What? As fresh and as clean as your soap dish, The Ivorys from Chicago, IL harness the love of classic rock but with a new spin. Through influences ranging from The Stooges and The Rolling Stones, to The Strokes, The White Stripes, and Arctic Monkeys; there is no doubt that this power trio has developed a retro but catchy sound that is sure to enrapture your interest in more ways than one.

“Piece of Mind” is a sure standout track on the new recordings by the band with new member Neil Candelora. “Piece of Mind” showcases some of the bands best work in the raw, herky-jerky rocker. Be sure to see the band perform to get the full idea of what the band is all about- energetic, and fun rock ‘n’ roll that you are not afraid to sing along to.

Who? The Ivorys are longtime friends. Brendan Lazar (Drums/Percussion/Vocals) has known Sam White (Bass Guitar/Lead Vocals) since they were wee young in kindergarten. The Ivorys officially formed when Lazar met Robert Thomas in high school on Chicago’s near south side in 2003. In December of 2009, Neil Candelora took over the Guitar and Vocal duties while sharing writing credits.
The three grouped together in Lazar’s basement to write and rehearse all of their material. Soon enough, their first self titled EP sprouted from the dust, the gigs were forming, and The Ivorys were well on their way to a fast following in Chicago through opening for bands such as The Redwalls, Mondo Diao, and Badfish to name a few. They soon fell under the wing of Chicago music producer, Ira Antelis where the band still records all of their material at his downtown recording studio. The band recently signed to Rodney Jerkins and Ira Antelis’s Media Label, Artists and Brands. (www.artistsandbrands.com)

• Showcased for Music Dealer’s at SXSW 2009
• Performed at notable venues in Chicago like Metro (headlined twice), House of Blues (supporting Badfish and The Redwalls), Double Door (supporting Mondo Diao), Beat Kitchen (supporting The Hard Lessons and Monty Are I), Subterranean (supporting Locksley), and Bottom Lounge among others.

2012 news:

Four of The Ivorys' songs are being licensed by MTV for "The Real World" as well as for Oxygen's, "Bad Girls."

The band was recently showcased and discussed on ABC for a segment on Artists and Brands, the bands' label run by Ira Antelis (wrote "I'm Lovin' It and Be Like Mike") and two time Grammy nominated producer, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins (Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson).

  Getting booked in Chicago bars can be a struggle for local bands, especially if everyone in the group is underage.
  
  "They'll ask us, 'Are you sure you're serious (about being in a band)?'," said Brendan Peleo-Lazar, drummer for The Ivorys.
  
  Although the age factor has occasionally drawn skepticism from some talent bookers, Peleo-Lazar said, the local trio - all 18-year-old high-school seniors - has landed its fair share of stage time at the Empty Bottle, Subterranean and other bars.
  
  "Once the venues hear a few of our songs, they realize we've put some time into our music," Peleo-Lazar said, speaking of his band mates Rob Thomas and Sam White.
  
  A recent resurgence of talented young bands in the music industry also has helped the group. Peleo-Lazar credits bands such as the Arctic Monkeys, Panic! at the Disco, and Chicago's Fall Out Boy with causing record companies and concert promoters to pay closer attention to young acts.
  
  "Media has changed in recent years," he said. "The focus has really shifted in our favor."
  
  The Ivorys' have recorded a self-titled, six-song EP and are currently trying to nail down more Chicago gigs.

  The Ivory's are a hot new band with a sound that definitely has it going on, and that isn't like to ...The Ivory's are a hot new band with a sound that definitely has it going on, and that isn't like to change soon. There is an aspect that is somewhat familiar but definitely fresh.
  
  The overall tone and driving force of the track "Can't Stop" is punctuated by a memorable chorus and memorable guitar and bass riffs, not to mention the infectious vocals.

  We're in a retro fram of mind -- and please, keep in mind retro really does now include anything older than 5 years at this point -- so we're also going to check out The Ivorys at Beat Kitchen tomorrow night. Hit up their MySpace page for a taste of their basic power trio tunes, but avoid the video they shot since it supports their weakest song. At their best they churn out playful blues based rock and/or roll, but things can slide a tad downhill when their singer attempts to emote. Keep is simple, folks.
