Lisa Dudley

Genre: Americana
Secondary Genre: Folk Tivoli, NY, New York USA Contact

It's "spirit country"-- folk music with a bluegrass beat. Lovely and uptempo, these songs matter and they feel good. People cry (yes, even big strong men) and they melt when Lisa Dudley sings "her amazing ballads in that incredible voice." Angel songs, soldier songs, even a heart transplant song!

Artist Information

Biography

Lisa Dudley has a passionate following of soldiers and veterans. Her latest album, Broken Purple Heart -- Lisa Dudley Live, is a live recording from last year's Concert for Veterans. Lisa sings her most requested songs including Angel on My Shoulder, Twenty-One Guns, Dangerous Curves, and Trail of Tears.

Coming after the release of "Harley Girl" Lisa Dudley solidifies her place in the country/folk-music genre as a singer who touches the heart and helps people feel the emotions they can only barely touch.

Lisa is a healer with a ministry of music. Part Native American (Cherokee and Blackfoot,) she believes she has a calling to write and sing her original songs -- "hauntingly beautiful", socially relevant, and just plain entertaining.

Lisa Dudley is an advocate for veterans. Many of these battered men and women say these songs make them "feel" again. And they cry. And they laugh. And they sing along.

Instrumentation

Lisa Dudley plays rhythm guitar, autoharp, mandolin and some piano. She plays foot-tapping music, in an awesome collection of vintage cowboy boots, accompanied by wonderful friends who join her as the Prairie Dogs or the Panther Mt. Pickers.

More information:

Lisa Dudley is getting airplay all over the world including locations as remote as Uruguay.

Honorary award in Contemporary/Acoustic Folk music category in the Great American songwriting contest for "All is Well." Also a finalist in the Peacedriven songwriting contest for "All is Well."

Broken Purple Heart was released in October 2010 at the Concert for Veterans to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. It includes two songs never released before: Little Bitty Cabin about a place to heal deep in the woods and Broken Purple Heart -- the cover song about a returning soldier who discovers courtroom "combat" is worse than what he faced at war.

Harley Girl was released October 2008. It's a break out album for Lisa because these are the songs she has always wanted to record. "Dangerous Curves" celebrates her luscious body and her softness. "You are Forgiven" forgives her father for divorcing her mother -- an awesome song with a powerful ending (no spoiler here!). The song "Harley Girl" was given to her in a dream by a recently departed friend who died at a Harley Rally.

"Angels Will Carry You Home" was released in December 2007. This 11 song CD was created with healing in mind. The album is a journey into grief and a joyful resurrection back into the positive (ala Abraham-Hicks) with the final track, "All Is Well" -- completed by a heavenly choir singing backups.

"I Belive in America" was released as a 3 song EP in 2007 to support the 4th anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The album contains the hit song, "Bring "Em Home, Lord" which Lisa Dudley performed in Washington, DC for the Episcopal Peace Witness.

"Angel On My Shoulder" was released in 2006 with 11 songs. It's a niche album of angel songs and country gospel. The title song is very popular among soldiers who say angels brought them safely home from battle. Firefighters and flood survivors also speak fondly of the angels that saved their lives.

"Bring'Em Home Lord" played for 5 weeks on WSIX Country radio, Nashville on the Sunday morning Country Spirit radio show. They got lots and lots of letters and requests.

"Use Me In A Mighty Way" is being playing on Spirit Radio. "Angel On My Shoulder" is being played on Desert Radio and radio stations in Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and France.

Christian stations in the Phoenix Arizona area are playing songs from "Angel On My Shoulder and so is "the Sound of Life" radio network. Also satellite XM radio is playing "Trucker Angels" nationwide. "Bring 'em Home Lord" went national on satellite XM radio also.

"I Am My Mother's Daughter" was released nationally on Bliss Entertainment's Mother's Day album of 2006.

"What Mother's Son" was released by chain letter before the war when Lisa's website was getting 2500 hits a day. After the war began we stopped promoting this song and we now support our troops with patriotic songs.

"Twenty-One Guns" ran for a while on the truckers network nationwide. It has been re-released on the 3song EP "I Believe in America."

Many of Lisa's songs are linked to important websites like the Utne Reader, Code Pink, The Patriot's site (for "I Believe in America"). None of these songs are particularly political, they are just passionate.

Setlist

We don't do any covers. I have so many incredible songs and do so many requests that it isn't possible (we wouldn't want the fans to riot!). We can perform for 3 hours (and we have) but a typical set list, since releasing Harley Girl is:

1. Buford's Heart -- an uptempo song celebrating a shy woman who receive's a heart transplant and becomes a party girl.

2. Angel on my Shoulder -- a "hauntingly beautiful song we wrote for Harry's son honoring his mother who died in childbirth."

3. Dangerous Curves -- "a slightly naughty song (not really) about my magnificent and bodacious body. People come just to hear this song. If it's not an appropriate venue for this song I will substitute with "Body By God" -- about my magnificent and bodacious body!"

4. Twenty-One Guns -- "a song that celebrates and honors a fallen soldier (I lost three close friends last summer) and his commitment to his country."

5. Harley Girl -- a biker chick invites you to ride with her. This song was given to me in a dream by a friend who died at a Harley Davidson rally.

6. God Danced -- a foot stomping song (in her awesome collection of vintage cowboy boots - mens size 9EE -- Lisa Dudley is big and bold!)

7. Fingerprints -- a bluegrass song about a potter who leaves "fingerprints on my heart" -- very requested.

8. You are Forgiven -- about a "grown up" who finally forgives her father for divorcing her mother.

9. Trail of Tears -- an astonishingly moving song about a Cherokee woman ("my mother's great grandmother") who is forced by the soldiers to walk to Oklahoma -- this song is show stopper.
OR I may do "Little Crow" -- a song that rhymes all the indian nations.

10. Bring 'Em Home, Lord -- "we always encore with this song because we want people to get home safely but it also has the double meaning of bringing our troops home safe and sound. This song was written for the miners but it has taken on a life of its own."
