Biography

Dynamic songwriter and performer, Jen Ambrose expresses unabashed soul and emotion throughout the tapestry of her original music. A prolific songwriter with over 4 hours of regularly performed original music, Jen bridges genres spanning from Americana to folk, blues to jazz, rock to country to world music. Her undeniable songwriting diversity reveals a subtle ear and skillful musicianship that is intrinsic to her artistry. Jen’s music evokes elements of both enchantment and rootsyness. The penetrating poetry of her lyrics is mirrored by a vocal agility that dances from melodic and subtle to deep and gritty with seamless versatility that dives into the heart of the listener.

A frequent performer throughout the Northwest, Jen is seen in a diversity of settings ranging from mainstage stage performer at the Seattle Hempfest with her band to opening for a number of well-known artists including hip-hop musician Michael Franti & Spearhead and reggae musicians Pablo Moses and The Norma Frazier Band. As a repeat performer at The Rogue Theatre in Grants Pass, OR, Jen Ambrose has opened for musical virtuosity Jackie Greene, Colin Hay (of 80’s band Men at Work) and for 60’s folk/rock legend Donovan .

Jen accompanies herself with an acoustic guitar style that ranges from driving rhythms to intricate finger and flat-picking, or with percussive djembe, or a cappella. Musical influences have included the old Delta Blues styles of the early 20th century, swing Jazz of the 30’s, classic rock of the late 60’s, Middle Eastern and Indian singing. A multifaceted exploration of musical styles reveals a high level of seasoned musicianship that is at the essence of a unique, signature sound that Jen Ambrose cultivates in her original music.

In addition to her solo performances, Jen is accompanied by the Jen Ambrose Band. The Jen Ambrose Band brings together some of the most talented musicians from Southern Oregon to create a diverse and moving show.
Abe Perea, brings his “emotion of sound” as drummer, percussionist and vocalist with influences ranging from Latin music at his Father’s home in Colombia to swing jazz and progressive rock.
Born in London, England, bass guitarist Richard Cole made his way to the US with Stones producer Jimmy Miller while touring with The Mannish Boys, then playing in the Boston and LA music scenes until landing in Oregon.
Lead guitarist and songwriter Rob Gunderson has performed primarily as a blues guitarist and opened for Roy Rogers, Roomful of Blues, Curtis Selgado, Paul Delay and Robin Ford.
Andy Pimentel is an accomplished keyboard, woodwind and guitar player who has played with such notable musicians as Chuck Berry, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Mark Ford.

The Jen Ambrose Band also morphs into the classic rock cover band - The Rock Project. Jen is the lead singer and also plays flute, percussion, acoustic and electric guitar. The Rock Project repretoir includes unusual covers of Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull (Jen plays a mean Ian Anderson flute) and more rocking classics.

Jen Ambrose is also performing with the variety show Sound Stage Review involving a number of talented performers that create shows covering a range of material from classic country to soul, early rock and roll to contemporary pop.

With the release of her first, self-produced CD, “Nectar Of Your Dreams”, Jen involves a number of talented musicians to create a diverse and compelling body of work that has been called visionary, passionate, sultry and mystical. Her single Damian Nightstar is heard on the 2003 Oasis Blues Sampler. Various tracks have received airplay on Southern Oregon Public Radio, local radio stations in Southern Oregon and Northern California, British Columbia and as far away as the Netherlands.

Her second CD, “nonconfusion”, was just released at the end of 2006. It is a collaboration of original songs with other members of the jazz-fusion band nonconfusion.

Jen's third, all original CD - REMEMBERING - was released in 2008.

Setlist

Typical set list consists of original acoustic material. Sets ranges from 45 min. - 2 hours depending on the venue. When performing solo, I usually perform for three hours. With a band it's four.
