Biography

Kathleen is a Californian/Londoner singer/songwriter/ political activist who divides her time between the puddles of southeast London and a MoHo (motorhome) in a Malibu canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains above Ventura County Line.
She has released 2 albums to date on Howlin’ Hound Records. Into The Deep and the most recent Don’t Tell (produced by Chuck Prophet and Simon Alpin) on Nine Mile Records in the USA.
Kathleen woke up and smelled the coffee at an early age and found her family tree included a Mexican folk hero and a visionary Irishman who was a foot soldier in the American labor movement. A political activist since her teenage years in California, she worked for Tom Hayden's Campaign for Economic Democracy. In September 2002 Kathleen joined the STOP THE WAR campaign and was one of over 100 prominent UK writers, musicians, artists and actors signing an open letter to prime minister Tony Blair urging the British government to oppose US plans to invade Iraq.
In 2006 Kathleen had the honor of singing backing vocals as integral part of the choir on Neil Young’s album Living With War.
Kathleen`s lyrics have deep connections with the latent sexual and emotional paradoxes all around us and the lateral insight to pluck the beauty out of the banal. Relationship dynamics are turned inside out, meanings spun on their head, decoded and given resonance. Roaring yet fragile, her songs bristle with biting wit and hard earned wisdom.
Kathleen was signed to Bug Music (publishing wise) upon the release of her first album . Her songwriting collaborators include Chuck Prophet, Eric Lowen & Dan Navarro (The Bangles, Pat Benetar, The Temptations, The Four Tops), Stacey Earle, Sandy Stewart (Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, Belinda Carlisle, Bow Wow Wow) & Steve Booker (Duffy).
Her cuts include a song on Stacey Earle's debut album, Simple Gearle. The song 'Losers Weep', features Steve Earle on backing vocals. There's also 'My Own Way Of Doin' Things' on Lowen & Navarro’s, Scratch at the Door.
Solo acoustic or with her band the HoundKats Kathleen is a firm favourite at small, boutique US/UK/European festivals including BuFest, Edinburgh Fringe, Folk Alliance, SXSW, Durango, Texas rock Fest, Queille & Glastonbury . She has tuned up, supported & asked for more guitar in the monitor with Chuck Prophet, Stacey Earle & Mark Stuart, Steve Earle, Jim White, Lowen & Navarro, David Poe, Ed Harcourt, Suzy Boguss, Tom Freund, David Lindley, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Renbourn, The Tiny, Jeffrey Foucault, Clyde Stubblefield, Nick Harper, Glen Tilbrook, Carrie Newcomer, Robyn Hitchcock and Siyaya.
