Artist Information
Biography
Formed in 2005 as a collaboration of international musicians living in the Pacific NW, GLOBAL HEAT has thrilled audiences around the world with its ALL-LIVE, high-energy blend of hip hop, world beat, and R&B. Global Heat takes positive messages about life, world events, and just plain old gettin’ down and mixes them with some of the best of Seattle’s break-dancers for a visually stunning show.
ORBITRON, front-line artist for Global Heat, has emerged as one of Seattle’s most celebrated freestyle rappers and B-boys. He is a founding member of the legendary B-Boy crews Circle of Fire and SoulShifters. Orb has been featured at international events such as Lords of the Floor (Seattle), Battle of the Year 2000 (Germany), Dance Delight 2001 (Japan), Armory Cup 2006 (Korea), Juste de bout 2007 (Paris), B-Boy Summit (Los Angeles), and Freestyle Sessions (Seattle). As a solo artist, critics have praised Orb's B-Boy Universal LP. Larry Mizell Jr. (The Stranger) wrote, "Abstract, optimistic and spiritual, Orbitron evokes the (up)lifted vibe of Fresh Coast underground..." Mike Nardone (legendary Los Angeles DJ and host of KXLU's We Came From Beyond) proclaimed, "Go Get It... Fantastic Record!".
Global Heat has been featured at major concerts and festivals around the world, including a week of performances at the 2006 Shanghai (China) International Music Festival and the prestigious Oregon Shakesphere Festival Green Show (Ashland, OR). Members have performed worldwide in over 25 countries, including tours or residencies in China, Vietnam, Korea, Australia, Japan, and Malaysia. Members of Global Heat have appeared regularly or on tour with KRS ONE, The Rebelz, Pep Love of Hiero Imperium, Maya Soleil, Babatunde Olatunji, Kanda Bongo Man, Mango Son, Sam & Dave “Soul Man”, and others.
In addition to performances, participatory workshops are available in: 1) Hip Hop Music, Break Dancing, or Graphic Arts, and 2) African Rhythm and Drumming, and 3) Latin Rhythm and Drumming. Global Heat also offers lecture/demos on the History of Hip Hop Music and Dance.
