"Fierce!"

"Fierce Dance and Spanish Guitar." L.A. Weekly - L.A. Weekly

"A Beautiful and Unique Sound"

"A beautiful and unique sound. Their musical influences are world wide, and they combine them masterfully, making them seem like they were made for each other."
- Latin Style Magazine

"It doesn't get much better than Mojacar."

Mojcar was great! From the first song they had the audience in their grip. Stephen Dick is one of the best guitarists that I have ever seen. He owns that instrument and it sings for him in every key, note, and beat and chord that he plays.
Fernando is a master of percussion. He and Katerina kept the beat going, weaving a tapestry of percussion. Katerina is a great dancer. She mesmerized the audience with her dancing. her movements were powerful, seductive, flowing, exciting, dramatic, passionate, beautiful, fanciful... in other words she was fabulous and we loved her.
I have to say that it doesn't get much better than Mojcar.
- John Hornbacher, Hornbacher Concert Series

"Exceptional"

Mojácar was of exceptional talent. - Lisa C. Walker, Atlanta Jazz Festival

"A Total Success!"

The concert was a sell-out and a total success. The students and community patrons were all very impressed. - Lawrence Green, BYU

"Flamenco Flare"

Mojácar is more than just straight-up traditional flamenco music. They naturally blend in a hearty dose of contemporary Latin Jazz stylings as well. The group is led by guitarist Stephen Dick and dancer Katerina Tomás. Both have studied far and abroad with various teachers to earn their Flamenco credentials. In fact, the name "Mojácar" is the name of a village in Spain on the Mediterranean coast where they were on an artists' retreat and decided form the group. They are also supported by Johnny Sandoval (Primarily on the cajón) and Paulo Gustavo on the electric bass. Another key proponent of the group sound and performance is the dancing. Not only for the visual effect but for the added percussion elements as well.

On the recordings featured, the instrumental flare is full and present. Stephen Dick's guitar is front and center casually weaving from the discipline of Flamenco into more open Jazzy melodies and improvisation. Like any good musical performance the rhythms ebb and flow with the lead heightening and highlighting the drama and tension. As the title "Fastango" suggests, elements of Tango are presented. "Que Lindo" (That's Pretty) is a more slow, burning piece, full of extend passion And "Rumba Salsera", naturally, leans of salsa and rumba's rhythms within the Flamenco idiom.

Mojácar are able to perform their music in a variety of setting, from flamenco concerts, workshops and lecture-demonstrations, bringing the power and passion of flamenco to all audiences. But just the same, their music in your own personal listening environment will sound great as well!

Bio

Mojcar Flamenco began in 1996 at an artists' retreat in Mojcar, a village in southern Spain. There, guitarist composer Stephen Dick wrote a series of pieces blending tradtional flamenco with Latin Jazz.

That music became the core repertoire of Mojcar Flamenco. Since then, Stephen and the band have taken that music across the U.S. and Canada and back to Spain.

Meanwhile, Stephen has received multiple awards from the Spanish Ministry of Culture for his innovative music as well as an L.A. Treasures award and has appeared on Spanish television.

Mojcar Flamenco features Stephen on guitar, accompanied by some of the best flamenco musicians in Southern California. Mojcar also features flamenco dancer Katerina Toms whose fierce footwork percussion drives Mojcar's powerful rhythms.
