When Gypsy Pistoleros burst upon the scene in 2007 with Wild, Beautiful, Damned they brought a uniqueness to the world of hard rock that is rarely found -- by mixing sleaze with flamenco sounds the band was both impressive and fresh. Unfortunately they never seemed able to build upon that initial hype and struggled with record companies, revolving band members and any other problem a group can face. Rising from the ashes is frontman Lee Pistolero, who is forging ahead on his own as 'the last of the Pistoleros'.
You might expect Lee to be angrier and more pissed off than ever, and deservedly so, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead the grizzled veteran has opened himself up to the world, at times showing a vulnerability that wasn't found on his earlier works. In keeping with Gypsy Pistoleros' over-the-top flamenco metal we have "Welcome To the Hotel De La Muertos" where Lee screams for all he is worth, "Rubi's Got A Gun" which builds speed as it progresses, the throbbing "Jezebel" and the commercially infectious "Livin' Down With The Gypsies".
On the other end of the spectrum we have Lee essentially sitting down with an acoustic guitar and drifting into Dogs D'amour territory. "They Call Me De Django" is the first of these, followed by "Los Suenos Del Los Muertos" and then best of the bunch "Sangra De Las Rosas" -- an eight-plus minute epic that may be the most ambitious track released under the Gypsy Pistoleros moniker. The only song that falls flat and seems out of place is the first single (it's amazing how that works) "Stand & Deliver", a cover of the Adam And The Ants hit that I have to say is horrible.
Upstart label 100% Rock has released Duende - Last Of The Pistoleros in Australia with three live demo bonus tracks that won't be found on the North American release -- one being "Sonic Reducer", a killer hard rock track that is worth the price of admission alone. Duende - Last Of The Pistoleros finds Gypsy Pistoleros, or should I say Lee Pistolero, maturing while staying true to the magic they originally possessed. A photo in the CD booklet of Lee facing away from the camera with a guitar strung low and drifting off into the sunset creates the feeling that this album will in fact be the 'last of the Pistoleros', and if that happens they will go out on top.

This is a true story. It takes place in a time where there was no law and order. The location is a dusty place somewhere in Mexico.
Lee J. Pistolero sits in a sleazy cantina mourning over the loss of his 3 Gypsy Pistoleros buddies. Lee, the last of the pistoleros, decides to hire the gunslinger Mark Westwood and together the two gunfighters team up for a wild ride meeting Johnny Peligroso, Django and even stays at the infamous Hotel De La Muerte. The soundtrack to their adventures is now available on the album "Duende - Last of the Pistoleros"
Gypsy Pistoleros took the world by storm with their debut album "Wild Beautiful Damned", which later was repackaged and released as "Para Simple".
This is Rock N' Roll and anything can happen. Basically anything has happened for the band. There have been numerous line-up changes and by "Duende" Lee Pistolero is the only Pistolero left naming the band Gypsy Pistolero pointing out this is a solo album.
Lee Pistolero has teamed with Mark Westwood - his old bandmate from White Trash UK. Ten studio tracks is what "Duende" has to offer - for the invited 4 tracks has already been released.
Even though this is a solo album we get all the classic Gypsy Pistoleros ingredients; Spanish guitar, Trumpet, distorted guitars and we even get gunshots and sound of horse hoofs.
The absence of Iggie Pistolero has made the band less punk rock. Mark Westwood doesn't play as direct and in-your-face as the former guitarist. However, Lee Pistolero is synonymous with the name Gypsy Pistoleros writing all songs. Lee has a great voice, which holds both power and passion.
The mellow Los Suenos del los Muertos is brilliant and the beautiful epic ballad Sangre de Las Rosas is the highlight of the album. The chorus is great and the use of trumpet adds more emotion to the song and also gives it a Spaghetti western flavor. The ballads seem to work great for Lee Pistolero. Woman was originally recorded by Lee and Mark Westwood's former band White trash UK, but still it holds up and underlines it is just a great timeless song
The up-tempo Hotel De La Muerte plays with several lines from Eagles' Hotel California. The song is a based on strong riffs and great melody lines.
The only cup of bitterness is that only six of the songs are new. With these 2 studio albums Gypsy Pistolero has the ammunition to become the next big thing, so
"C'mon Lee saddle up and let's ride the Rock N' Roll adventure".
"Duende" is a distinctive blend of flamenco meets Sleaze Rock. The blend of Spanish and English language is a unique combo that has to be heard. The songs get you addicted and it's an album whose songs don't leave your head.

Regular readers will have closely followed the action packed last couple of years of The Gypsy Pistoleros, with their near-deals, their explosive fallings out, an aborted live album and enough drama to keep any rock star's therapist’s kids in private schools for years. Almost the only thing missing, however, was new music from the self-proclaimed “greatest flamenco sleaze glam punk band ever.” Well the wait is over.
After the band fell apart in the middle of 2010, head honcho Lee Pistolero has taken the brave move to go solo and is ready with the first album under his new alias, GYPSY PISTOLERO – “DUENDE (Last Of The Pistoleros)”. Yep, it is typical Pistolero – unashamedly cheeky as hell, but he gets away with it when the result is this good!
It's so good, actually, that it’s fair to say “Duende…” is an amazing achievement for Pistolero - the re-recorded tunes from his old band show a new depth to the songs (especially ‘Sangre de las Rosas’). The production is lavish throughout and the bones of 'Rock' are fleshed out with some meaty 'Roll' delivered straight from Pistolero’s soul.
In this solo debut, Pistolero seems to have reconnected with the gypsy heart that inspired him to start his unorthodox sleazy hard rock in the first place. The Latino musical and lyrical influences are evident and as a result the album is more polished than anything he’s released in the past – just check out ‘They Call Me Django’, ‘Rubi’s Got A Gun’ and the amazing ‘Los Suenos Del los Muertos’ [‘The Dreams Of The Dead’] with it’s tender and emotive acoustic guitar for proof!
Credit where it’s due, however. Pistolero’s ex-White Trash UK guitar slinging bandmate Mark Westwood makes a weighty contribution, co-writing most of the songs, producing from his Nomad 51 Studios and caressing his six stringer spectacularly.
‘Stand & Deliver’ is an untamed cover of the infamous Adam & The Ants 80’s hit single and is as catchy as I and anyone who loved it first time around, will remember it. However, Pistolero turns it on it's head and makes it his own! ‘Johnny Peligrosa’ [‘Johnny Dangerous’] is a sleazy portion of old-school Pistoleros and ‘Woman’ can only have been written in the darkest corner of a bar whilst consuming a bottle of tequila and shedding a thousand tears during the process.
“Duende (Last of The Pistoleros)” is a radical and remarkably original album which should launch Mr P and his music to a completely new level.

There can be no doubt about the fact that this is a fantastic idea. Spanish flamenco dosed up on the attitude of 80’s Sunset Strip and energy of 70’s punk sounds like the ultimate party band to my ears. Even should you remain unconvinced by this utterly original concoction on paper, a Pistoleros live show is sure to have you dancing to their bizarre tune within minutes.
Now what is interesting here is to see how something that sounds like a particularly brilliant barroom brainwave has been refined in it’s execution since first being voiced on the sweaty air of a Spanish Tapas bar two summers ago. A pre-release of this album first fell into my hands near the end of 2005, meaning I’m well aware of how the Gypsy Pistoleros have evolved since then, as unlike countless other promos gathering dust in my spare room, it’s remained on high rotation at Bubblegum Slut HQ.
There are two immediately notable developments on the reworked version. Firstly, a revolving rhythm section has been replaced with the dependable duo of Angel and Leeroy Pistolero who provide tight, solid foundations of throbbing bass and hammering beats respectively. Secondly the production skills of Joe Bibb (Catatonia, Cure, Madonna!) pick out every subtlety of six-stringer Iggie’s complex flamenco-sleaze-glam guitar work and lend Leeroy’s every swipe at his drum skins thunderous impact. Of course, such polish doesn’t mean much if you’re working with a dog egg of an album to begin with. It’s tough to find much room for improvement amongst the rollicking hi-octane rockers crammed on to the first incarnation of this record, and bar some title changes and tweaking of arrangements, the core of the record remains pretty much intact, shining as strongly as it did through the rougher production.
Just a few of the diamonds to be found here are ‘Un Hombre Sin Rostro Pistolero’ (check it out on our free CD), a jumped up and jiving band anthem the reeks of cheap whiskey and a lust for danger just like a young Dogs D’Amour. ‘The Crazy Loco Loquito’ tempers Santana-like shrieks with flamenco informed guitarwork, while ‘Jet Jet Jet Boyz’ pulls off the unlikely feat of making a cheeky nod to Ricky Martin (!) while still sounding like something you could credibly get hammered to on the Cathouse dancefloor. For the two tradition and convention steeped genres, which they lash kicking and screaming together, Gypsy Pistoleros could just be the most exciting development to have occurred in decades. -

Naturally , you'd be horrified if the Gypsy Pistoleros set up camp in the lay-by outside your house. Then, after a week of curtain twitching and calls to the council, you'd find yourself knocking on the door of their caravan, seduced by the Glam-meets-flamenco riffs and guttural shreiks within, bandana and gold tooth in place, begging to join their seedy world.
Reissued with two extra tracks, the Pistoleros' debut is sheer musical escapism, with curiously titled standouts like Jet, Jet, Jet Boyz evoking a Motley Crue package holiday to Tijuana, the cover of Ricky Martin's La Vida Loca falling just the right side of ludicrous, and the revelation that this lot are actually British hard to fathom

One of the bands that is taking the Hard Rock world by storm is Gypsy Pistoleros. Taking ’80s style Hard Rock and mixing it with sleazy Glam and Spanish flavored music, lead singer Lee Pistolero and his gang of bandidos are taking no prisoners with their latest album, PARA SIEMPRE.
PARA SIEMPRE is considered the band’s latest release but it is a reissue of the Pistoleros’ debut, WILD, BEAUTIFUL, DAMNED (2007, Evil Boy Records), remastered with two additional songs added in for good measure. I’ve never heard the first release but, listening to PARA SIEMPRE, it’s easy to recognize that this is a band with talent and a unique sound. Imagine early Motley Crue, some Guns N’ Roses, Hanoi Rocks, a dash of Ramones, and Flamenco…..the Pistoleros are covering all the old school bases and then adding their own stamp. The lyrics are a mix of Spanish and English…..depending on the song you get a serious mix of “Spanglish” and that lends another unique characteristic to the band’s identity.
I wasn’t sold on the concept of taking traditional music from Spain and blending it with Hard Rock but I was surprised at just how well the two styles actually came together. Songs like ‘Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero’ and ‘Jet, Jet, Jet Boyz’ show the bands Sleaze Glam roots while ‘Una Para Todo Es Bandido!’ is THE prime example of of to blend flamenco, Spanish horns and guitar to early Motley Crue from the TOO FAST FOR LOVE era. Listen to Lee Pistolero’s vocals especially on this track and tell me he doesn’t sound like a really young Vince Neil.
The two additional songs are ‘Chicas Peligrosa’ and a rocked out cover of the Ricky Martin hit, ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’. ‘Chicas’ has Punk elements mixed with Metal while the rendition of the Ricky Martin tune shows that the band is just out to make music and have fun. I’m not a guy that enjoys covers over originals but I have to admit that the Pistoleros’ version is better than Ricky’s, even if it is just for a laugh. My favorite track is ‘Moonchild’. It has that Vince Neil vocal but it has a really nice acoustic guitar in the middle and that shows a bit of diversity.
Bottom Line:
The Gypsy Pistoleros have been the talk of the town in Hard Rock circles for a few months now and all the accolades are well deserved. Instead of re-hashing what has been done over and over again, the Pistoleros decided to blend styles and come up with something different. Lee Pistolero sounds like Vince Neil but there is enough separation between the two to hear the difference. Iggie Pistolero is an absolute monster on guitar and shows a diversity by going from electric to acoustic, from Hard Rock to Flamenco. And I also dig the Spanish horns that back half the tracks up. It’s not hard to hear that Gypsy Pistoleros have brought something new to a genre that can become stagnant very easily. Favorite songs here: ‘Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero’, ‘Moonchild’, ‘Forever Is Para Siempre’, ‘Una Para Todo Es Bandido!’ and ‘Switchblade Kiss Comes Close’.

If Robert Rodriquez plans on a return to Mexico for yet another sequel to ‘El Mariachi’, he better have the Gypsy Pistoleros’ number. I can see it now, the opening frame is a shoddy bar, where the chongo is piss-warm and the bartender is missing a fistful of teeth. The Gypsy’s swagger in, slow motion, of course. They look like leather-clad outlaw trash, fresh off the sunset strip, surrounded by the perplexed stares of the locals. They jump up onstage and run through a quick sound check, while spitting back spanglish insults at the threatening patrons. The amps and microphones spark and pop from the frayed wiring, not many rock bands play here.
The Gypsy’s open with a straight punk number laced with a funky flamenco drum and bass line called Close As You'll Ever Be. The set is furious and hard edged, and some of the vatos at the bar grab at their ears and scowl toward the stage. By the end of the set, there’s a dead silence from the audience who don’t quite understand what they just heard. Then, an uproar of flying beer bottles and whoops of approval, even a discharged pistol here and there. The locals like what they hear.
From the opening Santana-esque shrieks of Crazed Gypsy Girls Lair, I too, was hooked on The Gypsy Pistoleros, whose name sounds like homage to the Sex Pistols and “Johnny Rotten” Lydon. It’s hard to put a finger on Singer Lee J’s vocals, which I think is a testament to the band’s originality. Lee J is a healthy amalgamation of Johnny Rotten, Vince Neil, and Tito Puente, coupled with the screaming backup vocals it’s like a kick to the sternum in the mosh-pit, but it feels good.
Craig Smith is a master of the somber minor tones of Spanish guitar and shredding heavy metal, it shows on the track Crazed Gypsy Girls Lair. His chops are really shown with the scorching solo on Switchblade Closer. The drums and bass of Leeroy Pistolero and Nate Pistolero(respectively) are the driving force behind each of the three tracks I heard. The super up-tempo bass lines and heavy crash symbols are really what give the songs their speed and intensity. Some of the tempos are so fast it feels like Leeroy & Nate are pushing the tempo up without variation just because they can. It’s like the bass and drums are leading the song by a hook to the nostrils with machine gun rapidity.
In a nutshell, what the Gypsy Pistoleros have done is taken a fat vein of punk rock and injected it with a hit of Spanish flamenco, the result of which is a meth bender that will leave you naked and disoriented in the front yard.

The gestation of the new Gypsy Pistoleros mini album ‘Welcome To The Hotel de la Muerte” (“Welcome to the Hotel of the Dead”) has been a turbulent one, with the original sessions scrapped and release dates rescheduled, all playing out against the backdrop of the band’s high profile appearance at Rocklahoma in July 2009, sponsorship by video game WET and new record deals with Chavis Records in America.
Finally holding the CD in my hands, I can recognise what all the fuss was about – Welcome… represents a formidable step up for The Pistoleros, the world’s foremost “flamenco sleaze glam band”.
For starters, the album sounds fantastic, courtesy of the legendary Joe Gibb (Catatonia, Funeral For A Friend, The Kinks, Janes Addiction, and many more). The band are playing better than ever, and it’s hard to tell if Gibb has been the primary catalyst for their new-found clarity of vision and focus, or whether it’s the new stability in the ranks – Denny and Jet Pistolero joined on drums and bass respectively in June 2009, and provide a punchy bedrock to the songs that the band have lacked in the past – that we have to thank.
The album kicks off with the title track, Lee J Pistolero’s lyrics referencing The Eagles’ Hotel California while the song tumbles down the stairs like Guns n’ Roses and Hanoi Rocks jamming after a tequila fuelled lost weekend. Kris Jones’ mariachi trumpet is a great touch.
Living Down With The Gypsies is perhaps the truest song on offer to Lee’s punk roots, and sees his trademark vocal flourishes paying off (“lilo-lilo-lee-lilo” and Latin yelps abound), while Iggie gives us a killer wah-wah pumped riff.
Sangre De Las Rosas (“Blood of the Roses”) is a string drenched, eight and a half minute long epic as delicate as crystal and as ballsy as the local chapter of the Hells Angels, if The Angels were playing at a Mexican wedding and getting paid in tequila, cocaine and love. This is fantastic stuff and the production on this track alone makes it worth the price of admission, with gritty Mexican dust and magic oozing from every pore. The rumour is that this song will be released as a single later in the year, with Joe Leste of Bang Tango and Beautiful Creatures duetting with Lee.
The album is rounded out with a Pistolero flavoured run through a cover of the legendary Mexican rhumba band Los Chicas’ Sons Illusiones (“Are Illusions”), as tight and punchy and enjoyable as a Fight Club basement brawl.
With only 5 songs on Welcome… it clocks in at just under half an hour, following the old stage adage to always leave ‘em wanting more. Iggie Pistolero has captured a fabulous guitar sound on this album, managing to sound heavy and distorted one minute, and fragile and beautiful the next.
If their 2007 debut Wild, Beautiful, Damned (and its 2008 remixed re-release Para Siempre) were an exciting introduction to the band, Welcome To The Hotel De La Muerte is leaps and bounds ahead - a dynamic and unique statement of intent from a band that are legitimately doing something completely original and exciting.

GYPSY PISTOLEROS play, breath and live the rock star life. Their music will put life back in a dead body instead of those generic shock paddles. Lee is an energetic front man that puts heart and soul into every track and you will hear that right off the bat with “Welcome To The De La Hotel Muerte”. Iggie’s Slash-like style guitar work is pulsating and when he hooks up with the midsection of bassist Jet and the killer drums of Denny then GP are a true rock entity and I’m not shitting you!!! You have to check out the vocals of Lee Pistolero and his raw sound and screams that send chills down your spine. I like a lot of guitarists but when you have a guy like Iggie Pistolero stunning you with acoustic and electric work that is way above norm you have to be chatting with excitement. These guys mix it up with a rock/ punk flare and can shoot down any passive metal fan. What brings great elements are the bilingual lyrics that regardless if you speak Spanish, English or whatever, it ROCKS! “Sange de Las Rosas” is one heluva tune, ala a semi-rock ballad that serves up some whip ass, showing GYPSY PISTOLEROS have great diversity. Can’t tell you how much I admire these guys who are innovating and bringing the rock, punk and Spanish flamenco flare to a whole new generation. Who would have thought the pumping horn section would make such an impact on a rock album but proving the masses wrong GYPSY PISTOLEROS went from side stage act at Rocklahoma to main stage icons in 2009. They not only bring the goods on disc they back it on with a kickin’ live show. Check the energy on “Son Ilusiones”, not only do they have great vocals the backgrounds and harmonies bring a real live element. I love the subtle vocals and then at certain points Lee moves into high gear; amazing full-blown energy! The Renegade Gypsy Flamenco Rock N' Roll Glam Sleaze Punksters are back with a new mini album.
The debut album "Wild Beautiful Damned" dates back to 2007 and since Gypsy Pistoleros has been touring extensively on that album including two appearances at Rocklahoma. The album opens with the title track Hotel De La Muerte, which smartly fools around with several lines from Eagles' Hotel California. The song is a based on strong riffs and great melody lines.
The debut album caught everybody off guard with its blend of English and Spanish. Gypsy Pistoleros is unique and this mini album again underlines you can blend Latin and Sleazy Rock N' Roll successfully. Guitarist Iggie Pistolero is solid and Lee's vocals are strong. The guitar sound and Lee's characteristic vocals define Gypsy Pistoleros. Joe Gibbs has once again produced the band and he has provided the band with a crystal clear sound that suits the English rockers perfectly.
Sangre de Las Rosas is the surprise of the album. It is a beautiful ballad with a great signature riff and a most extraordinary guitar sound. The chorus is great and the use of trumpet adds more emotion to the song and also gives it a Spaghetti western flavor.
Sleaze/Glam metal was born in Hollywood clubs like Troubadour and Gazzaris, but Gypsy Pistoleros can take it to a Mexican cantina and make it work. Unique is the keyword! Hopefully a full length release is in the can soon since this mini LP feels like an appetizer only. We want more!

Arco: If Quentin Tarantino is ever gonna make a sequel of the movie ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ he should the Gypsy Pistoleros for sure and ask them to write the music for it. What? Never heard of Gypsy Pistoleros? Then you would better hide for with ‘Welcome To The Hotel De La Muerte’ the four will shoot you. I am not really acquainted with their former work but that will change quickly. Already in 2007 these four Brits, Lee J. (vocals), Iggie (guitar), Angel (bass) and Leeroy (drums) all named Pistoleros, released their first CD entitled ‘Wild, Beautiful, Damned’. This one was re mixed, and two extra songs were added, and released again in 2008 and was entitled ‘Para Siempre’. ‘Welcome To The Hotel De La Muerte’ is a five track EP.
Gypsy Pistoleros plays 80’s sleazy glam rock injected with some Spanish Flamenco; lets say Mötley Crüe meets Gypsy Kings. Singer Lee came up with the idea when he was living in Spain (Zaragosa) and it has to be said, it sounds refreshing. The only song I know on which rock is combined with Flamenco is ‘Innuendo’ by legendary band Queen, but in no comparison to what these four punk rockers do. The bio says ‘The Worlds Greatest Flamenco Glam Punk Rumba Rock ’n Roll Gypsy Kings’ and that is it all. The band has the attitude of a Mötley Crüe and playfulness of a Hanoi Rocks poured with some Guns ’n Roses, Ramones en Sex Pistols. The one moment full throttle with thundering drums, trumpet (Kris Jones) and shredding guitars (with distortion) and the next as vulnerable as glass, with Spanish guitar. Lee J. sounds as a crossover of (a young) Vince Neil, Johnny Rotten and Tito Puente and changes between Spanish and English (Spanglish), Iggie plays easily shredding riffs as well as sensitive Spanish guitar and the rhythm section is de driving force behind it all. The quick bass playing and heavy drumming give the songs their intensity.
The band already toured with big names as Vince Neil (Mötley Crüe), Poison, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, Twisted Sister, Ratt, Skid Row, Tesla, Bulletboys, Love/Hate, Bang Tango, Warrant en Dokken and played for the third time in a row the Rocklahoma festival. Gypsy Pistoleros has a unique sound in the sleaze glam rock genre. They come up with something really new in stead of repeating the same stuff over and over again. That deserves appreciation. The unique thing can also be against their favour because how original it might be, the question is for how long will it be fun? In the meantime it really does.

They increase from mark to mark, the Gypsy Pistoleros. I found their first CD nearly boring, but first Full album „Para Simpre “I could gain some from her. Like that I was completely also not un-curious (, mad word creation I white), when it was called, the volume takes up new material. In the USA „Para Simpre “and these new songs are published as an album. The fans in Europe must buy fortunately the disk once again, because bath reputation brings us „hotel De La Muerte “as 5-Song-EP into the shelves. New song are again somewhat more handy and from the Songwriting again a spleen better than still 2008. The Opener is Sleaze skirt purely and here hears I again, which does not ankotzt me everything from the category completely. „Son illusion “is introduced with Spanish guitar sounds and brings the Flamenco Touch still more into the foreground. The EP sounds fresh and leave, needs one around this music life and fire to einzuhauchen. Amusingly, like the development, the volume had carried out itself in such a way grew and does not stand not on the place. Clearly, one will not be able to expect enormous progressive leaps here, but always a piece goes forward. No rum-howled and wehmütiges back look on „the good old times “. Ne, simply forward looked and the best draus made, what one has today and can. The Titelsong is still another highlight worth mentioning on the 5-Tracker. „Sanfre de read Rosas “spreads mad and easily wehmütiges Italowestern flair and provides for small cooling. The Gypsy Pistoleros have created an extraordinary fusion of punk, glam, sleaze, and flamenco in this album. The Spanish style guitar riffs and the Spanish horns will draw you in and transport you to sunny Spain, or perhaps Mexico. But, your trip won't be a quiet affair. It'll be a crashing, ripping adventure filled with saucy senoritas, cape wielding matadors, and menacing hombres with big guns. Right from the beginning with "Shotgun Kiss Is Ay Que Dolor", you'll know what you're in for. As the song goes from in your face rock to beautiful flamenco, it evokes images of a matador spinning around in the bullfighting ring with his cape spread out and rippling in the air as he turns. Lee J's strong vocals, with a hint of an early Vince Neil quality, grab you by the throat, and he doesn't let go until the end. The mixture of English and Spanish lyrics add another dimension and depth to what are already great songs. Iggie, the band's very talented and versatile guitar player, sets the mood with his flamenco style guitar licks, that in a second transform into balls out, sizzling, hard rock riffs. He can seamlessly switch from acoustic to electric guitar, making a smooth transition from gentle, melodic, flamenco to gut-ripping, thrashing rock. And, although you can't explain why, it just works! As you listen, you just can't help but to find your head rockin' back and forth and your toes tapping to the driving beats supplied by the rhythm section of the band, which is now supplied by Harri on drums, and Nasty on bass.
This album is a re-mastered version of their debut album, "Wild, Beautiful, Damned", along with a couple extra songs. It was produced by the legendary Joe Gibb, who has also worked with Madonna, The Kinks, Jane's Addiction and The Cure, among others. When I saw the title of one of the extra songs, "Livin' La Vida Loca", I thought it surely couldn't be the Ricky Martin song of the same name. However, I was wrong. I was pleasantly surprised at the amazing job they did of covering that song. They took what to me is a catchy, but boring, song, and turned it into a truly hard rockin' piece of music.
I hate comparing one band to another, but unfortunately it's necessary in explaining a band's sound. And, it's made more difficult in the case of a band like the Gypsy Pistoleros, whose sound is so unique they don't readily compare to anyone else. However, you can pick up on their influences and there are a few similarities to other bands. For instance, one of their influences is Hanoi Rocks, and you can pick up on that when you listen to their music. You can also hear the influences of such classic glamsters as T. Rex and the New York Dolls. And, songs like the other new addition to this album, "Chicas Pelgrosa", lean towards a bit of a punk sound. Their sound is also often compared to early Motley Crue, if it were merged with flamenco, and I can see that, too.
"Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero" is one of the highlights of the album. As it switches tempo, I picture a lovely senorita, wearing a traditional long red dress covered in black lace, dancing, Spanish style of course, in a cobblestone paved plaza that has a fountain at the center. And, the buildings in the background have flower draped balconies and window boxes to add to the setting. But, then I'm snapped out of my reverie when I'm hit head-on by the switch back to the adrenaline packed, raunchy guitar and vocals that make up the bulk of the song. One of my favorite things about this album is that not only does it supply great sleaze rock 'n' roll, but it takes me on a far away exotic trip every time I listen to it. The haunting Spanish horns and Spanish style guitar at the beginning of "The Crazy Loco Loquito" take me to a dank and dusty Mexican saloon that's full of danger, but then the song launches full throttle into a fast-paced cocktail of meaty rock hooks with a tinge of that flamenco style the Pistoleros are known for. And, a whole story unfolds when I hear "Una Para Todo Es, Bandido". The mellow acoustic guitar and vocals at the beginning of the song brings to mind Antonio Banderas, carrying his guitar case, as he walks down a lonely dirt road somewhere in the desert of Mexico, wisps of dry dust swirling around his boots as he takes each step. Then, as he meets with his enemies, the song kicks into high gear with a bit of an early Crue sound. This is when the gun battle begins. The machine-gun beat keeps you riveted. The high energy guitar, horns, and vocals all build to a fever pitch climax. Then, the song finishes with a lone horn playing, and the dust clears revealing Banderas as the only man left standing, with a wisp of smoke spiralling up from the barrel of his gun. Whew! Then I inhale deeply as I realize I had been holding my breath.
All I can say is, if this band is half as energetic on stage as their music is, then their live show has to be a must see. I haven't had the chance to see them yet, but look forward to doing so when they perform at the Rock Gone Wild! festival next August. And, I'm also eagerly awaiting their new album due out in June 2009. Keep up the good work guys!!

The Gypsy Pistoleros are back, well sort of! Para Siempre is a re-issue of the bands soon to be classic debut 'Wild, Beautiful, Damned' with a couple of extra tracks, and now released on Bad Reputation, rather than self released. Oh, and the new tracks? You might have heard of one of them, a cover of a certain Ricky Martin song 'Livin La Vida Loca'!
If you missed this the first time around, or were too slow to catch the ship before it sailed into out of print land, this is your chance to get your hands on what could be the best album of 2007. Yes it really was that good, and with the extra tracks, it got even better. The cover is actually superb, and suits the bands latin infused style down to the ground, and 30 seconds in your singing along despite who did this originally.
We've got a new track order, we've got new songs, but we've still got the same attitude. To quote myself from the earlier review "Evenin' Pardner. Ya be wantin' some whiskey with them 'ere Pistoleros?" That's how the album should have started. This is hot for the faint hearted or those purists who say sleaze should be predictable, for that's one thing that 'Wild, Beautiful, Damned!' is not. This is not your normal glam/sleaze album, this is something new.
"It's like listening to LA Guns and Guns N Roses playing in the saloon in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It's dirty, it's nasty, you can practically smell the sawdust on the floor."
It all stands, it's all still true, and the Gypsy Pistoleros are one of the best things to come out of the UK in years, these are the bastard children of Axl Rose and Ennio Morricone, and just for the record, I still stand by the fact that this should have been named 'The Good, The Bad, and the Gyspy Pistoleros'!

Last night, my promo copy of the Gypsy Pistoleros disc Para Siempre (Bad Reputation) arrived. We'll consider the release an improved Wild, Beautiful, Damned which you might recall is on my list of the best albums of 2007.

If you own Wild, Beautiful, Damned a lot of the songs will be familiar. The differences here are "Livin' La Vida Loca" (with a shout out to Rocklahoma no less!), "Chica's Peligrosa," and "1-2-3-4 Kiss Me Then I'm Damned For Sure." The good news is that both these tracks are top notch - and a ton of fun.
Of these three new songs, I think my favorite is "Livin' La Vida Loca." No, I'm not a Ricky Martin fan (although I do think Life is underrated for a pop album, but I digress) and I don't necessarily dig cover tunes, but this version is executed really well. The guitars are crunchy and all-in-all the Gypsy Pistoleros have improved upon an overplayed song. Actually, I'd say the Gypsy Pistoleros know a sight more about living a crazy life than Ricky Martin anyway!
The Gypsy Pistoleros just changed bass players, so the person you hear on the recording is not who you will be seeing on stage. At any rate, all the musicianship on Para Siempre is absolutely top notch. For the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out how Lee Pistolero can sing Spanish...without his British accent. I guess that's just one of the wonders of the world.
Para Siempre has a release date of January 24, 2008. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy...and find out why the Gypsy Pistoleros are the single most inventive band of the last decade.

UK outlaw sleaze rockers Gypsy Pistoleros first unleashed their debut “Wild, Beautiful, Damned!” on Evil Boy Records, a newly launched label dedicated to getting the music of talented UK bands to the people who actually care to listen, some 11 months ago and now the album has been picked up by the French based Bad Reputation label for an official European release. And if all goes as planned US and Asian deals are also in the pipeline.Now the band and Bad Reputation could easily have gone for the easy approach and just put out the album exactly the way it came out last year but that would have been a bit too easy for both a band and a label that have built themselves a reputation for going against the grain. So not only has the album been re-titled and the order of the songs completely changed, it also comes dressed in a different jacket and with 2 genuine bonus tracks.My fellow RR colleague and overall partner-in-crime KVK perfectly described the band’s musical escapades as sleaze rock mixed with Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino styled flamenco. You know, the kind of music that could easily serve as the sound track to flicks such as “From Dusk Till Dawn” or “Desperado”.The guys themselves consider Hanoi Rocks as a major influence and I can see why cause just like Michael Monroe & C° they have thrown just about anything in the mix to create a unique sound: flamenco styled guitars and rhythms, Spanish lyrics, trumpets,…Opening cut “Shotgun Kiss Is Ay Que Dolor” immediately sets the tone for the rest of the album with its pounding drum beat, machine gun-like riffing altered with a catchy melody and fierce soloing while Lee Pistolero venomously spits out the lyrics. In fact the whole disc is a non-stop assault in the ear drums but one that will no doubt get the approval of many sleaze rock aficionados out there. As said earlier the package includes 2 bonus tracks, one of them a cover of the Ricky Martin(!) tune “Livin’ La Vida Loca” but rest assured it has been given the full GP-treatment and his little in common with the original song.To support this release a European tour is being put together with the likes of S.E.X. Department and Dirty Penny. Need I say that this here boy will be down the front row when this circus comes to town?

Well, this is something different. Gypsy Pistoleros, a band of Spanish flamenco infused rockers from England, er sorry Espangland, have re-released some material from last year with additional new tracks here on ‘Para Siempre’. I didn’t get the chance to hear the previous ‘Wild, Beautiful, Dmaned’ and so I can’t comment on what exactly is different, but from what I know this is a remastered version and supposedly a better introduction to the band.
They bill themselves as the worlds best glam sleaze-flamenco band and although they appear to be the only ones, anyone trying to emulate the Pistoleros have their work cut out. The material is without a doubt unique and if they continue on this path they are sure to turn a few major industry heads if they haven’t already.
‘Para Siempre’ is a down and dirty sounding album switching between English and Spanish lyrics with that typical Spanish/Mexican bull fighting, showdown, flamenco style added by the riffs and occasional trumpet. Strangely enough it sounds very cool and even though I don’t understand Spanish in the slightest I didn’t find myself looking for the skip button.
Every song is actually very, very good although the Ricky Martin cover of ‘Livin La Vida Loca’ isn’t my favourite but that probably has as much to do with me hating the original as anything else. At least the Gypsy Pistoleros have given it a big set of balls!
It might take some people a little while to get used to but once you get beneath the surface you can hear classic elements of glam, sleaze and punk but being played in a gritty Spanish saloon.
I’m not sure how it came about but Gypsy Pistoleros have come up with an interesting, individual sound and there just isn’t anything else like it at the moment. ‘Para Siempre’ is as exotic as rock n roll can get.

For those not familiar with the Gypsy Pistoleros, they play sleazy, gritty glam with a touch of Latin flair (although not quite as prevalent as they sell it, it certainly amounts to a lot more than just some Spanish lyrics). Unlike the many bands from the hair metal heyday of the 80s that refuse to die a dignified death (let's face it, dignity wasn't exactly their thing anyway) and the many new bands that simply regurgitate material that, with a few exceptions, wasn't all that great the first time around, the Pistoleros are an exciting rock n roll band. Their energy, swagger and creativity is more reminiscent of the original wave of glam bands that dominated the British rock scene of the 1970s even if their sound has much in common with early Motley Crue as it does with Mott the Hoople. In a genre that seems like it should be long dead, the Gypsy Pistoleros have more than enough life to stay afloat in what is otherwise a fairly stagnant sea.
Para Siempre is essentially a re-release of the Pistoleros debut, issued last year on Evil Boy Records, remastered with two additional tracks. The remastering made a noticeable difference. The sound on Para Siempre is considerably richer and packs a solid punch even if the previous release was entirely acceptable. The track list was rearranged to include the additional songs and the flow is every bit as good. "Chicas Peligrosa" is more of the same fun that's to be expected from the band, but their cover of "Livin' La Vida Loca" (yeah, it's the Ricky Martin song, but something tells me their crazy life is a little bit different than his) is the big surprise. It takes the catchy pop song, gives it some teeth and stirs it into an actual rock song. If anything justifies buying this repackaging, this cover is it. For those who missed the original release, you luck out, because they improve upon an already very good record the second time around.

The album features a great selection of good time rock n' roll mixed with the sleazy 80's styles of Motley Crue and Hanoi Rocks, combined with more than a little Latin American influence thrown in for good measure. All of which goes to make this a very unique album.
Things get underway with ‘Shotgun Kiss Is Ay Que Dolor’ and instantly you think you’ve been thrown into a Quentin Tarentino soundtrack. The band have definitely nailed the Latin American Glam Sleaze sound with this album.
There aren’t many albums that come my way that will have that unique factor about them, but Gypsy Pistoleros have created just that. They are without a doubt the most eclectic rockers this side of the Pecos.
This unique mix of Spanish/Mexican influences and old school hair metal are just superb and this is felt throughout the entire album with the likes of ‘Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero’ and ‘Forever Is Para Siempre’, both carrying on from where opener left off.
The bands obvious punk influences are found on the up tempo rockers ‘What's It Like To Be A Girl In The House Of 1000 Dolls?’ and ‘Jet, Jet, Jet Boyz’. This band are like a breath of fresh air in a scene dotted with wannabe’s and copycats. It's great to hear a band that just do their own thing and obviously have a hell of a lot of fun doing just that.
The band include one cover version on this album, a quite superb fired up rendition of Ricky Martin’s ‘Livin' La Vida Loca’, which just simply has to be heard to be believed!
Other outstanding tracks of note are ‘Chicas Peligrosa’, a song that will have those spurs a-tapping in the saloon tonight, and the more relaxed tones of ‘Moonchild’ which shows the band can slow things down when the need arises.
If you want something a little different from your usual Crue wannabe crowd then check these guys out, they're like a breath of fresh air.

So these dudes - skinny, chain-smoking Brit-Spaniard sleaze-beasts - were at Rocklahoma last year, and I didn't include them in my report on the three-day long debacle in Classic Rock magazine. So, I think they're pissed at me about it, and want to stove my brains in with a pint glass or something. At least, that's what I've heard. But I wasn't even there when they played, I was outside, ankle deep in the mud, waiting for a backstage pass that took hours to procure. Obviously, my pain and suffering over that long and winding festival, from the sunburn and fatigue to…well, watching three days' worth of aging hairspray bands, offered them no solace. So, hopefully, the following will patch things up, and we can all move on:
Para Siempere is a thrill-a-minute collection of melodic eye-patch swagger that smells of exotic spices and forbidden concubines. The Gypsy Pistoleros sound like Hanoi Rocks, if Hanoi Rocks were sultans and snakecharmers. The Pistoleros' bilingual tongues are as smooth and fluid as their easy-sleazy guitar riffs and their scarf-waving Big Hooks. Now that Hardcore Superstar and the Backyard Babies have traveled even further down the Bon Jovi path, seems obvious to this old salt that the Pistoleros are the new sleaze-bags du jour. Try the plastic-fantastic majesty of Jet, Jet, Jet Boyz or the hand-clapping gutter-glam of What’s It Like To Be A Girl In the House of 1,000 Dolls? for proof. Nothin' left to do, really, except to find the biggest hoop earring your lobe will endure and join the mad gypsy dance.

As I grab my morning cup of Joe and check my e-mails I come across an e-mail from Chilli manager of a band coming out of California called DIRTY PENNY. As I do some research and await their press package I check out the bands individual MySpace pages, which I always do.
First up was DIRTY PENNY’s guitarist Jonny Prynce MySpace page and it’s kinda funny getting blown away by a song that’s not even from the band that your checking out which is on Prynce’s page.
Up pops a song called “Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero” by this band called GYPSY PISTOLEROS and it just amazed me how unique these guys are. They called themselves Renegade Gypsy Flamenco Rock N´Roll Glam Sleaze Punksters. Ha what the double shift is that, well check it out, you don’t have to be bilingual to get the full brunt of these guy. They just kicked my ass how good the songs are written, hooks galore and check this out the songs are bilingual mixing English and Spanish and it works.
Lee J Pistolero vocals has range and is crisp with power, the Charisma he possesses is down right nasty and I am sure when they play out live he should have lots of hooch mama’s bowing to his commands.
The CD was produced by Mr. Joe Gibb (JANE’S ADDICTION, MADONNA, THE CURE) and in the first month of release sold 15,000 Copies. These rocking amigos from the UK have the MOTLEY CRUE feel with sounds of flamenco molded into their tracks. The opening track “The Crazy Loco Loquito” shows the diversity of cultures and if you bias towards anything on this disc. you should be put in a straight jacket; These boys can rock with the best of them and should not be transformed into a record company executive trinket as a marketing gimmick.
GYPSY PISTOLEROS are a band that is heart felt and should stick true to their roots and it shows that the guys don’t give a double shift what people say and are playing some of the best music I’ve heard since the debut of CRASHDIET.
“Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero” is the song that knocked me down that will put a tail spin on the youth as did “Youth Gone Wild” by SKID ROW did. The chorus is burning in your memory as Iggie Pistolero reels off killer riffs and the Trumpet by Kris Jones sets a Spanish vision. Such a good song that you will listen to over and oven again.
“Forever Is Para Siempre” has the full throttle vintage CRUE vibe, another great track that will have the repeat button being pushed often. The array of talent built into GYSPY PISTOLEROS should not be past off as a fade but nurtured as they gather a huge fan base. Fans of FASTER PUSSYCAT, PRETTY BOY FLOYD, MOTELY CRUE, POISON and others during that great era in music should check GP. This should be another release that will make our top ten best CD’s of 2007 at the end of the year, not a bad track on the entire CD don’t believe it read what some veterans comments:

Review:
Upstart label Evil Boy Records has just released their initial CDs, and in the case of Gypsy Pistoleros I can only say that they managed to sign one of the most unique bands I've heard in years - sleaze rock meets Spanish flamenco music in a refreshing blast of originality. Listening to Wild, Beautiful, Damned I immediately picture the band playing in the background of Quentin Tarantino's slash-fest From Dusk Till Dawn. Gypsy Pistoleros could easily have been the banditos strumming severed limbs while Salma Hayek gyrated across the stage.
Don't ask me what the hell these guys are singing about, because half the time I have no clue, nor do I care. The music rocks and that is the most important thing. Right from the beginning of "The Crazy Loco Loquito" you can tell that Gypsy Pistoleros is on to something special, and it just gets better from there.
"Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero" is one of the best songs I've heard so far this year. Complete with trumpets, the song evolves into a screaming energy filled chorus. "Una Para Todo Es Bandido" starts off nice and slow, but it doesn't take long for that to change and once again the chorus is over-the-top. It is that same change of tempo that makes "What's It Like To Be A Girl In The House Of 1000 Dolls" work so well, as it is one of the few songs that abandons the flamenco sound ("Switchblade Kiss Comes Close" and "Jet, Jet, Jet Boyz" being the others). The band even throws in a nice ballad called "Moonchild" for good measure.
Gypsy Pistoleros is blazing a new trail here and doing a hell of a job. There isn't a song on this release that I didn't like, right from start to finish the boys offer a steady dose of sleaze with a twist. The liner notes call Wild, Beautiful, Damned the "greatest renegade gypsy flamenco sleaze glam rock n roll album ever" - who am I to argue?

They've supported The Dogs D'amour, Adlers Appetite, Enuff Z Nuff and shared stages with the likes of Dio, Motorhead and The Cramps, and now they come flying out into the retail market, guns blazing, saddle bags full.
"Evenin' Pardner. Ya be wantin' some whiskey with them 'ere Pistoleros?" That's how the album should have started, instead it starts even more appropriately at the birth of the Pisteleros, these bastard sons of Ennio Morricone and Axl Rose. This is hot for the faint hearted or those purists who say sleaze should be predictable, for that's one thing that 'Wild, Beautiful, Damned!' is not. This is not your normal glam/sleaze album, this is something new.
It's like listening to LA Guns and Guns N Roses playing in the saloon in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It's dirty, it's nasty, you can practically smell the sawdust on the floor.
Supposedly frontman Lee J Pistelero (they're all Pisteleros in this band!) came up with the idea for the band while living in the backstreets of Zaragoza. Obviously influenced by flamenco and that latin guitar sound, the album throws in some brass here and there to flesh out the sound, while guitars thrash and drums smash, and Lee J stands serenading the latest girl to fall into his lap.
'Un Hombre Sin Rostro Pistolero' the second track on the album is gun toting rock and roll express train. It has everything you'd want in one of the songs you jump around to in a club half cut, spilling more beer than your drinking, complete with sing a long chorus where you don't need to know the words, just shout "Pistolero" at the right time.
And on it goes, although we get an interlude late in the album with the more punk fueled 'Switchblade Kiss Comes Close", more in line with the New York Dolls. With much of the singing on the album seemingly unconsciously switching from Spanish to English and then back again, you get a real feel for where the band are trying to take you. It works, at least it does for me, although I imagine a lot of other people are going to to lambast the band, more interested in the latest GNR influenced, basic rock n roll, easy to like.
If they don't call the follow up to this "The Good, The Bad and The Gypsy Pisteleros" I really am going to be disappointed though!
Take this one for a spin, grab a bottle of whiskey, strap on your colt, and go rock in 2007's Old West.

Gypsy Pistoleros mix glam rock with rumba catalana (a distant, pop-oriented cousin of flamenco), and as a result arrive at a stylistic hybrid with textures of rock and rhythms of the genre that so far has been completely alien to it.
The rumba influence equips their songs with timeless, ready-made rhythms that the band is happy to turn to over and over again. The album's opener, "The Crazy Loco Loquito", is a perfect example of the straightforward way in which Gypsy Pistoleros use the rumba grooves, introducing the sound and the feel that will continue for the rest of the record. It's a feisty, direct song, danceable and very interested in chart action. The band's chops are confident and sleek, but not too glossy to warrant the kind of criticism that has always been aimed at those who exploit flamenco purely for commercial success. The vocal is charged with sleazy sex appeal and sounds perfectly practiced, floated by the vigorous rhythm section that propels the beat with single-minded determination. All this works, so the band repeats the pattern on other songs, with rock and rumba themes spinning around each other with salsa-flavoured buoyancy throughout the album.
The album's palette of moods is simple, but "Moonchild", a ballad, brings in the much needed change, imbuing reflection into the sound that starts to become habitual as the record goes on. It is a beautiful, moving song with subtle backing vocals adding an extra delicate layer to the proceedings. The spare acoustic guitar parts not only contribute finesse, but carry enough meaning to evoke the scent of an age and a culture that up until now haven't been touched by modern rock'n'roll. The result is stunning, adding to the drama already stirred by the spare but intense harmony.
"Moonchild" being an exception, the band's sound doesn't change much from song to song, but at times they simplify both rumba and rock'n'roll harmonies to the point where only the very basic structure is left to build a song on. This is the case on "Switchblade Kiss Comes Close", an LA Guns-inspired frantic song with raw-edged guitar parts picking up on the heat generated by the clear-cut rhythm section. Even though the band doesn't favour big rock riffs, the solo on this track is pure untainted rock'n'roll calling to mind the 1980s LA scene and bands like LA Guns, Faster Pussycat and early Motley Crue.
The song that follows, "Jet, Jet, Jet Boyz", is another highlight of the album. It has a silly, but infections chorus and cooks up a delicious mix of rock swagger and pop-flavoured hooks.
Overall this is a solid album, and while Gypsy Pistoleros are certainly not aiming at changing the face of rock'n'roll, they successfully manage to add to it the emotional resonances that so far haven't been heard in rock. Falling into a routine is easy when you engage in flamenco and its offspring styles, but the band knows how to manipulate the elements of this tradition to make their music genuinely entertaining.

Pistoleros - Wild, Beautiful, Damned
"Wild, Beautiful, Damned" is the debut album from 4 English Amigos, who goes by the name Gypsy Pistoleros. While frontman Lee Pistolero was living in Spain he came up with the concept for the band.
As you probably can tell from the song titles Gypsy Pistoleros sings both in Spanish and English. According to themselves they are Renegade Gypsy Flamenco Rock N´Roll Glam Sleaze Punksters. They certainly are one of the most unique bands I discovered in decades.
Besides combining English and Spanish, the music is a successful hybrid of attitude, catchy hooks, punk, sleazy riffs - all based in Rock with a capital R. The punk influence is also understated by all members sharing the Pistolero last name equal Ramones.
The band sets no boundaries and the album explores extremes of the Hard Rock concept. We get Spanish guitar, Trumpet, distorted guitars, hard hitting drums and bouncing bass riffs. Vocalist Lee Pistolero has a great voice, which holds both power and passion.
The album opens with trumpet, Spanish guitar and a Latin beat, where after the electric guitars kicks in. It's actually a good general description of the content on "Wild, Beautiful, Damned". The first single Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero gets you hooked immediately, but album highlights are:
The tight Forever Is Para Siempre, where guitarist Iggie Pistolero chops some great power chords. The selection of notes for the solo is superb. Forever Is Para Siempre is one of the most "regular" songs with an in-your-face swaggering melody.
What's It Like To Be A Girl In The House Of 1000 Dolls? follows a simple - but effective - formula emphasized by a great verse with rumba rhythms plus handclaps. The song could very well be a Tarantino movie scene shot in some sleazy Mexican cantina.
Una Para Todo Es Bandido! And Senor Mangi Acqui are instant live favorites. Gypsy Pistoleros is a flashy and flamboyant band live. Read a review of their tour supporting Enuff Z´Nuff, Faster Pussycat and Bulletboys.
Moonchild is the only ballad like song. The change of acoustic and electric guitar works perfectly and the interplay provides the song with a special haunting emotion.
Shotgun Kiss Is Ay Que Dolor combines everything Gypsy Pistoleros is about. The song changes between Rock and Flamenco. Overall it's a good reputation for the Latin flavored Hard Rock, which understates that Gypsy Pistoleros is a very welcomed addition to the Hard Rock/Sleaze/Glam/Rock scene.

The British support band Gypsy Pistoleros gave the crowd something cool and unforeseen with a synthesis of glam rock and flamenco, their genre-bending tearing down stylistic barriers with taste and confidence, adding luscious glam imagery to the classic flamenco standards.
The common feature of all four bands that played on the night is that somehow everything comes easy to them – the stage presence, the chops, the style. Watch any of them live and you will be able to tap into the essence of rock’n’roll that has that unmistakable authentic quality to it, the hallmark of a real thing.
The Faster Pussycat / BulletBoys / Enuff Z’Enuff / Gypsy Pistoleros European tour continues with dates in Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Spain, Greece and Italy still to come, so grab your friends and see for yourselves what glam rock has to say these days. The message is as convincing as it used to be, but there is more subtlety and savvy to it today than ever before.

Wow, start up label Evil Boy Records is so new that they (at this time) have only 2 releases on their roster. First of all the amazing Gunfire Dance album (reviewed somewhere else on these pages) and now the Gypsy Pistoleros who bring us some of the wildest sleaze rock I've heard in years mixed with a dash of…eh…flamenco.
Yeah, you read that right, sleaze rock under the influence of the original Spanish styled flamenco. Although I feel obliged to tell you that it’s the Roberto Rodriguez/ Quentin Tarantino kind of mariachi flavor, not the stiff upper lip, complete with the red rose, variety.
But don’t take this the wrong way as the CD takes off to a flying start with opener ‘The Crazy Loco Loquito’ (whatever that means) & pounds relentlessly on until it comes to a grinding halt with ‘1-2-3-4 Kiss Me Then I’m Damned For Sure’.
Take multiple electric axe attacks, couple them with some crazy acoustic guitars and over the top trumpets and you have the ingredients for the most hyperactive sleaze rock record of the year. The kind of album that can save even the dullest party in the world. Arriba Arriba! ( KVK)

Innovation in the Sleaze genre is rare, but which the "Gypsy Pistoleros" takes off here is completely large cinema. They take "Ricky Martin" and mix it all with a fat dose "star star" and "Hanoi flair" and create a cool mix of Flamenco Sleaze n ' roll. Exactly, the "Gypsy Pistoleros" mixes Glam flair with Latino sound and the whole fits really perfectly. Sung in English and Spanish by Frontman "Lee J Pistolero", also it constitutes the balance. The first time I became aware on the volume, was when "Love/Hate" singer "Jizzy Pearl" wore one of their t-shirts at his gig. The "Pistoleros" was partial support on the "Love/Hate", "Kristy Majors", "Bang Tango" Tour and star was all together very done from the British. I can understand that also well, because its Debut album "Wild, Beautiful, Damned" is verflucht cooles part. The Flamenco impact is missing with each Song in same Maas, "Forever is Para Siempre" is for example a cleaner Sleaze skirt Song, different the Opener "The Crazy Loco Loquito" or the gentle "Una Para Todo it Bandido". My Fave is completely clearly the rockige "Un Hombre Sin Rosto Pistolero" from the first second on goes off like a rocket and a knalligen Refrain had. "Wild, Beautiful, Damned!" pleases me really unbelievably well and it is really times class a Sleaze variation to hear the innovative and cool at the same time is. Whoever loves "Tito & Tatantula", will be here surely particularly pleased, the album is made for a Mexican Bandito Movie are also in the best way suitable. Who did not understand it now yet: Buy this record, this is fucking wildly, beautiful and damned!!!

GYPSY GUNMEN Wild, Beautiful, Damned! Evil Boy Record, Score: 8/10 Once in a while, in this of music there is somebody scores to innovate, or, to offer something different, amused at least but from quality, and when that always takes place is worthy to praise, since we changed a little the chip and we were able to listen to something novel that it returns to us to remember the magician who is music. This is what happens to the group that touches to us, a divertimento very serious call GYPSY GUNMEN, group that could only come across from the pool, since its proposal is very near the Sleazy and Glam rock of the eighty, that and to give a different and graceful touch here him we have to four musicians pawned on mixing that style with I touch Mexican, under letters in English with some parts in Castilian, juice and mixes explosive, which it will turn to us without a doubt in its sound to MÖTLEY CRÜE, with the amused touch well of which it spoke. "Wild, Beautiful, Damned" he is his bequeathed crazy person, a work made up of eleven temazos of Sleazy, where under the great voice of Lee J Gunman, our hips and heads leave sudden flights, under a ochentero rock to not being able more, and I touch extremely Mexican in many of them, as well as that mixture of English Spanish and to whom before it made reference, véanse courteous like the brilliant "The Crazy Crazy Loquito", "a Man Without Face, Gunman", perfect mixture of it, or "Forever Is For Always", which or they could sign the Mötley or some band of long ago, without olvídanos of pegadiza "One For Everything Is Bandit ", or impressive "Mr. Mangi Acqui", simply perfect Glam rock, guitars macarras, refrain to hiper pegadizo and bad dribble, under one melodía delicious, everything a gift for our ears. Without a doubt, GYPSY GUNMEN offers all a lesson to us of classic rock with an amused vein mixing styles and that into the hands of these boys, has been professional and cheers, everything a gift for which was boring of the same of always. What a sexy little gimmick these guys have going on here. Originating from Spain, the Gypsy Pistoleros have combined the romantic elements of Spanish culture and language and niftily blended it together with their own influence of dirty rock n roll. The way God intended it to be, maybe. Ok from a distance it could sound a little odd, maybe even a little kitsch but trust me it's as instantly loveable as when you first heard the husky tones of that intoxicated rogue Tyla, and Pistoleros tattooed frontman Lee J often sounds a little like him at times too. A great deal similar to the Dogs albums 'Graveyard of empty bottles' or 'Straight' with the huge amount of glamour from the sexy vagrant look, the strength in the lyrics and the intense dynamics and ornaments contained in each melody.
The Gypsy Pistoleros both vocals and musicians alike take a hold of each song and don't let go until they're well and truly done with it, the riffs roll from beginning to end with the randomly accompanying flamenco rhythm, a rollercoaster of passion and raw rock n roll.
'Un Hombre Sin Nostro, Pistolero' is an excellent place to start listening, outstanding character, ripping vocals and a perfect theme while 'Forever is Para Siempre' has even more balls, L A Guns style with a harder rocking influence. This band and every track on this album just can't help but make you smile.
There are moments when the Spanish feel slows down and you realise that the true influence here is rock, 'Senor Mangi Acqui' again lets the dynamics take over the song and the backing vocals really make this emotional and effective. 'Una Para Todo es Bandido'! begins with a Spanish acoustic sound, and an accompanying image of an approaching gun fight! Just as you think you know where the songs going, it blasts off into a totally different direction. Not as predictable as you might think!
'Switchblade Kiss Comes Close' introduces a much stronger attitude and you notice maybe older glam and punk rock influences, a little Dolls here and a little Lords there.
The album ends with the track '1-2-3-4 Kiss Me Then I'm Damned For Sure' and stamps out the title line 'Wild, Beautiful, Damned', which is a perfect way to sum up.

Gypsy Pistoleros, who were on next, are clearly onto something good with the self-assured way in which they manipulate glam rock and flamenco into a neat musical hybrid, ending up sounding like no-one else. Their style works wonderfully, as they dip their rumba grooves in glam, single-handedly inventing a cunningly chosen, multi-flavoured blend of styles. On the night their synthetic grooves sounded infectiously vigorous, taking rock in a new direction with a sly contradiction between glam and a genre that before now had nothing to do with rock’n’roll, but in the hands of this band gives rock a fresh lift.
By the time LA Guns hit the stage, the audience was geared up and ready.

Potrei chiudere qui. Ma i quattro “pistoleros” inglesi guidati dalla voce di Lee J, cresciuto in Spagna a whisky, flamenco e rock’n’roll, meritano senz’altro di più.
La tromba di The Crazy Loco Loquito ed subito “fiesta!”. Anche se è con il successivo pezzo Un Hombre Sin Rostro, Pistolero che i nostri staccano il biglietto vincente.
La commistione spagnolo/inglese è ben studiata e per nulla forzata. I ritmi solo in apertura spagnoleggianti, perché le tracce hanno tutte un tiro “sleaze” molto pericoloso. Iggie maltratta la sua sei corde dal primo all’ultimo istante dando vita a “giri di vite” davvero furiosi.
I Gyspsy Pistoleros sono gente ben navigata, a sentire la padronanza tecnica in loro possesso. Forever Is Para Siempre è un altro pezzo da novanta. Così come Una Para Todo Es Bandido!, introduzione classicheggiante ed esplosione nel coro portante.
Sono troppe, quasi tutte, le canzoni da sottolineare. Qui mi fermo con la ballata Moonchild… il resto vi invito ad andarlo a “pescare” direttamente.
Grandissimo disco. Grandissima band.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of glam after 1985 or so. I certainly like T. Rex and Sweet and Bowie. I like the New York Dolls and early Alice Cooper. I even like a fair amount of the glam revialists of the early 80s, but by the mid 80s, the revival seemed to have lost sight of its roots. It became stale and formulaic and all but a few of those bands seemed to be going through the motions at very best. That makes me wonder why anyone would want to resuscitate the genre at this point. It's over, it's spent, leave it alone. Then along comes the Gypsy Pistoleros to show me exactly why.
The Pistoleros claim to be "flamenco rock." It's a claim that leaves one asking, "What? How can that be?" It could be great and it could be a disaster. Wild, Beautiful, Damned shows the flamenco part of that claim to be a bit of a stretch, but the result is far closer to greatness than disaster. There is a very slight bit of Spanish flavor to their music, perhaps attributable to singer Lee Pistolero's days living in Spain, but the principle ingredient is the loose, dirty swagger of glam in its glory days (yeah, the 70s, not the 80s). The Pistoleros manage to do everything right and still make it feel wrong in the way that good rock n roll always should.
They've been touring with the likes of Adler's Appetite (least important GnR alumni Steven Adler's joke of a band) and piecemeal 80s metal acts like Bang Tango, Faster Pussycat, Bulletboys and LA Guns that should be ashamed of their whoring selves. They even opened the inexplicably successful Rocklahoma nostalgia fest. But it's the new kid on the glam block that really carries the mantle of the music that was established back in the 70s. If glam is in fact alive, it is not because of half-baked reunions and bands trying to relive their ill-gotten glory, it's because the Gypsy Pistoleros can channel the Dolls and T Rex into something new, fresh and a little bit dirty.

Wow, start up label Evil Boy Records is so new that they (at this time) have only 2 releases on their roster. First of all the amazing Gunfire Dance album (reviewed somewhere else on these pages) and now the Gypsy Pistoleros who bring us some of the wildest sleaze rock I've heard in years mixed with a dash of…eh…flamenco.
Yeah, you read that right, sleaze rock under the influence of the original Spanish styled flamenco. Although I feel obliged to tell you that it’s the Roberto Rodriguez/ Quentin Tarantino kind of mariachi flavor, not the stiff upper lip, complete with the red rose, variety.
But don’t take this the wrong way as the CD takes off to a flying start with opener ‘The Crazy Loco Loquito’ (whatever that means) & pounds relentlessly on until it comes to a grinding halt with ‘1-2-3-4 Kiss Me Then I’m Damned For Sure’.
Take multiple electric axe attacks, couple them with some crazy acoustic guitars and over the top trumpets and you have the ingredients for the most hyperactive sleaze rock record of the year. The kind of album that can save even the dullest party in the world. Arriba Arriba! ( KVK)

Innovation in the Sleaze genre is rare, but which the "Gypsy Pistoleros" takes off here is completely large cinema. They take "Ricky Martin" and mix it all with a fat dose "star star" and "Hanoi flair" and create a cool mix of Flamenco Sleaze n ' roll. Exactly, the "Gypsy Pistoleros" mixes Glam flair with Latino sound and the whole fits really perfectly. Sung in English and Spanish by Frontman "Lee J Pistolero", also it constitutes the balance. The first time I became aware on the volume, was when "Love/Hate" singer "Jizzy Pearl" wore one of their t-shirts at his gig. The "Pistoleros" was partial support on the "Love/Hate", "Kristy Majors", "Bang Tango" Tour and star was all together very done from the British. I can understand that also well, because its Debut album "Wild, Beautiful, Damned" is verflucht cooles part. The Flamenco impact is missing with each Song in same Maas, "Forever is Para Siempre" is for example a cleaner Sleaze skirt Song, different the Opener "The Crazy Loco Loquito" or the gentle "Una Para Todo it Bandido". My Fave is completely clearly the rockige "Un Hombre Sin Rosto Pistolero" from the first second on goes off like a rocket and a knalligen Refrain had. "Wild, Beautiful, Damned!" pleases me really unbelievably well and it is really times class a Sleaze variation to hear the innovative and cool at the same time is. Whoever loves "Tito & Tatantula", will be here surely particularly pleased, the album is made for a Mexican Bandito Movie are also in the best way suitable. Who did not understand it now yet: Buy this record, this is fucking wildly, beautiful and damned!!!
