Born in the spring of 1997 in Ottawa, Canada, LOVENBODYPARTS has become the city’s leading Rocktronica act, proof of which is shown by a strong following of loyal and devoted fans. The band was conceived when singer/guitar player, Radji Millette (aka Starlovin), merged with recording engineer, Sean Hart, and together they began to manifest their own stylistic blend of rock and electronica (Rocktronica).
The first line-up, LOVENBODYPARTS (Version 1.0), fused the sound of their most prominent electronica influences including Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Nine Inch Nails with smooth, melodic vocals, heavy guitars, and dirty synths layered over drum loops and drum machines. Since their first live performance in 1997, both Sean and Radji dedicated themselves to perfecting their unique sound in the studio and their on-stage presence as a band.
LOVENBODYPARTS released their first EP, “FLEX”, in June of 2002, which featured three original songs, as well as two remixes (devised and crafted by local DJ legends Brad Copeland and Andrew Matsubara (DJ K). In order to promote and support this first effort, LOVENBODYPARTS played extensively to packed houses in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto; during this time, the band was successful in selling hundreds of CDs, as well as establishing a solid fan-base.
In 2006, Sean and Radji agreed that their musical direction should evolve and shifted their focus towards creating a more rock-oriented approach, both stylistically and musically. To bring this preconceived notion to fruition, drummer Jack MacGregor (of Spread) and bassist Patrick Groulx (of Fleshpaint), joined the band to form the current, four-piece ensemble, LOVENBODYPARTS (Version 2.0).
As the newly cultivated band formed and developed their innovative sound, LOVENBODYPARTS spent countless hours modifying and reverse-engineering their past digital sound into one with a more raw and organic edge. Although the band has shed a lot of its techno/jungle tactics, their form of futuristic rock still captures the electronic flavour through dynamic loops and samples. When attempting to dissect the current musical anatomy of LOVENBODYPARTS, bands such as Muse, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails come to mind – a new era for the band and for their fans.
On February 25, 2012, LOVENBODYPARTS released their newest effort, a self-titled EP, readily available at their live shows, as well as to anyone who has access to the Internet. The band’s main focus today is on continued growth, individually and as a group, and to stretch their boundaries, aiming to play shows across the country, the continent and perhaps even the world – “Being on stage and rocking out to an awesome crowd is what we love and do best…” – Radji Millette
