationally touring bands around and they're mezmerising audiences all over the U.S. with his incredible guitar skills and soulful southern vocals! You can’t really put D. B.‘s music into one genre, he's blues, southern rock and rockin' country all rolled into one! D. B. Bryant is a producer, songwriter and master of guitar, having played since age 7 and has been performing with (his) Brother Willie (who plays bass) since age 9. Rounding out the trio on drums is "Paul", hailing from "Bluegrass Kentucky"! During his musical journey D. B. has opened for many national artists such as Kid Rock, Big & Rich, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Montgomery-Gentry, etc. Currently performing at various events around the U.S., the DB Bryant Band has just released their fourth national CD entitled, "Time is the Road". The best thing about D. B.'s original music is that it's straight ahead, feel good music with a positive message, unlike so much of what we hear today. With a voice like Paul Rodgers of Bad Company or Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd and a talent for playing guitar like all of the greats you've ever heard, this is a musician and a show you won't want to miss!   Southern country rock! Three different types of music, that when blended together strikes you in the...Southern country rock! Three different types of music, that when blended together strikes you in the soul and makes you want to crank the stereo to ten, roll the windows up and rock out. Bands like Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker; you get where I am going with this.
  
  Southern rock is strong in Columbia. The D.B. Bryant Band is playing all over Columbia throughout the first half of the month. These guys are true southern boys from just up the road in Winnsboro and have been playing around since 2001. D.B along with Brother Willie and Paul released their first cd in 2003, The Bud Album, and have followed that up with three more releases. Their last cd ‘Time Is The Road’ was released in 2009 and includes some rocking originals and a great remake of Steve Earle’s ‘Copperhead Road’.
  
  You can catch The D.B. Bryant Band all around the area and up to Lake Wylie in The Piedmont through the middle of February before they head down to Daytona for Bike Week. If you are planning on heading to the beach in March, you can catch these guys at bike week on the Carolina Coast as well. They will be playing from Myrtle Beach to Garden City through the middle of March.
  Their energetic live shows and strong southern rock and country influences have attracted the attention of some of the biggest artists in country music. Over the last few years these guys have opened for David Allan Coe, Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special, The Wreckers, Montgomery-Gentry and Big & Rich among other great bands.
  
  Not only has The D. B. Bryant Band been successfully touring and producing their own music at D.B.’s studio up in Possum Hollow, in 2008, their music was featured in the movie “Boys Of Summerville”. The comedy that depicts the softball obsessed South Carolina town was a feature selection in the Delray Beach Film Festival. The movie features The D.B. Bryant Band’s ‘Back to the Country’, ‘Blind Man’, and ‘Always Rainin’, and will be released to video in March of 2010.
  
  So if you’re hanging out at home or heading to the beach and are looking for some great live music, look for The D.B. Bryant Band and get ready to rock out southern style.

  Formed about 10 years ago, DB Bryant has been wowing audiences and tearing up the rally circuit with...Formed about 10 years ago, DB Bryant has been wowing audiences and tearing up the rally circuit with their performances at motorcycle events across the nation. A great high energy show, these guys really know how to please a biker crowd and it's always a pleasure to pull into a rally and see them booked for the weekend. Their music is kind of hard to describe... it's like souped up Southern Rock with a touch of Blues and a slamming guitar all rolled up into one tight package.
  
  Right now the guys are currently in studio working hard on their new CD with a March 2010 release date, but I can't tell you what it is because the title is still a closely guarded secret. I did manage to tease out of DB that their new single ''Soaking it up'' will be on the as yet un-named new album... but that was about it. Judging from the last four DB Bryant CD's, I'll bet it's going to be well worth the wait.
  
  You can tell DB Bryant are real pros and have been playing the motorcycle circuit for quite some time. They've got some really good stories from over the years like the show they played in Washington DC where a full fledged riot broke out. Tables and chairs flying all over the place in a giant brawl that looked like something straight from a movie. At first DB tried to appeal to the crowd to stop, but finally just gave up and sat back and enjoyed the riot. What else could he do? Besides, how many times does the band get to sit back and watch the show instead of the other way around? So after a while of complete mayhem finally a couple of hundred riot cops in full gear showed up, busted some heads and cleared the building.
  
  DB Bryant is definately a cut above the regular bands that you usually get at shows, just hearing that they'll be playing a rally tells me it's going to be one great party. I've seen these guys play over and over again at different events over the years and never get tired of their music... they're just that kind of band. And they're all cool guys. The CDs are good of course, but DB really shines on stage during a live concert. If you ever get half a chance to see them play don't pass it up, I promise that if you enjoy Southern Rock you're going to love these guys!

  I caught the D.B. Bryant Band at House of Blues during Bike Week. If you like hard charging, Southe...I caught the D.B. Bryant Band at House of Blues during Bike Week. If you like hard charging, Southern Rock, then your life has no meaning until you see D.B. live. D.B. ripped into action and in no time his white hot licks had shredded the faces off every drunk Redneck in the front row. D.B. never looked down at his fretboard as he melted the crowd with lightning fast chops that seared the denim into the skin of each victim who was close enough to be exposed to the sonic blast issuing from D.B.’s Marshall amps. After the fourth song, the entire floor was just a slick mess of molten denim, leather, and cowboy hats. When I die, I want to be cremated by one of D.B.’s riffs. Just place my lifeless body in front of D.B’s amp, and in less than a second I will be reduced to a steaming pile of ashes.
  I’ve heard a lot of guitar players and I’ve seen a lot of guitars players but I’ve never seen or heard one like D.B. He ruled his Strat with an iron pick and he never quit bringing it. Along with the life-altering riffs, D.B. did a great job of slinging lyrics and his band was excellent too. He even played The Bud Song, whereby he uses an empty Bud bottle to play the notes on his Strat thereby proving that even if you cut his hands off and poked his eyes out he’d still play guitar a thousand times better than you ever could, so just shut up and listen!
  What I’m saying, you dense idiot, is that you need to get off your sofa and get your ass in gear and go see D.B. so that when you die at least you’ll have done one thing right, one thing worth remembering.
  
  With all the bullshit our country has been through thanks to our bullshit government, it’s nice to see that something is still made in America, something nobody else in the world does better, and that’s down-home, gritty, soul-charging rock baby!!!

  Some bands have this knack. Before the first song is even over, you get an incredible urge to grab y...Some bands have this knack. Before the first song is even over, you get an incredible urge to grab your guitar, plug in and rock along with the music. The D.B, Bryant Band has this knack, as amply demonstrated on their self-titled CD, which is filled with blistering rock as only this South Carolina based group can dish it out. It may remind you a little of a one-guitar Molly Hatchet at first, as guitarist/vocalist Bryant's voice slightly reminiscent of their late lead singer, Danny Joe Brown. Bryant's brother Willie handles bass duties for the trio, and a dude named Paul mans the skins. In addition to picking up their guitar-soaked CD, be sure to look for them at the House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, as they've played there almost 20 times in the past.
  D.B. began playing guitar at age seven in Possum Hollow, S.C. just around the corner from Winnsboro. He started performing professionally at age nine. D.B. played local nightclubs every weekend while in school. He left U.S.C. on his 18th birthday to play on the road full time. The band was called Hi-O-Silver. He toured the Southeast for three years gigging six nights a week. Later relocating to Texas for seven years, he toured nationally most of that time. D.B. eventually started the band Elijah Prophet and released two CDs. This band opened for Alice Cooper, Molly Hatchet, .38 Special, Blue Oyster Cult, Robin Trower, Mark Farner's Grand Funk Railroad and others. DB recently started the The D.B. Bryant Band with his brother Will. In addition to their self-titled CD (and its predecessor "The Bud Album"), they are working on Elijah Prophet's third CD. D.B. is also recording a solo acoustic CD and plays his well used '75 Stratocaster every week in the Carolinas.
  
  Currently, the D.B, Bryant Band is branching out into other states, playing biker events, music festivals, and racing events, while continuing to open for many national acts. They also recently signed with CSI South.

  This year has been a breakout year for the DB Bryant Band: their first nationally distributed CD was...This year has been a breakout year for the DB Bryant Band: their first nationally distributed CD was released on the CSI South label over the summer. "We recorded songs from throughout the band's history as a sort of "best-of" introduction to the band," Bryant says. "Carolina Moon", for example, was written 10 years ago. "64 Miles From Memphis", I wrote with two of the guys who were in Elijah Prophet with me. Chris Cash, another co-writer, was in Probable Cause." The disc has been a great selling point for the band as they play in various places around the country, but Bryant acknowledges that the folks back home are itching for some new material. "I do want to put out a new one soon for all of our local fans at least; they've heard these songs for a long time and they deserve to get some new music from us." The band recently played the huge 11-day Milwaukee Summerfest in Wisconsin for the second year in a row; opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd on a day when cameras from the CMT cable network were in the audience. Bands like Skynyrd, Van Zant and Shooter Jennings, in Bryant's opinion, are kindred spirits for the rocking country blues stomp 'n' roll that his band plays. "We've shopped our version of Charlie Daniel's "Long Haired Country Boy" to country markets this year," Bryant says. "With CMT especially, the country crowd is moving more toward country rock." Lest his hardcore rock fans suspect he's going soft, however, Bryant emphasizes that, "We're not ever going to go completely country. The country sound is something we've always had a little of, and the genre is coming to us, we're not doing anything different to get it."
  Bryant hasn't been doing anything different for a long time now, leaving behind a string of bands like Probable Cause and Elijah Prophet before coming up with the current power-trio lineup of the DB Bryant Band. Bryant's brother Willie has been his bass player for almost all of that time, something DB says has made the years of playing the club scene a family affair. "We've been playing together since we were kids, and he's been with me since we started this band," Bryant says. "We get along pretty well for brothers -- we may have some disagreements but we don't get into fistsights or anything." Motorcycles and rock 'n' roll have gone together since the days of "Easy Rider" and Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild," but for Bryant, hooking up with the Harley set has been a good, if accidental, fit. "We have done a lot of bike rallies lately," Bryant says. "We played the big one down in Daytona Beach the last three years, we're in Myrtle Beach during bike week every year, and we have played Easyriders Rodeo shows in Atlanta, Charlotte and Chillicothe, Ohio last week opening for Jackyl." It's not like the members of the DB Bryant Band are die-hard biking enthusiasts, however. "I'm the only one in the band that even rides a bike," Bryant says. "We're not the kind of band that plays a lot of biker bars either -- the people going to the rallies just happen to like our brand of down-to-earth, blue-collar music." Old stereotypes about that scene don't hold a lot of water lately, either, he says. "It's no longer the same crowd riding the bikes. The demographic now is anywhere from 25 to 50, with doctors and lawyers along with the old-timers. That's pretty much the same age that likes our style of rock 'n' roll, whether they ride a motorcycle or not.

  It's an insight acquired from the handful of well-known bike events--including both the spring & fall rallies in both Myrtle Beach and Daytona Bike week--they're regularly booked to play each year.
  
  The crowds that come out to the rallies are regular down-to-earth people says David "DB" Bryant. "The biker thing is different now. It's not just Hell's Angels but doctors and lawyers that are still into rock music that are coming out. You;ll find more honest people at the rallies than you do at nightclubs."
  
  Luckily, it's the sounds of this South Carolina-based, guitar-driven rock that seems to be the particular brand of music that these bike rally attendees are still into.

Great guitar, bass and drums. My favorite tracks were Carolina Moon, Blind Man, Shine and Time To Ride. Commercially though the Bud Song and the Charlie Daniels remake of Long Haired Country Boy would be radio friendly hits and Budweiser could have something new besides frogs and lizards. They certainly would be great commercial fodder. Its obvious the CD is raw for a reason. To showcase this particular sound which is hard to come by these days with hip hop and other forms of popular music. All in all DB has a great voice and overall the CD is very good on the first outing. Bob Gallo
