Determination is defined in Webster dictionary as "the act of deciding definitely and firmly"
Elizebeth Mendez defines determination.

Elizabeth A. Quinones, (a.k.a. Elizabeth Mendez) is a daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants and a proud Latina sister, who joined the United States Marine Corps in 2002, so she could make a difference in the world. She began her mission to make a difference in 2001 when she volunteered three months of her time through the Red Cross as a volunteer to assist the NYC Policemen and Firefighters at Ground Zero. In 2002, Elizabeth also volunteered her time at some of the New York City shelters and there she helped out with clothing, food and provided just a shoulder to lean on to people who needed support.
Her career as a popular singer was launched when she belted out her heart felt and amazing rendition of the "National Anthem", at Madison Square Garden before a highly anticipated fight between Felix Trinidad and Ricardo Mayorga ("A Don King Production")
Elizabeth's resume reflects a roster of who's who! To date she has performed with and sang background for a plethora of some of Vibe's and Billboard's hottest acts today....Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Marc Anthony just to name a few. In addition to singing, Elizabeth has also made acting appearances on the television shows Third Watch, Law & Order and Sex In The City.
"It's not just a wealth of musical styles and her expressive voice that has made Elizabeth such a fine artist."
Continually striving to make significant contributions in the world, she coordinates support for the nations Largest Toys for Tots program (toysfortots.org) where she has had an immediate and lasting positive effect on underprivileged youths across all communities.
In 2006, Elizabeth performed for the September Concert Foundation (septemberconcert.org) which was created in April, 2002 for the sole purpose of organizing an annual citywide music festival in New York, in remembrance of September 11th and a celebration of our universal humanity. This year Elizabeth sang from the front steps of the New York Library for their first public concert held on the steps and at the United Nations were she launched and sang her original piece "United". She also performed at Saint Patrick's Cathedral were she sang a beautiful rendition of a Wonderful World.
Continuing to spread the word, Elizabeth sang her single "United" at the Veterans Breakfast Reception on Veterans Day held at Gracie Mansion. As soon as she belted out "United we stand, If we're divided we'll fall" the audience was speechless. "What a gift and what a song" you heard from the audience.
Please keep your eyes and ears open for Elizabeth as she will be promoting her first single "United" in 2007.

The United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program officially kicked off with the 2006 National Toys for Tots Campaign Kickoff Luncheon Friday at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Hotel in Alexandria.
Toys for Tots Foundation staff, representatives from 50 top Toys for Tots sponsors, and Marines associated with this year’s campaign came together to celebrate the start of the 59th year of one of the nation’s most widely recognized holiday charitable causes.
‘‘The reasons for why Toys for Tots is such a success is very simple,” said retired Lt. Gen. Matthew T. Cooper, president and chief executive officer of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. ‘‘First, Toys for Tots is about children; and second, Toys for Tots is patriotic, and everyone loves Marines. The bottom line is Toys for Tots is positive, uplifting, and it shows the true meaning of Christmas – giving, rather than receiving.”
Cooper also noted that the success of the Toys for Tots Program would not be possible without the monetary support of its sponsors, such as Humana Military Healthcare Services, Quantum, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman Corporation, to name just a few.
After colors were retired, the invocation was delivered, and lunch was served, Cooper addressed the crowd.
‘‘In 2005, a year plagued by natural disasters, we were afraid by the time Toys for Tots came along America would be tapped out financially and would not be able to give to the campaign,” he said. ‘‘But our fears were soon washed away. The reality is America will not let Toys for Tots fail.”
Last year, Toys for Tots equaled the previous record-setting campaign in number of children reached and ranked second in number of toys distributed.
‘‘And this year we are off to a great start,” Cooper said as he told of the millions of dollars already donated to the 2006 campaign.
Retired Gen. Carl E. Mundy Jr., the keynote speaker, spoke to the guests of the Corps’ reputation.
‘‘Being the foremost fighting force in the world and the individual acts of valor by Marines are not the only reasons Americans hold our Corps in such affection and high esteem,” Mundy said. ‘‘Marines are known for ‘taking care of our own,’ but to the broad American public we are known also for taking care of others.
‘‘Indeed, it’s a fact that if you totaled all of the other philanthropic outreach programs by each of the other Armed Services of our country and bundled them together, they would not approach the outreach of our small but big-hearted Marine Corps.”
After Mundy’s uplifting speech about the Corps, the Toys for Tots Foundation, and the Toys for Tots campaign, Cpl. Elizabeth A. Quinones, a Reserve Marine, preformed a selection of holiday tunes.
Following sponsor recognitions, Joe Burden, singer and musician, performed a song he wrote about Toys for Tots titled ‘‘Semper Fi to the Children.”
In 2005, the Toys for Tots Program collected and distributed 19 million toys, and it plans to collect even more this year
