Biography

Scrote: about

Scrote is an innovative performer/producer from Los Angeles.  In addition to his LA-based work, he also consistently works in San Francisco, Austin, New York, Berlin, and many places in between and beyond.  He has performed across the US, Germany, Egypt, Holland, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, France, Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, and Monaco.??

His latest release, “Pompadour” gives rise to more inky realms of our human psyche on less starless nights.  The new recordings deliver inspired tracks with long associated studio & recording session players.  Contemporary art is a known aspect that underlines Scrote's album concepts;  The 2010 CD displays a cover image by renown modern artist John Baldessari while Pompadour unveils original art from medical patent illustrator/painter Tom Giesler.  The title for his new release was selected from Facebook fan submissions in response to the cover & the lyrical concept about death, dying, murder,  a womanly grim reaper, paranoia, isolation and manic depression - a real chipper collection!

??Pre-release of Pompadour will be available at shows beginning in Houston on 2/17 with official online release on March 1st.

He recently finished producing 2x Grammy winner Bubba Hernandez's upcoming release, two albums for the new band The Stripminers featuring Brett Anderson of The Donnas & Paul Stinson of The Radishes, and an acclaimed new record from Brooklyn singer Will Scott. He has also produced, performed, and/or recorded with: Daniel Johnston, The Radishes, Brandi Shearer, Puscifer (featuring Maynard from Tool), Holly Palmer (David Bowie), Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu), DJ Bonebake (X), Paul Barker (Ministry), Rey Washam (Steve Albini), Fred Frith, producer Ron Nevison (Led Zeppelin, The Babys), The Section Quartet (Silversun Pickups, Sean Lennon), Carla Kihlstedt (Tin Hat, Tom Waits), producer/mixer Karl Derfler (No Doubt, Smashmouth), producer Mark Batson (Seal, India Arie), Warp Tour Artist Cottonmouth TX, Myles Boisen (Tom Waits), producer Rob Shrock (Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick), Mike Dillon (Les Claypool, Ani Difranco), David Garza, Paul Chesne, A-list engineer/mixer Mark Needham, Grammy winning engineer Seth Horan, The Billy Nayer Show, and countless others...

Discography

Pompadour (2012)
Written following the 2011- 8 cities/8 drummers tour, Scrote's new EP, in his own words, “is a bonafide barn burner”, featuring dazzling talent from sax impresario Ron Dziubla (Jarvis Cocker, Nikka Costa), bassist Brett Simons (Fiona Apple, Chocolate Genius), bassist Tim Lefebvre (Elvis Costello, Nick Cave), and drummer Blair Sinta (Damien Rice, The Submarines).

Scrote (2010)
Scrote’s self-titled debut solo album was released with musical influences running the gamut of his musical pursuits as mirrored in the other artists he's worked with - sometimes noisy, or melodic, sometimes ambient, or otherworldly, or just simply straight up rockin'. Recorded in Los Angeles and includes bassist Brett Simons (Fiona Apple, Chocolate Genius) and drummer Kevin Stevens (Neon Neon) with special guests, including David Bowie guitarist/collaborator Reeves Gabrels, legendary MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, The Donnas' singer Brett Anderson, Foo Fighter keyboardist Rami Jaffee, and Les Claypool percussionist Mike Dillon.
