In 2007 Deb Seitz and the Swank Daddys competed in the world’s largest gathering of blues bands on fabled Beale Street. Deb's has broadened her musical horizons since Beale Street.
· Her current band, the Deb Seitz Band, features “Hollywood” Johnny Cosgrove, Frank Anastos, Mike Bailey and Dan Wile
· 2004 - Seitz & Soundz, acoustic duet with guitarist Frank Anastos
· 2004 - Swank Daddys (featuring Kenny Kinsey, Jerry Porter and Nick Byrd)
· 2002 - Chicago Blues Posse (featuring “Hollywood” Johnny Cosgrove, Mike Bailey, Bob Mandarino)
Seitz’ enthusiasm for the blues is positively infectious and tells us that she is encouraged by the talent that surrounds her as well as the many blueswomen who have inspired her for nearly three decades.
“Growing up, I listened to Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Carole King; and Bonnie Raitt has always moved me,” said Deb. “Susan Tedeschi and Janis Joplin showed me new possibilities, but these days, it's that “get down ‘n’ tell it like it is’ attitudes of Etta James, Koko Taylor, Irma Thomas, and Denise LaSalle that hit me where it counts.”
With a strong foundation in the blues, Deb’s repertoire includes songs from Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, and Koko Taylor. Seitz is also inspired by Janis Joplin: she won the “Janis Joplin Memorial Singoff” in 2002, and in 2003 was named Best Unsigned Vocalist at Chicago’s House of Blues. Deb’s forceful delivery of Koko Taylor’s “Voodoo Woman” leaves you wanting more.
“I like to give audiences what they want,” continued Seitz. “You’ll hear Muddy Waters, BB King and Lazy Lester at my shows, but you’ll also get Tracy Chapman or John Prine through blues-tinted glasses.”
Seitz’ solo CDs, Another Promise and Soul Stirring, have landed on playlists from Atlanta to Indianapolis and Chicago; from Bloomington-Normal to her native Montana. They are available on Deb's website, www.debseitz.com; www.cdbaby.com and www.bandvillage.com.

While 2003 was the official Year of the Blues, there were several stellar blues records released 2004, including a concert soundtrack produced by Martin Scorsese. We'll get to that disc in a minute, but first, let's get to my top five blues releases for Cosmik Blues of the past year.
The usual disclaimer applies: these are my personal favorites and they represent CDs that I play often as it would be impossible for me to catch all of the major label and independent releases from bluesmen and blueswoman across the world. While writing for the crew here at Cosmik is a dream gig, that would be a dream gig, too.
In no particular order, here are my top five blues releases with a few honorable mentions tucked in for good measure. In my dreams, I'd turn back to Charlie Watts or Willie "Big Eyes" Smith and ask for a rimshot...
DEBBIE SEITZ: Soul Stirring (Self-Released)
While my critical judgement may be clouded from having the privilege of hanging out with Debbie Seitz for the first time last year - we saw Mem Shannon and the Membership at Chicago's House of Blues - this self-released CD captures a Chicago area blues diva, I've said it here before, who's ready for the big leagues. Her performing band includes road-tested musicians from the Kinsey Report, and players who've toured with E.C. Scott and Buddy Guy. I particularly like her original "Goin' Somewhere" and her interpretations of Koko Taylor's "Voodoo Woman" and Tom Hambridge's "Rock Me Right." Last month, Soul Stirring made Delta Frank's playlist on his weekend blues show on WGLT-FM, and I hope other NPR affiliates get this CD some well-deserved notice.
OMAR AND THE HOWLERS: Boogie Man (Ruf Records)
CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE: Sanctuary (Backporch/Virgin)
HARRY MANX: Road Ragas Live (Dog My Cat)
DEBORAH COLEMAN: What About Love? (Telarc)

Deb Seitz "Soul Stirrin" (CD Review)

One of the Midwest's leading ladies of the blues, Deb Seitz, has released her new solo CD, "Soul Stirring". As "Blues Is Her Business and Her Business Is Good" this lil' lady really nailed it all on this first solo indie release.
"Soul Stirring" stands up well to the best female vocalists in the Blues Nation. Seitz has performed night club shows and as a feature guest on Sopro's All Star Revues over the past few years, developing a vocal style uniquely her own, which Doody captured here perfectly.
"Deb never has to force her voice to do something that is not natural to her vocal style, because she has a broad range and powerful delivery as anyone who hears this CD will surely attest."

"Being a part of the Chicago blues community is akin to being a part of a large support group, because no matter what situation befalls you, there are musical compadres ready and willing to back you up.
That is the essence of how the Chicago Blues Posse came together four years ago and has endured despite an ever-revolving cast of guest players and official members"...
..."While the musical resume of Lockport, Ill., vocalist Deb Seitz may pale in comparison to those of her bandmates, when she opens up those powerful pipes, it is made perfectly clear that she takes a back seat to nobody."
