Biography

"My Not-So-Silent Movie," is the opposite of a morality tale. Life is not neatly tied up. Sin does not exist but consequences do and ambiguities persist. Our music incorporates those ideas with Rock and Soul: high-arcing vocals, powerful guitars and a danceable rhythm.

When writing this record I was concerned that the songs might not work together on one record. The concept of collecting them in a soundtrack gave me freedom to write any way I wished. At some point the songs stopped flowing so easily. I bought a few books on screenwriting and wrote scenes to inspire the rest of the music. This was important because it forced me to keep continuity.

Other Influences:
I trained in the arts as a painter and apply techniques of layers and colors to music and records. My favorite visual artist is Rembrandt: stunning beauty created with limited resources. Work as a stained-glass glazier was also an influence: interplay of color and light, expensive penalties for mistakes and a chance to bleed if careless. I visualize harmonies, scenes and timbres of sound. Teaching "at-risk" young people for several years was an amazing experience that informs many of the characters in my stories.

Description of Approach:
I am primarily a storyteller and fortunate to play with such accomplished musicians. The songs sound straight forward on the surface, but require some skill to perform. Like a good painting, there should be details to discover without losing site of the main idea. I strive to bring a pop/rock record to a literary level without pretension or losing the primal groove-up. The music should stand on its own, a foundation for the entertainment and visual experience as a whole.
