Biography

JOSI DAVIS is a savvy songwriter and performer. Her powerful and dynamic voice shines in passionate delivery of her own work, and in an inspired repertoire of songs from Bach to Bacharach. Josi was born into a family of musicmakers and studied piano and voice from an early age, both privately and as a Music Performance and Theater major in college and conservatory. She picked up the (more portable) guitar in college, and continues to experiment in new styles and voicings on all her instruments. Inspired by many great teachers and artists, Josi has earned several degrees in Music, Mistakes, and Motherhood from several American cities. Josi grew up in the Washington DC area, and bravely forged a life of music and performance from Seattle to Baltimore, and most recently, in New England.
Josi won the first ever BETSY award for her performance of her original "Believe", garnering a two-time opener for Bill Cosby. She has performed at the New York Singer/Songwriter Festival and the Boston Folk Festival. She has shared the stage with Sloan Wainwright, Josh White Jr., Guy Davis, and jazz great Giacomo Gates, among others. Included in her discography of published work, she has several self-released recordings of original work, including "Five", "The Evolution of Love", and "Boot Cut". She released a jazz album with Chris Leigh and Mike Frishman in 2009, "String Theory", and is currently in the studio recording more original work. Her recently released single "What I Want" is available online. Josi teaches a motivated roster of voice and piano students at String Theory School of Music in Niantic, CT, and performs jazz, rock, soul, and original music with various projects in the region.
