Biography

We are Open Wide Music. We are what you love about music. We focus on the sounds of classic rock & roll, but we draw inspiration from many genres of music. With each member bringing different styles to the table, the music that comes out is original, interesting, and good. That's already a few steps up from many of today's bands that are a product of musical inbreeding (e.g., 4 guys that totally love and want to sound like - or worse - BE Creed).

And on top of that, the members of Open Wide Music come from across Canada. From Regina, SK, Chris Munro (guitar & vocals) brings his taste for Classic Rock and Americana like The Black Crowes, and Pearl Jam. From Fredericton, NB, James Lockhart (vocals, keyboard & guitar) likes the Alternative music like Radiohead, but also a little Sinatra. From Tweed, ON, Matt “Tweed” Jones (drums) brings in a country flavour like Willie Nelson or a little more rock like The Band. And from Simcoe, ON, Andy Wright (bass) brings his love of 80's rock like Van Halen and The Police.

We met each other in 1999 while attending Harris Institute in Toronto, where we studied music production. We formed as a band in 2001 and spent the first 2 years living in a small apartment in downtown Toronto, where we continuously wrote, recorded, and perfected our songs. Open Wide Music released their debut album, Versi¨un 01 in 2004. We recorded, mixed, and produced it ourselves (because that's what we went to school for.) This first album also includes many guest performances by friends and mentors we met while in school.

In 2006, recording sessions occurred in the home of Chris and Tweed (and, at that time, Sean Coleman who played bass with OWM 2005 - 2007). Out of that came the latest release, "Anthropic", a stellar 5-song EP. Another EP is due soon for those recordings, but, sadly, all members of OWM have to work day jobs, so it's hard to find mixing time. Instead, we play. We love to play and we play a lot. Down in Chris & Tweed's basement, we are always writing and always working on new songs. We always play something new at every show and we could probably fill another EP right now with new tunes.

Open Wide Music has definitely got the goods - and lots of good goods at that. If we had someone out there selling it and booking shows for us, we'd be all set!

We also love to play live! And we don't do it very often, so when it happens, be sure you're there!

  Open Wide Music has embraced a multi-genre performance for their debut album. The band crosses from...Open Wide Music has embraced a multi-genre performance for their debut album. The band crosses from blues to country to gospel, from rock to folk to alternative rock flawlessly. As the CD progresses, the musicians consistently demonstrate their ability to put together a complete package which even the most skeptical music critic would enjoy. Written and produced by themselves, this independent band is sure to attract a lot of attention with the right promotion. The homegrown project allowed the artists to put forth dynamic performances, giving light to their intense influence on the album.
  
  There is a strong presence of varied instruments and often the band breaks into elaborate instrumental breaks. 7 guest artists appear on the album too is a strong indication of band's ability to put forth a solid album.
  
  With the right promotion, this band will surely become popular on many Canadian stations and quite possibly internationally as well. There are several tracks on this CD I have enjoyed hearing again and again and again. The more I hear some of these tracks, the more I want to hear them again. Honourable mention to tracks I especially like are Lost, Godzilla vs. My Guitar, Chromatic Blues (I'm Alright), You Know Me, Uncle Bob's, Running, Trippy Song and the secret track at the end of the CD.
