Biography

Simple Life recording artist Dre Young is heavily exhaling a breath of fresh air onto the stagnant Indianapolis hip-hop scene. His arsenal of quick-witted, entertaining rhymes coupled with a smooth delivery over animated beats draws more fans each day. Ignoring criticism that the Midwest lacks a distinct lyrical identity, Dre Young continues to stun crowds with his collection of versatile styles, from pop-rap to club bangers.

His most recent production “Dre Day Err Day” is a mixtape compilation of free-flowing verses executed above an intoxicating blend of experimental hip hop, old school funk, and Midwest bounce. On this LP clever and comical rhymes are juxtaposed against more mature presentations of life as Dre Young describes it. Available now, “Dre Day Err Day” pushes Dre's production and lyrical prowess to the next level and announces the secret to unlocking Naptown’s rap game is Dre Young.

  "Day in and night I am constantly thinking how to make this one of the best sounds you ever heard come out of Indiana . . . well, besides Michael Jackson."
  
  Dre Young is a local rapper who has been a part of the Indy scene from a young age. "I've been involved with music for about ten years, since 1996. At that point in time, I was in middle school going to after-school dances and listening to the music that got all the parties started. That sort of motivated me to want to have people dancing and partying to my music, so I formed a small group of people to start a music group."
  
  Describing his music as his own motivational perception of life, Dre keeps his eyes and ears open for influences. "It’s something that is fresh, new, and funkadelic. I could say that my sound is the black sheep of the music industry. I am motivated by all artists around the globe; however, I focus on maintaining my individuality and originality with conceptual lyrics over infectious experimental beats.”
  
  Young is currently recording on his full-length album, and he's working with some of Indiana’s finest. "The story behind my last song ('Struggle') is about my daily struggle in life and how I have to keep pushing myself forward during hard times. While I was writing this song, at that point in time in my life, it seemed like everything was just crumbling down. I wanted to make a song that kept me motivated and kept me pushing and I knew if I talked about my hard times, then other people could relate to me and understand what I mean." "Young is already gaining national recognition, having just recently performed at Birdy’s as part of The Hype Magazine’s Open-Mic Artist Showcase. While working on his album he is promoting his mixtape "Key to the City," available via Simple Life Records. "The story that I want to tell with my music is that all you have to do is believe in something and go with it. I believed in myself so I’m going to tell you everything I go through with my music. There is a different story behind every track that we do. Every CD is like a novel of its own, talking about reality, life, money, surviving ups and downs. I think the real story that we tell is just do everything to your best and live life, don’t let the times bring you down."
