The WarBrides have been writing, producing and recording Alternative and Alt-Americanna music in the Chicago area for the past several years. The band is comprised of 5 veterans of the local rock and Alternative scene, and is fronted by P.O. Raney. We try to bring our eccentric view and social leanings to every show and every piece of music we perform.

An Album Worth Hearing

Social commentary is sprinkled throughout, especially on the scornful, angry “Piss on the Democrats” (which appears to address how both political parties tend to neglect the common man). But the band seems more concerned with the broader issues we adults face as we grow older. Singer P.O. Raney has a nasal and slurring voice, but it’s also enjoyably soulful and bluesy in a Joe Cocker-like way. The big-sounding, slickly produced anthems and quieter ballads bring to mind artists like John Cougar, Neil Young, or Bruce Springsteen. Overall, the spirited playing and intelligent, sincere lyrics make this an album worth hearing.”

The WarBrides bastardize their genre in a manner reminiscent of Lambchops’ adaptation of cabaret. Take, for example, the quirky “Just Friends”. With its breezy, naïve progression and erratic vocals, this is a perfect example of why the WarBrides are exponentially more creative than a slew of other independent acts.”
