In 2007 Deb Seitz and the Swank Daddys competed in the world’s largest gathering of blues bands on fabled Beale Street. Deb's has broadened her musical horizons since Beale Street.
· Her current band, the Deb Seitz Band, features “Hollywood” Johnny Cosgrove, Frank Anastos, Mike Bailey and Dan Wile
· 2004 - Seitz & Soundz, acoustic duet with guitarist Frank Anastos
· 2004 - Swank Daddys (featuring Kenny Kinsey, Jerry Porter and Nick Byrd)
· 2002 - Chicago Blues Posse (featuring “Hollywood” Johnny Cosgrove, Mike Bailey, Bob Mandarino)
Seitz’ enthusiasm for the blues is positively infectious and tells us that she is encouraged by the talent that surrounds her as well as the many blueswomen who have inspired her for nearly three decades.
“Growing up, I listened to Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Carole King; and Bonnie Raitt has always moved me,” said Deb. “Susan Tedeschi and Janis Joplin showed me new possibilities, but these days, it's that “get down ‘n’ tell it like it is’ attitudes of Etta James, Koko Taylor, Irma Thomas, and Denise LaSalle that hit me where it counts.”
With a strong foundation in the blues, Deb’s repertoire includes songs from Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, and Koko Taylor. Seitz is also inspired by Janis Joplin: she won the “Janis Joplin Memorial Singoff” in 2002, and in 2003 was named Best Unsigned Vocalist at Chicago’s House of Blues. Deb’s forceful delivery of Koko Taylor’s “Voodoo Woman” leaves you wanting more.
“I like to give audiences what they want,” continued Seitz. “You’ll hear Muddy Waters, BB King and Lazy Lester at my shows, but you’ll also get Tracy Chapman or John Prine through blues-tinted glasses.”
Seitz’ solo CDs, Another Promise and Soul Stirring, have landed on playlists from Atlanta to Indianapolis and Chicago; from Bloomington-Normal to her native Montana. They are available on Deb's website, www.debseitz.com; www.cdbaby.com and www.bandvillage.com.
